So the Trump campaign is letting people donate to send fake bricks to Pelosi.
Brilliant and hilarious....although I'm not quite sure why they don't send real bricks.
Yeah, I saw that. An acquaintance of mine sent something like five.
Seems silly to me, but hey, it's his money. And it's a good fundraising strategy.

I am a 30-yr Federal employee who’s been on furlough since 12/29. I received half my paycheck on 01/07. My mortgage payment & 2 car payments are late & today I was ordered back to work for no pay. If I don’t show up, I will be fired. If you support trump, I hope you rot in hell.
You've been working in the federal govt for 30 years and are still living paycheck to paycheck? That's not Trump's fault, dude.

This. If you're someone who just started their career, and was a victim of bad timing, I feel for you. Otherwise, the fault for your life being substantially affected by missing a couple of paychecks is 100% yours. I feel far worse for the private sector victims of the shutdown, those who are damaged by the agencies they're forced to deal with not being open.

Yeah, I have a few friends that are furloughed, but have funds stashed up so they are fine...for now.
My guess is while he may be a 30 year employee, he is either low on the GSA payscale, or sucks at saving.

Holy hell.
See, this is why I never go on Twitter. I made the mistake of reading a few of the comments as well. Won't make that mistake again for awhile.

lol. No chance he is telling the truth, or he's a moron.
I'm guessing the latter.

Definitely the latter. Couple be both, but definitely the latter. If he's been working for 30 years, unless he's had some significant and unusual financial crises recently, there's no reason he shouldn't have at least few months' worth saved up.

You've got two car payments but don't have an emergency savings built up. Again, not Trump's fault. I hate that these people make me defend that jackass.

Same.
I feel the same way with people who are house poor.

Nothing anyone is saying here is wrong, but it doesn't change the reality that 70-80% of American live paycheck-to-paycheck (some of whom are making pretty good money).
Blame cheap credit and an inability to live within one's means. The real reason most Americans can't afford healthcare? Because there are too many other luxury items they're trying to afford first. Nowhere is this better illustrated than smart phones - I saw many complaining on message boards about being "locked into plans" because they couldn't afford to pay retail for a phone - meaning they didn't have $600 in savings to buy a phone. And, of course, these were the same people upgrading a perfectly good phone every YEAR.
Not to mention the fact that, as it stands, there are enough people doing this that you could find a fully functional, well-maintained, used phone for less than half of the cost if you wanted to.
And of course, we need Hulu, Netflix, Prime, etc. We must be entertained, after all.

Huh, so the two dueling Senate Bills to reopen the Government both failed. But, more Rs voted for the Democratic Bill, which is a clean CR, than voted for the Republican Bill, which had wall funding.
Sounds like more Rs are defecting from the Trump position, at least in the Senate.

Yeah, there are a million or so forms of disposable entertainment out there and as a society, we have this fixation on "keeping up with the Joneses". Hell, as I've gotten older, I've gotten a lot better of shutting off the little voice that says "BUY THIS!!!!", but I'll still be at a friend's house and see some new contraption he bought and feel the itch to get it because it looks cool or seems like it might be useful down the road at some point in time.
Sure. Absolutely. I get it. I feel it too.
But we're supposed to be adults now. You know ... self-control and shit.

You do realize that the new trade deal that Mexico was forced into saves $7 billion a year for the US.
Boom....Mexico is paying for something
That's not how trade surpluses and deficits work. Also, there is nothing in the new text that forces Mexico to pay.
