Curious what others do to pass the time.
I've brewed beer off and on (mostly off) for about 6 or 7 years now, but I'm starting to get a little more serious about it. I've stocked up on books and have been reading a ton about the process, and have brewed more this year already than I have the last several years combined. I've upgraded a lot of my equipment which makes for an easier brew day, as well as better beer. My latest batch (Jarrylo saison) was almost perfect on the gravity measurements (used to calculate ABV) and, after cracking on open last night, tasted great.
I also read a lot, as evidenced by the what are you reading thread.
I'm also gearing up with some basic woodworking tools as I ultimately want to build my own canoe in the future. Unfortunately I haven't had enough time to really get into the hobby yet. I am hoping I can ease into it starting this fall when the weather starts to cool down.

My main hobbies are cycling and hiking. I love being outdoors and active. Been slowly getting into photography, but nothing serious, it's an expensive/time consuming hobby to forge into. Would also love to get into woodworking, but waiting to get a house with space for that. I have the same lofty aspirations as you Justin, would love to build my own furniture.
I'm pretty active, so anything that gets me moving or working with my hands is pretty great. Once I buy a house, I could easily see myself spending a ton of time landscaping & gardening.
Some photos from a recent hike that didn't turn out to be total ass.
Trying to get involved with a group that has ppl as into hiking/camping/cycling as I am, currently only have one friend left in the bay area that's down to go backpacking or camping in remote areas. My wife likes to hike, but she's only willing to drive ~1 hr from our house and do a ~2 hour hike. That's fun an all, but there is still so much more I want to see.

Walking at the Metro Park with my wife every evening (cold, snow, heat notwithstanding) and spending as much time as possible with our grandkids.

Drinking booze, eating good food, getting hammered drunk during the day on the weekends, bar games (pool, shuffleboard, darts, etc.), any sort of gambling, anything where I don’t have to exert much physical activity or being outside.
Semi hobby/professional, watching the equity and bond markets. Eventually will get into more patterned day trading but too broke rn paying for a wedding and not good enough yet.

I like to long distant shoot. Collecting toys from my youth transformers, gi joe, voltron, and a few others. In the last two years I have went from 398 to 221 at my last doctor visit so lifting and working out has become a big interest lately. I also like to work on electronics like tvs, old and new radios, and have recently been taking on some small appliance repair work.

Like to smoke meat and cook in general
We have a 17 foot boat we like to cruise around the rivers in
I run occasionally, used to do more, need to get back into it
Mainly now is sitting on the couch watching tv with wife and 4 month old during the week, and going to the pool and drinking on weekends

My wife says I make sawdust, but in truth I turn wood into things. Have been doing wood working for years and find it to be the best.
What is your favorite thing you've made?

What smoker do you have?
It’s a lump charcoal Kamado style smoker. It’s basically a metal version of the ceramic style (big green egg). Think it’s called an Akorn. Even though it’s more of a pain than the electric ones, I feel like the taste and bark turns out better. I’ll upgrade to a ceramic one when this one gets too shitty.

I read a ton of books, classic bookworm. My family never gets rid of (sells, give away) books. We keep them. Downstairs we have a book room with a few thousand books.
I also love to cook and try different ways to cook food, different spices, etc. Lately I've been watching some Carnival Eats (because I love fair food) and making my own version of a lot of stuff that I've seen.
Also, I've got horses and riding has been a lifelong hobby. I've got 280 acres of land so it's always varied, although I have some favorite paths. It's actually a very therapeutic thing to be able to get away from the house for 1-3 hours and just be by myself. Always take a phone and a gun with me (coyotes are getting bad) and sometimes my neighbors will ride, too.
