least they could do after how badly they managed his injury.

They managed his career in a shitty manner. Like I said earlier, reminded me of how the Browns handled Couch. You draft your perceived franchise QB #1 overall then dick around putting a competent O-Line in front of him? I've been saying for a while with how the Browns are now set up, talent-wise, if I'm Dorsey I'm using the majority of my picks for O-Line starters, D-Line depth and secondary depth....but the high picks get used to protect Baker.

Yeah Doug Gottlieb can fuck off. I have no idea how anyone listens to that tool.

I have a lot of patience for sports talk personalities.  I even like Gottlieb some of the time.  It's more for the entertainment factor, because he shifts hard from a semi-reasonable take to a WTF statement regularly, but this just sounded stupid, and his attempts to save face and defend his comments since then have been ridiculously poor.

The only thing about this that's pretty dicky on Luck's part is that apparently he's been discussing retirement with the Colts since March. When you start talking about retirement, a lot of times you're already mentally retired...unless you're a drama queen like Roethlisberger. Granted, that should've been a red flag to the Colts to put together a contingency plan.

Yeah, sounds like he's been discussing it with them for awhile and made the official announcement to the team ten days prior.

To assume anything of the sort when talking about any fan base is just plain ignorant, given their (fan bases in general) history. I'm not defending the idiots, just defending the situation, at that specific time. Please be aware of the entire timeline in which this story broke, and don't just take the booing out of context. As Golic, Sr mentioned this morning, most of these people who booed probably felt like idiots once they realized why he was retiring, but the fact remains it was a dick move to do it now. This wasn't a knee jerk reaction to a new injury, it's was something he's been contemplating this for a while. Know the facts before you condemn a fan base (and fwiw, I'm a Browns fan, so I have no love for the Colts whatsoever). Thank you.

Um ... this seems like a pretty visceral defense to a non-emotional, light criticism.

It is indeed a dick move to boo someone who has chosen to retire, particularly when that someone played through a lacerated kidney for your team and likely kept you from a QB revolving door situation after the Manning era ended.  I don't care if he's retiring because he's aspiring to be a cross-dressing burlesque dancer in New Orleans.

If he made the actual decision ten days prior, and doing it now (after preseason, but before regular season play) was a dick move, when would have been better?  There's no "good time" at this point, but it would be equally dickish to expect him to play the season out because he missed some unspoken, subjective window in which it would have somehow been more appropriate.

He has indeed been contemplating it for awhile, but from the sound of it, he let the team know as early as March that he was considering it.  At that point, the onus is on them to put contingencies into place.  They had practically all of free agency (depending on when he told them in March) and the draft to work on it.  They didn't.  Maybe he was waffling on trying to tough out one more year out of a felt obligation or because the team didn't have anything in place, and that's why he didn't decide until now.

But whether he decided to retire today, a few days ago, or a few months ago, you can't blame him for it, given the health issues the average player lives with for the remainder of their career.  It's not like there's anything good about saying, "Ah, nope.  You missed your window.  You are now obligated to play another year and risk more debilitating injuries and long-term health issues.  Otherwise, you're a dick."

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think the only reason Gottlieb's tweet had such a negative response, is because he is a massive douche bag.  If someone else tweeted the same thing, I think most of us would get a chuckle out of it.

92.3 had a beat writer on from Indy this afternoon and the guy thought it was very possible that Luck could come back after a year or two, after his body heals. At 29, he's still pretty young in QB years.

If that's what you want to call a contingency plan.

Possible, but I'll believe it when I see it personally.

I'd say it's a pretty good contingency plan.... he was probably the best backup QB in the league.... and better than some starting QBs. He did decent with a shitty OLine and HC/OC in 2017.

I love everyone giving Gottleib shit dude is terrible and that comment was fucking dumb.

Thing is, I've never thought he was that bad.  I even listen to him on occasion.  Sure, some of his stuff is batshit, but I can't say I agree that this is why people had such a problem with it.

I don't. I may eat my words but the Colts went from a possible 1-3 seed in the playoffs (with Luck) to a team out of the playoffs. He'll keep you afloat, as a QB, but he's not leading them to the playoffs...regardless of how good that supporting cast is.

This doesn’t mean it’s a bad contingency plan. Name a QB they could have had come and be backup that would have them a top 1-3 seed, or even in the playoffs?

I guess this means the end of the Captain Andrew Luck twitter feed.  Whoever did those tweets was pretty damn funny.  I'll miss them.
