Yeah, it is a bit brisk out there.

Can't disagree.   That being said, this is the worst combination of cold, snow, and wind I can remember in Columbus since the '77 blizzard.  But they've been crying wolf so often you're not quite prepared when he actually shows up!

Woke at 5 AM because of the howling outside.  Left for work 30 mins early, freeway treacherous.  Then I get stuck in a drift right at the keycard reader to open parking lot gate.  Had to call my boss to come out and shovel me free.  Walking from there to the door was brutal.

I can deal with a temp of zero, but not with 30 mph winds.

The wind, definitely. But wasn't it just 10 or so years ago that we had about 2 weeks of -20 to -30 wind chill, with the difference being that it was more pure cold and less wind than now? I remember that snap lasted so long that my cold-hating ass had gotten used to it and was joking around that I didn't even need a coat when it heated up to -10 or so.

Anyway, knocking on wood, but things are good right now. Still have electricity, still have running water (that -20/-30 stretch featured the "joy" of pipes freezing under the house and me being without running water for something like 2 weeks) and I get to work from home today, which is code for "I get to drink on the job today!".

Far side of the house is succumbing to 25-30 mile an hour winds so it’s colder but main part feels normal. I went outside to take recycling to the garage and start up all 4 cars and open doors to prevent freezing shut. 9/14 doors opened and got 3 cars started….old truck doors wouldn’t open so we’ll work on that here soon.  Back tire showing low in wife’s car.

About 15 minutes was all I could do.

Need to take the tv off the outside patio too.

Probably the coldest temps I’ve felt in my life. At one time yesterday am it was -14 with real feel of -26.

This was in West Denver.

Warming up today. It’s currently 1 F.

Dropped another degree to -3. Went out to get the mail and it wasn't horrible but wouldn't want to stay out there very long.

2018 or something we had the arctic blast in Chicago. -40 for a week to 10 days. Did that not hit Ohio?

Milwaukee and NW Indiana got 18 inches. Chicago got 3. Skirted that bullet, but weather reports were spot on starting Tuesday. Last weekend they weren’t sure what part of the storm would hit where, once that was settled, they nailed the total in this area.

It may have….but I will concede that this current weather in Jackson Ohio is the coldest weather I’ve ever been in. If facing the 25–30 mph wind it’s hard to be outside for a minute. Any skin exposed doesn’t last long.

My car felt like it was going to break in half (it is very old though)….I walked about 1 minute from Walmart to my car to leave….just a t-shirt and a hoodie (because in the end I am gym teacher dumb) and by the time I got to my car in that wind in the face walk….I had to gather myself in the car because the fingers weren’t working. Another minute that direction and I probably start getting a bit scared.

Garbage men just went by. Props to those dudes.

Here it is. Difference was air temps were about 10 degrees lower, but wind wasn’t as strong. This wind makes it feel colder. But that was a BRUTAL 2 weeks.

I recall it now and it lasted forever…but I never remember not being able to be outside for this short of a time.

My detached garage has 2 heaters going and it’s still only 32 degrees out there.

Huh, I thought that was longer ago than that. Main thing I remember about it was the frozen pipes so I had no running water inside my place for a couple weeks. That was different!

Was sleeping all day. Came downstairs to thermostat saying 61. Door to garage had blown open. Fortunately shutting it and locking it (which I never do) keeps it shut and the temp is rising. We just replaced HVAC system a few months ago and days like this make me happy we did.

I know it’s not comparable, and I’ve been there, but it is cold as balls in coastal SC. Currently “feel like” 23, with a low of actual 18 without wind chill. These people have no idea what to do. Thankfully no precipitation. It usually isn’t this cold other than like 1 week in February.

Yeah….I’m El Paso Texas it was 18 degrees earlier today. Fortunately for Bowl game it’ll be 60 degrees

I lived in Birmingham for 6 years.  It was under 25 maybe 2-3 times during that stretch.  The days before it happened, the entire Publix was emptied.

Wow.  For some reason I have no recollection of that.  Looked up the weather almanac for Columbus for that time and there it is - teens and single digits for a good four weeks or so, with some single-digit minus in there.

My wife was in a car accident then and had a couple of surgeries.  Maybe I just blocked everything else out.  Probably kept the woodburner going more than usual.

Remember watching this on TV with my father.  I shivered the entire time.  And the camera would cut away to these fans.  There was a rumor that one of them died from this, but was never sure what happened to them.

I went ice fishing that day.  I couldn’t believe that they played that game.
