My wife deals with this daily. She says there are so many ships here because there is nothing shipping out of the US. It’s obviously expensive for these big cargo ships to cross the ocean so they need to be filled and can’t take empty containers.
Then on the other hand now there are no cargo ships or containers in the other countries for items to be shipped over here. She said cargo containers are like gold right now. Walmart has addressed the issue by buying their own ships.
My wife’s current company deals in high end rugs so they are demanding manufacturers fly the rugs over at the manufacturers cost because they are so far behind deadlines because of shipping issues.

This is probably worth paying attention to.

If you're in manufacturing you have a nightmare on your hands right now. I don't see it getting better any time soon. It started with paying people not to work, which continues in some form or another now, but there is also a cultural shift and other factors involved. A vax mandate will be the nail in the coffin for many businesses. There is no one in mfg that is not short on people by at least 10%, many 20%; their viability is coming into question, especially if they also rely on foreign supplies. This is perhaps the most bizarre situation I've seen in my decades; of course we've never been this close to socialism either.
We will check back with you in 1-2 years and, as usual, none of your doom and gloom will have come to pass.
