The original Friday the 13th for the first time in ages, where Kevin Bacon plays a horny kid who gets an arrow through his throat!

While the series is famous for Jason hacking his way through a bunch of annoying dipshits before the least annoying and dipshitty of them kills him until the next sequel is ready, the original was framed as a murder mystery with a killer stalking kids trying to renovate Camp Crystal Lake. Overall, it's a really fun film that kind of gets marred a bit by the ending.

1. It kind of hurts the whole mystery aspect of it when the culprit winds up being a woman who wasn't in the movie until the final 15 minutes or so who was only alluded to in the most vague way possible (a couple characters mention how a child drowned in the lake and then other bad shit happened; the killer is said child's mom).

2. Said killer is obviously pretty strong, able to move corpses from place to place in order to keep anyone from knowing what is going on until it's just the killer and Alice (final girl), as well as being able to throw a dead body through a window. Said killer is also a 55-60 year old woman who might come off as in good shape for her age, but probably not "Jason-strong" to the "pick dude up and stash him in the top bunk of a bed so he's not immediately found" level.

3. Or definitely not "Jason-strong", being what that Alice isn't exactly a powerhouse and she essentially owns her all four times they face off, turning it into something that feels like a running joke when she knocks her out AGAIN and, instead of doing anything to restrain her, just runs off AGAIN. The first three times were Mrs. V charging with a weapon, missing and then getting knocked out by Alice. The fourth time was her missing with her weapon, engaging in a wrestling match, getting shoved off Alice and then getting decapitated with said weapon.

Still a 7/10 and better than virtually all the sequels for about anything other than hilarity.

Friend's dad took us to see like part 4 or 5 in the theatre. Totally inappropriate but hey as kids ya gotta see some hooters!!!

On the way home he was driving down a back road and the car stopped by a woods.  He says he is gonna walk to the nearby house and get help.  He starts walking, doubles back and jumps on the hood and scares the crap outta us!

Will never forget that!

Lol reads exactly like a CNN article. C’mon dude.

Like my dad, you want everything to somehow be brought back to liberal cable news channels.  If someone discussed ice on Neptune, you and QO would somehow be able to tie it to the state of liberal media bias.

My problem with the movie is that it is supposed to serve as a lesson not to make rash judgments about people.  Richard Jewell was the perfect stereotype of the wanna-be-cop security guard who would have loved to become a hero by "discovering" a bomb he planted.  But as the film clearly shows how horrible a rush to judgment can affect an innocent person, it also paints a very clear picture of a woman who is not even here to defend herself.  Basically the movie does the exact same thing it is warning about.

1917. 8/10

Really great cinematography and a cool story. The last 15 minutes started to go over-the-top a bit. But overall a cool film.

One of my top 10 of all time.

Everytime I go back and watch it, I've forgotten how good it is.

When John Cusack gives his "not one red cent" monologue, I well up every time.  You can feel it.

1917 - 9/10

That was a damn work of art by Sam Mendes. I couldn’t tell where he blended his cuts to make it appear as one cut, but most of it was legit. The first 20 minutes or so through the trenches into the German trench was amazing. 2 single shots for an entire movie is incredible. Not sure if it can be done regularly, but this particular story and plot set up for it nicely, and it was incredible.

I watched the 1999 remake of The Haunting for the first time last night. For the first half or so, it was kind of like the original, but on acid with how crazy and illogically designed the interior of that mansion was. And then it went off the rails so, so hard. And with the exception of Owen Wilson's death, it wasn't even a funny off the rails. CGI overload and pure stupidity. 3/10 in one of those "first half = 6/10, second  half = 0/10" ways.

  • Parasite - 9.5/10
  • Once Upon...Hollywood - 9.8/10 (even better the 2nd time)
  • Ford vs Ferrari - 8.8/10

I can’t believe FvF doesn’t even crack my top 3 of the best picture noms. What a year for movies. And Bale was robbed. Absolutely deserves Best Supporting Actor nomination (unless he was the lead, then deserves Best Actor nomination).

The Green Mile...again. I watch it when ever I find it on TV. It was also my first "official' date with my Wife back in January of 2000. My daughter was with us at a midnight showing.  My daughter will be 34 in May.

My wife is out of the country for the weekend, so I re-watched the original Star Wars trilogy. I really don't remember much of anything from those movies, but I remember loving them as a kid.

Sling Blade

Holds up well for me. 8/10

Thornton’s transformation to play Karl was amazing.

I really enjoy the language and phrases.

John Ritter and J. T. Walsh (creepy guy in the nervous hospital) both died at the age of 54.

Hoping to catch jojo this week. Then will only have little Women left.

After not wanting to see it all year, wife now wants to watch Hollywood (after the Oscars last night). So I guess I’ll be seeing that a 3rd time sometime this week lol.

This encouraged me to watch this again, as it has been forever.  How on earth did BBT not get the Oscar for this?  His transformation is better than anyone I can even think of.

Once upon a time seems to be a love or hate sort of movie.

I am in the latter, in my opinion it was horrible and the only time I seriously considered leaving the theater.

Rio ... again.  For probably the 100th time.  0/10

I probably used to give it a higher score, but after seeing it this many times, I basically just hate the movie.

What did you not like? Genuinely curious. Leo’s 2nd best performance imo. Pitt was fantastic. The plot was great. The production design was as good as QT has ever been. Finally, QTs message, while subtle, was extremely well written/done.

I thought Pitt and Jack Dawson did a good acting job, but I found the plot long, boring and very uninteresting.  I believe it had a chance of being very interesting but man it just drug on and to us was very unentertaining.

I didnt really realize it until after the movie thought that there isnt a QT movie that i like so maybe it is just his style.

We went with three other couples and all 8 of us really didnt like it (guess its true that birds of a same feather flock together) and by reading reviews it really was a love or hate it sort of movie.
