Yeah, it’ll replenish. But, having money sit there till you need it is better than spending it because you don’t have one, right?
I guess, but it would annoy me to have that money sitting there for potentially a couple years before I actually needed to use it again. Also, if the below info is correct, I'm going to be paying $.75/month just for the privilege of having a transponder?
Q: What is the cost to obtain an E-ZPass transponder?
A: Transponder pricing varies by toll agency. While some charge an upfront fee, the Ohio Turnpike leases transponders to Ohio E-ZPass customers for $ .75 per month. NOTE: Starting with trips taken in January 2014, the $ .75 per month maintenance fee will be waived for all Ohio Turnpike E-ZPass transponders that are used for 30 single or 15 round trips in Ohio in the previous month.
A minimum balance of $25.00 per transponder is required to establish your account, and a credit card is required to maintain the account. Toll fares will be deducted from your account when the transponder is read at an interchange. When the balance on the E-ZPass account reaches or falls below $10.00 per transponder, the customer’s credit card on file will be charged to replenish the E-ZPass balance for future use. A one-time, $3.00 charge is applied when the customer's transponder is activated. *International shipping rate will apply

I'm just trying to run the numbers to see if it's worth it, as others have said it is even if you only make one trip a year. When you add everything up I don't think it makes sense for me. It seems like a nice idea, paying half the price for all tolls, but the admin fees kinda kill it for someone that isn't going to be using it very often.

It’s 75 cents a month lol (not even sure what that is—I’ve never seen that)
and besides, you’re ignoring the convenience factor. You’ll sometimes wait 10-15 min to get through a toll paying cash. With an I pass you go right through.

I've yet to experience any delays like that getting through the toll plazas, but it's a fair point.

S&L, do you have an EZPass, or an IPass? I can't seem to find any info on IPass having a monthly service fee, and they also have the option of manual replenish instead of auto-replenish. That seems like the option that makes the most sense for me.

Looks like your gonna hit the Chicago Skyway Toll. You’ll have to wait a bit there. it’s not open road tolling on that flight. The cash lines can take a bit of time.
As for the fee, I’d never paid that $.75 and I never paid a $3.00 fee upon activation. Just the $10.00 it cost to buy the thing.
Which pass do you have?

Just ordered my I-Pass as I verified there is no monthly/yearly admin fee and it isn't going to automatically replenish itself. So for $30 I'll have all of my tolls covered for my trip this year and still have a bit leftover for next year that I can add to before the trip. I'll spend about $4 more this year than I would if I paid cash, but that's a cheap convenience fee for not having to slow down at all, and next years and all subsequent trips will be much cheaper.
Thanks for talking me into it.

I just took a trip last week to San Francisco. I'd been to Silicon Valley, out by Pier 39, and around the GG Bridge, but I'd never actually been in downtown San Francisco.
What a shithole.

SF smells so bad.
The whole city downtown smells like that guy standing outside the Circle K asking for a quarter.

Supposed to fly into Newark today for work, didn't want to get in late so schedule and early flight (9 am local time). Flight is canceled due to weather and I'm now on a flight to JFK at 2 PM QQ. yeah, JF fucking K, the airport I was trying to avoid as I'm staying in fucking New Jersey for the night. No flights to newark today from my airlines, but JFK is fine? Makes no sense. /QQ story.

good lord--so much for my wife and I taking a trip there--ughhh!
Yeah I always tell ppl, SF is alright. Parts of it are cool and the trains are cute I guess. Outside of that, the embarcadero is a tourist trap, it's VERY expensive, walking over the GG is not a pleasant exp (it's always cold and windy AF, plus 85% of the time there is t h i c c fog so visibility is near zero [lol]). However, Marin/Muir Woods/Half Moon Bay, Carmel, Napa/Sonoma, & Santa Cruz are amazing. Go there instead.

Maybe, but Recchiuti Confections in the Ferry building is great. We were drawn to it because that's my wife's maiden name and we were not disappointed. The s'more bites are incredible, even if they are absurdly priced.

This could go in the restaurant thread, but I'll post here since we're talking about SF. Ever been to House of Nanking? I went based off of feedback from a co-worker (it's been 6 years since we've been there) and it was great. We walked in and the tiny old Asian lady gruffly pointed to a table and said "You sit there." Food was very good.

I have not been. Admittedly Asian food is my favorite style of food, and will only eat it when other ppl want to get it.

It sucks that the coast basically ruins it for everyone else.
