Reading the travel thread and figured we should have a thread on restaurants that we have visited while traveling. I know we’ve had some threads similar, but none dedicated to it.
Just ate what might’ve been the best burger in America last night at Au Cheval in Chicago. Holy fuck. 2.5 hour wait on a Monday...well worth it.
S&L, I assume you have tried it, but if not you gotta go.

A great Chicago restaurant that I've only been to once, the Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder Company.

I've been to Au Cheval 4-5 times. Their burgers fucking rule. Never waited less than 2 hours.
Have you been to Small Cheval in Old Town? It's basically Au Cheval but you order at a counter and it's quick. It's great.

Help me out on why it’s always over 2 hours. All parts of the day or just you eating at 6:30 pm each time?

It’s been named the best burger in America a few times by various outlets. Always ranked in the top 20. So when you have a specialty in a city that big, you’re gonna be packed all hours of every day. It isn’t a small place, but prkbanly only seats about 50 at a time...It’s just damn good.
The wait isn’t bad though, since it’s text based. So, they text you and you have 10 minutes to get back. We just went to a bar nearby while we waited.

S&L.. is it true the "true" Chicago pizza isn't deep dish but thin crust cut in squares? I keep hearing deep dish is for tourists.

That’s Detroit I think. But Chicago also does squares for thin crust.

I think that's just "Midwest" style. There's a place here that call's theirs Detroit-style and it is bomb.

I know we have a few NC residents on here. Have any been to Bida Manda in Raleigh? Opened around a year before I left so I didn’t get to go too often. But the best fucking lettuce wraps I’ve ever had. It’s Laosian and delicious. Opened as a top 15 new restaurant in the country for the year 2016 (opened late in the year).

Small squares are huge in the south side of Chicago. I work in oak lawn/evergreen park burb and there’s like 5 bomb pizza places with small squares Pizza. Most Chicago pizza places thin crust pizza is square pizza.
I am not a fan of deep dish.

My hometown pizza place has cut theirs in squares my entire life. I don't think it's a special thing...?

I'm a fan of deep dish as long as it is only occasionally. Brick over though is where it's at.

Two restaurants in Pittsburgh that are a few blocks from Allegheny Hospital that I've been to in the past 3 weeks.
Max's Tavern specializes in German food. Two thumbs up!
Huszar Hungarian Bar & Grille. Two thumbs up!
Both are just corner restaurants, not very big, specialty beers and any top shelf drink you can think of and the food is friggen awesome. If you're ever in that area of Pittsburgh, I highly recommend it.

I prefer them cut in squares over slices.

Carson's in Milwaukee is amazing. If every pork chop was that good I woild prefer it over steak.
Chicago I think has one.
Went to Paula Deans place in Tennessee recently. Chicken and creamed corn was damned good. The rest....pedestrian.

I prefer it cut in squares actually. Prefer the edge to edge cheese whereas slices usually have too much crust on the ends.
