I am seeing a lot of chatter on twitter that there are likely food shortages on the horizon. Anyone else heard anything about this?

Haven’t heard anything, but last summer when they happened our grocery stores got hit. Wasn’t crippling, but did suck.

Put in a bidet and your days of worrying about tp shortages are over.

I thought this was a bumped thread from last year.

I also haven’t heard or seen anything. But there was something on the news about possible gas shortages because of lack of truck drivers.

I haven’t crossed over to the bidet yet in Europe. I’d be lying if I didn’t have some fear of it.

I've seen shortages here and there of different things.  Went to the grocery and not a single strawberry in sight a couple weeks ago.

Spending a long period in Europe is how I started.  I too was afraid.  The older I got, though, the more I didn't feel "clean" after doing my duty.  So I bought a Tushy - which is just one of those cheap plastic bidets you attach to your existing toilet.  I got it in December of last year.  Now I can say I will never not have one.  The feeling of cleanliness is something I will never give up.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I have always been a little weird about being clean (lots of showers).  So I don't know if I'm a typical user.  But I gotta think for most people, once you go down that road, going back to rubbing the area with dry paper or even smearing it with a wipe will never be acceptable again.

This time last year they threw out a meat shortage and since tp shortage was real I went and stocked up that eve....never happened though.

Everyone has that extra cash....not much hunger out there for sure and drive thru lines are impossible

All school breakfasts and lunches are free and sending huge boxes of food home to these same families every Friday.....gonna serve food during summer.

There is food somewhere but some shortages will happen. I heard 10 years ago chicken wings and that sort would run out and when thinking about the volume of that hard to believe it hadn’t happened.

CDL sites closed or not enough workers so hearing that is a key cog but doesn’t seem legit reason.

$4 gas and low food supply....we’ll see

Bumping this back up with an updated title. Tons of supply chain issues right now. How high do you expect prices to get going into the winter?

I'm not sharing this because I necessarily agree with the tweet. I am sharing it because the map is crazy.

And what is the answer/reason why?

I've heard a lack of workers at the ports. A lack of truckers. Etc.

Maybe Boatshoes will come back and write another convincing essay of why inflation is permanently dead.

The global economy clearly is mostly set-up to be just-in-time.  Combined with little excess capacity (which would normally be inefficient), seems we just can't re-stock with lockdowns and labor shortages still prevalent throughout the world.

Bizarre thing I heard the other day was a major CPAC recall is going to devastate trucking - I assume because most are obese smokers with sleep apnea - for well over a year.

Port issues have been ongoing for a while.  I guess Biden is fucking up so much else the media doesn't have any spare bandwidth to criticize him on the economy.

I’m not convinced the east coast backup is that bad. CHS is about the 6th ranked port in the US and I drive past it everyday. There are not ships just sitting around.

That’s good news if so.

I've seen a number of different "maps."  I have no idea if ANYTHING I see is true or manufactured, anymore.

Not sure about the other ports, but a few on the WC are definitely a mess.  Saw an article the other day that was saying how the crews on these ships have like no food, no water, no money and nowhere to go.  Seems like that's probably an exagerration, though.

Yeah that’s not the nature of Americans. Most insist on helping hungry folks in situations they can’t control.

Ships are not sitting delayed in the Great Lakes either.  I can also say the port of Mobile is not significantly delayed.

Perhaps the map isn't as bad as it looks zoomed out like that. I did see video from (apparently) the West Coast, and have heard stories corroborating said video, but it might be isolated to that area.
