What are your hobbies?

Curious what others do to pass the time.

I've brewed beer off and on (mostly off) for about 6 or 7 years now, but I'm starting to get a little more serious about it. I've stocked up on books and have been reading a ton about the process, and have brewed more this year already than I have the last several years combined. I've upgraded a lot of my equipment which makes for an easier brew day, as well as better beer. My latest batch (Jarrylo saison) was almost perfect on the gravity measurements (used to calculate ABV) and, after cracking on open last night, tasted great.

I also read a lot, as evidenced by the what are you reading thread.

I'm also gearing up with some basic woodworking tools as I ultimately want to build my own canoe in the future. Unfortunately I haven't had enough time to really get into the hobby yet. I am hoping I can ease into it starting this fall when the weather starts to cool down.

My main hobbies are cycling and hiking. I love being outdoors and active. Been slowly getting into photography, but nothing serious, it's an expensive/time consuming hobby to forge into. Would also love to get into woodworking, but waiting to get a house with space for that. I have the same lofty aspirations as you Justin, would love to build my own furniture.

I'm pretty active, so anything that gets me moving or working with my hands is pretty great. Once I buy a house, I could easily see myself spending a ton of time landscaping & gardening.

Some photos from a recent hike that didn't turn out to be total ass.

Trying to get involved with a group that has ppl as into hiking/camping/cycling as I am, currently only have one friend left in the bay area that's down to go backpacking or camping in remote areas. My wife likes to hike, but she's only willing to drive ~1 hr from our house and do a ~2 hour hike. That's fun an all, but there is still so much more I want to see.

Music, hiking, food.

I DJ regularly and occasionally host/promote parties and events. I love cooking so discovering new recipes and trying them out is fun. Also eating in general is great, I'm constantly searching for the next place to try.

I've always been into hiking, easy stuff in Ohio, but I got back into it after going to Colorado last summer. I've never done a proper overnighter or multi day hike/camping trip, but hope to the next time I go out there.  I didn't realize how many options I had close to NYC, so I've been doing that this summer. Breakneck Ridge is happening on Saturday.

I read at least one book/week. I also love to write, but rarely ever do it. I do have a Q&A A Day journal, so at least I'm writing a sentence or two almost daily, but I'd like to do more than that.

I like to craft, but I don't currently have a good space for all of the supplies, so I don't do it as often as I'd like.

I enjoy cooking and baking. I actually like the entire process, from deciding what to make, shopping for the ingredients to actually cooking it.

I also like drinking alcohol with my friends.

Want to get into some model train hobbying by this Christmas.  I have a couple of HO sets, one of them is a Christmas train.  I want to set that up going around some of our Christmas village collection, either on a table or on the floor around the tree.    Got a half-finished train table in the garage I'm building, but it's tough to find the time.

Starting taking weekly drumset lessons last summer, has been really interesting.  I love practicing each day.  Probably won't live long enough to sound better than mediocre, but it's fun.  Plus I can better understand what the local pros are doing when I watch them play live.

Been thinking about model plane flying also.   My wife bought me a simple model that runs on a re-chargeable battery, no engines or fuel to mess with.   Gonna take that out later this summer and see if I want to take it further.

Drinking booze, eating good food, getting hammered drunk during the day on the weekends, bar games (pool, shuffleboard, darts, etc.), any sort of gambling, anything where I don’t have to exert much physical activity or being outside.

Semi hobby/professional, watching the equity and bond markets. Eventually will get into more patterned day trading but too broke rn paying for a wedding and not good enough yet.

Taking walks, random riding around county roads with my son, baseball, outdoor improvements, golfing. Enjoy trails but don’t give a lot of effort in getting to more than 4-5 a summer

I like to long distant shoot. Collecting toys from my youth transformers, gi joe, voltron, and a few others. In the last two years I have went from 398 to 221 at my last doctor visit so lifting and working out has become a big interest lately. I also like to work on electronics like tvs, old and new radios, and have recently been taking on some small appliance repair work.

My wife says I make sawdust, but in truth I turn wood into things.  Have been doing wood working for years and find it to be the best.

It’s a lump charcoal Kamado style smoker. It’s basically a metal version of the ceramic style (big green egg). Think it’s called an Akorn. Even though it’s more of a pain than the electric ones, I feel like the taste and bark turns out better. I’ll upgrade to a ceramic one when this one gets too shitty.

I read a ton of books, classic bookworm. My family never gets rid of (sells, give away) books. We keep them. Downstairs we have a book room with a few thousand books.
I also love to cook and try different ways to cook food, different spices, etc. Lately I've been watching some Carnival Eats (because I love fair food) and making my own version of a lot of stuff that I've seen.

Also, I've got horses and riding has been a lifelong hobby. I've got 280 acres of land so it's always varied, although I have some favorite paths. It's actually a very therapeutic thing to be able to get away from the house for 1-3 hours and just be by myself. Always take a phone and a gun with me (coyotes are getting bad) and sometimes my neighbors will ride, too.

Cooking - generally grilling and smoking, and in the winter get into soups and marinara sauce/meatballs etc..

Salt water fishing - offshore, just can't do enough of it though.

Wineries - have been to most in NE Ohio, NW PA, and Western NY.  Looking to hit the Finger Lakes region and CA.
