Draft and FA approaching a lot quicker this year, since the Browns made it to the Divisional round. Who do you want to see targeted the most?

A few guys I would love for them to go after in no order:

  • LB Jayon Brown
  • LB Matt Milano
  • S Anthony Harris (maybe my top target)
  • EDGE Melvin Ingram (wouldn’t have thought this, but I think they need to replace Vernon after the injury)
  • S Justin Simmons
  • WR Will Fuller (this may be dependent on OBJ, but I think I’d take him regardless)
  • S Marcus Williams
  • CB William Jackson
  • CB Chidobe Awuzie

Curious to see what they do in the secondary. They have a lot of draft capitol invested in Delpit and Greedy. But how much? Enough to say they are the “FA signings in the secondary?” Not a ton of great CB on the market, though S is pretty loaded. If they don’t move off Sendejo I’ll flip a table.

For me, edge rushers starts and ends with Trey Hendrickson (DE-Saints). If he hits the market he'd be the perfect compliment to Myles and fits the mold of a Andrew Berry player. Young (26), highly productive (14.5 sacks) and coming off his rookie deal. Carl Lawson (DE-Bengals) would be my plan B.

Out of players who made meaningful contributions, who do we have who are free agents? I know that Vernon and Higgins are.

Another name to watch is Dalvin Tomlinson (IDL-Giants)

What did JJ Watts advanced numbers look like? He’s obviously declined, but how badly?

No shocker to anyone but Bills fans but Stefanski voted COY.

Unfortunately, Clay Matthews denied Hall of Fame again. He is high on the all-time tackle list, and they didn't use him as a pass rusher until the second half of his career or his sack numbers would be a lot better. This was his last shot as a modern player. Hopefully the senior committee puts him in.

I see CJ McCollum is trying to recruit Richard Sherman to the Browns.

I thought he was used as a pass rusher at the beginning of his career and then Marty, realizing his athleticism, used him in coverage? Even so, it's pretty crappy that he has better numbers than others at his position, by far, and still isn't in.

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but Marty was the DC under Rutigliano. Did Marty use him differently as DC vs. as head coach?

A lot of what Tampa did in the Super Bowl mirrored the defense that the Browns played against the Chiefs. Biggest difference was that TB had a much better pass rush, up front, to harass Mahomes and their DB's didn't give as much cushion.

In this draft/FA I look for Berry to target superfast defenders. There are only really three teams (maybe a fourth in Minnesota) in the league that are heavily focused on the "run first" philosophy being Baltimore, Tennessee and Cleveland. TBH, by the end of the year the Browns had flipped things to where they were passing more than running.

The league is starting to tailor their defenses to faster, smaller athletic guys, willing to take it on the chin against guys like Derrick Henry because there aren't many teams running at that level. They'll take that hit to be better in pass coverage.

This past season, instead of a 4-3, Joe Woods ran more 4-2-5 and 4-1-6 than a base 4-3. That's why I think Andrew Berry doesn't value LB's as much as DB's as a lot of the LB's right now are just glorified safeties in the 215-200 lb range.

Some good DEs that look to be out there, and a few good safeties that are going to be available. Legal tampering period starts on Monday.

Edge rusher should be Berry's #1 priority and, if he's going to make a splash, that's where the money should go. This draft isn't extremely deep at edge rusher but has a bunch of corners & safeties.

Legal tampering period starts tomorrow so we should hear some names associated with the Browns. I think they go hard & aggressive for a DE to pair with Myles.

Would be pleased with Hendrickson, Lawson or Okwara (Detroit), with Okwara perhaps being the cheapest with the most upside. Just no Clowney, PLEASE.

News of teams coming to agreement with FA's should start leaking at a little after 12pm EST today.

In division news, the Rats signed our old buddy Kevin Zeitler to a 3 year deal which will help plug the hole Marshall Yanda left when he retired.

Browns get former Rams safety John Johnson. Good get and highly touted. Go get Carl Lawson or Trey Hendrickson!

John Johnson is quite the get! Looking like EDGE may be a draft acquisition. Would still like to add another CB and LB help.

A little disappointed that they didn't get an edge guy but I also think Berry was prudent in not ponying up the money that some of these guys got. $16.5 m/yr for Bud Dupree? Even Okwara got overpaid by his own team. Also think they will address edge in the draft, even though it's pretty weak at that spot. Still a few guys out there at DE but won't really be an upgrade over what they had in Vernon & Clayborn last year.

Browns are signing Raiders DE Takk McKinley to a 1 year $4 million deal. They put in a waiver claim on him last year when Atlanta released him.
