Interesting choice.

The optics of having a Clinton talk about women doesn’t play well.  Who makes these decisions?

There's headlines out right now saying things like "Biden's first press conference and how to watch it".

How to watch it? I never read any of the articles, so perhaps they mean we have to get the 3D glasses out hahaha!

Biden’s brain malfunctioned in the first 10 minutes of his presser today. Also had a list of journalists to take questions from and was reading answers off of a paper. But at least he’s nice!

Their repeated claims that the filibuster is racist, even though the Dems used it multiple times last year (including against a Tim Scott bill), continues to be laughable.

That was tough to watch even with the press taking it easy on him.  Yikes.

The filibuster itself is not racist, but it was used throughout the 20th century, by Southern Democrats to stop and slow down civil right legislation. So, it does have a history as it was a tool used by those that wanted to keep segregation.

On the press conference. It was as expected. I was more annoyed there were no COVID questions. He mentioned he is doubling the goal of shots to 200M by the end of 100 days, no follow up about that? Also, no follow up on getting kids back to school and COVID?

I know the history of the filibuster, but saying it should be blown up bc it is racist is a joke.

You really think they were going to challenge him? The 200m number shows what a joke his 100m goal was, and 200m is also not much of a reach. He also completely ignored the gun control question and went on a tangent about infrastructure.

Yeah, I'm in the Manchin camp that it should be preserved, but probably reformed to go back toward a more Mr. Smith goes to Washington version. If you are going to say you are going to do it, then you gotta do it. Go Ted Cruz style and read Green Eggs and Ham over hours. Once you stop or leave, then it is over.

I had a low bar for the press conference, but come on, no questions on COVID was pretty bad.

We have no idea who is running the country.  This is bizarre.

And of course, not one question about his campaign claims, which we now know were lies.  The radical left turn represents nothing more than fraud.

Bizarre has been going on for quite a few years now.

The only thing missing from the press conference were the white circles.

The dems want to get rid of the filibuster and they also want to get rid of the electoral college. It's blatantly transparent why they want both of these things gone.

And to add states that no one wants.

This is just really reckless and assumes they'll have a permanent majority.  But politicians only think about their own re-elections, and relatively "short" political careers.

People can bring up the "Jim Crow filibuster", but from my perspective if you can't get 60 votes in the Senate then it's probably not great legislation (and quite possibly awful).  And the "racist South" never had 40 votes in the Senate.

From the liberal perspective, simple majority rule doesn't threaten minority interests because they believe they are the party of minority interests.  But that's only true if you narrowly define "minority interests" through the lens of identity politics.

ptown and I agree. Filibuster should really be a filibuster, just just a "require 60 votes to pass" because that is NOT how the founding fathers intended it.

If your side wants to filibuster then sit there and read the phone book.

Hey look at that.

I'll only add, the concept of the filibuster has nothing to do with the Founding Fathers. If you look at the history of the filibuster, it is really a 20th and 21st century tool. In the 19th century, it was more theoretical. If anything, from the Federalist Papers, they would argue in favor of getting rid of the filibuster as they were against super majorities for anything.

So the power of the nation will be mostly centralized to the politics of the larger cities in the nation, those cities are so well run, what could go wrong with that?

Do we change the name of the nation from The United States of America to something different since it really won't reflect states voting preference at the executive branch?

Purposefully creating the current catastrophe at the border out of vindictiveness for Trump is surely great policy for the U.S.

 What a disaster.
