I love Archer, but having to look up the references on Wiki makes the episodes long when I fall down that rabbit hole

The Simpsons and South Park are for sure 1 and 2. I voted The Simpsons though.
Also I'm with iclfan... if you haven't watched Big Mouth on Netflix then you're missing out. Hilarious show.
Is BoJack Horseman or F is For Family good? I've never watched an episode of either shows.
posted by O-TrapI dunno. I enjoyed it when I was like 10, and most of the stuff wasn't over my head. Didn't seem like an adult-themed cartoon the way some of the others on the list are.
Yeah I suppose. The plot revolves around a drunk dad who is probably on the spectrum. It doesn’t have sexual overtones like some others, and doesn’t have swearing bleeped out. But at the same time it isn’t Spongebob.
Especially early I think it was more adult. Not that kids couldn’t enjoy it (and I did when I started watching around age 13) because they always threw in the “dumb Homer” humor and enough plots with Bart and Lisa. But many of the characters problems revolves around things you experience as an adult.
IMO, yes, The Simpsons is considered adult humor, especially with it's racy overtones and double entendres.

That's fair. I picked up that he drank and was an idiot. Didn't really peg him for being an alcoholic on the spectrum, but I guess that's central enough to the core of the show that I get it as an adult cartoon.
Naturally, it's not Spongebob. Thank goodness. I always hated that fucking show.
posted by Laley23I wouldn’t classify Looney Tunes as adult. Some jokes are above child level, but for the most part those characters are all kid geared.
Looney Tunes was not geared for kids.
That is some pretty interesting stuff about Looney Tunes. I always figured it was for kids.
What is everyone thoughts on Rocko's Modern Life? Kids cartoon or for adults? I watched and loved it when I was kid but as I got older rewatched and saw more stuff about it definitely seemed to be for adults.

I kinda thought of that in the same vein as Ren & Stimpy. Kinda blurred the lines between being geared toward kids and geared toward adults.

When my son was around 5 years old, he loved that show and I would watch it with him. He liked the antics, while I was cracking up at some of that shit that was done and said!

I've tried a few times to find some of the old Looney Tunes originals. Granted, I didn't make much of an effort, but I had heard they were quite a bit more risque from even the edited versions we saw 30 years ago. I can't imagine how badly they're chopped in today's uber PC-climate.
LOL, if you think about it, they might as well just play old Bugs Bunny cartoons at Sensitivity/Harassment training as examples of what not to do. I think Bugs pretty well covers the gamut of racism, sexism, bullying, lewdness and all forms of bigotry.
South Park
Family Guy
I watched a new episode of the Simpsons a few years back and dont remember laughing once. I watched the pilot of Bob's Burgers when it premiered and didn't laugh once.

Watch Simpsons S1-S9. He writers were better. And Conans episodes (he only wrote like 5-6) are fucking incredible.

Okay good. I'm not the only one.
I grew up on the classic Simpsons, loving the first 10-11 seasons and then tolerating it for 4-5 more before gradually stopping watching it. So I'd put them #1 and South Park at #2. Really dug SP, but I don't think any show of that sort had that "make sure I see it" aspect of the Simpsons. Well, really seasons 3-to-11 or so, as the first two just seemed to be like regular shows with cartoon characters and they really found their zaniness in the third season, at least with consistency.

And virtually ever character has a speech impediment.
