Front license plate

Maybe. I've never had an issue in the 4-5 years since I stopped using one.

That's the advantage of being close to the river. Cops here don't give it a second thought because they just assume a car is from Kentucky if it has no front plate.

Living in Alabama I'm thankful to not have to have one in the front. I think they are terrible and always hated having one when I lived in Ohio.

Seems odd to break the law, no matter how dumb and small a violation it would be, over protecting the bumper of a car. But I couldn’t care less about what my car looked like. I only really care about my houses appearance.

I did a quick scan at the gym last night and roughly 40% of the cars with Ohio plates had no plate on front. Lots of scofflaws out there.

They're ugly and I don't like them.

Agree.

One of our cars is from N. Carolina – no front plate holder and I did not feel like mucking it up.  It was ironic that I once got a parking ticket with that car in Columbus, when in fact I put money in the meter.  I fought the ticket (in the mail), and after a couple back-n-forths they changed the story and said it really wasn’t a parking ticket, it was no front plate.  I told them to stuff it and never paid it.

The other car is a ’99 Benz convertible; I am not going to muck up the front of it either.

And yes, I think the statehouse is going axe the front plate shortly.

I've simply never looked at a car and thought, "Wow, what an ugly POS. If that front plate wasn't there however...BEAUTIFUL!". It just seems odd to me to risk a fine over your cars "appearance" that's all.

So then why not abide by the law and just get a front license plate?

Because I don't want to? Because I think my car looks nicer without a front plate? Because it's a silly law?

Until I get busted for it, the front of my car is going unmolested.

Lol, I know. And like I said earlier, I'm not drilling holes in my bumper to put one on. It's interesting to me that you seem to care so much about this.

The only downside (and it can be a big one) is getting pulled over for lack of a front plate, after you have had a few drinks.

Which is weird. Because as you said, it's just a license plate. And a not insignificant percentage of Ohioans are also flaunting the law. Seems like a waste of mental capital to put so much thought into the subject.

Not following the law because you don’t want to “drill holes in your bumper” seems silly. That’s all I’m saying. I’m not exerting a bunch of energy lol it’s a message board, isn’t that what we’re here for?

Fair enough, but it's clear that I don't care enough to be compliant.

Now watch, in 3 weeks I'll resurrect this thread after getting a ticket for no front plate.

July 1, 2020 though. If you don't have one now I expect for Law Enforcement to crack down on it for the next year.

I have friends who have been stopped and warned here in Wayne County.  It also makes it open season to stop and search.

Is this true? I'm almost certain this would not legally justify a search without a warrant.

Right, what would their probably cause be? You don't have a front plate so we believe you to be a drug trafficker.

From the ORC:

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4503.21v1

(B) A law enforcement officer shall only issue a ticket, citation, or summons, or cause the arrest or commence a prosecution, for the failure to display a license plate in plain view on the front of a parked motor vehicle if the officer first determines that another offense has occurred and either places the operator or vehicle owner under arrest or issues a ticket, citation, or summons to the operator or vehicle owner for the other offense.

Seems like a missing front plate only comes into play if you commit another driving offense.
