Brutus BuckeyeI agree Rocketsfan those should be the goals but you can't deny there is a little bit of a OSU v. UM feel to the Genoa v. OH rivalry. And I definitely don't want to see the numbers from the last 30 years lol
-
RocketsfanNo doubt and I do not want to play down the rivalry at all, but neither head coach at Genoa or OH have much history in the rivalry itself. Both teams really have seperate specified goals. It will always be a big game to the kids and fans of both schools and I hope it never dies. I know for a fact the Rockets are more interested in redeeming themselves from last year's loss to Port Clinton than worrying too much about Genoa.

You can add up scores if you want. Or I can tell you it's in Oak Harbor's favor. However, that was far from my point. If you reread my post you'll realize that it was more directed to how May has to get things together fast next year, because Oak Harbor and their alum is not accustomed to losing to Genoa, let alone getting blown out. If Genoa comes in and blows your Rockets out again next year, and then May leads to another losing record you better believe there will be alumni coming after him.Rocketsfan wrote: Yes, we are D3 now and the only reason I posted in your thread is because Genoa plays both Oak Harbor and Port Clinton as OOC games.
I am laughing at your past 2 years scores. Nice work against a brand new coach and a completely rebuilding team. Shall we tally up the Oak Harbor vs Genoa scores from the last 30 years ? Pretty sure you wouldnt like those numbers. Coach May will be fine and beating Genoa is not top priority at OH anymore. Winning the SBC and making the D3 playoffs is Coach May's goals, as they should be.
So beating Genoa is not a top priority anymore? Let Genoa win for another 5 years, then come back and tell me what your football team's priorities are. -
RocketsfanYou sure seem to know a lot about Oak Harbor atheltics. Are you an alumni ? If you will re - read my post, I say that beating Genoa on a yearly basis is not a high priority to Oak Harbor anymore ! I spoke to several players and they say the same thing. The loss to PC was much more painful to take.
Genoa is on an awesome ride and I hope it continues for a long time for their kids and fans. Please don't try to tell us a cross - county rivalry will make or break our head coach. I'm sure the powers - that - be in OH are much smarter than that. -
bwcomet89Lol I don't have to re-read your post. I'm disagreeing with you. I'm obviously not an OH alum, and although Genoa doesn't mean much to you, it means a whole lot to more to them. Mainly because when they played they beat us and expect the same now. Also, like I had previously said, the Genoa/Oak Harbor game is only one of many factors that need to change if May wants job security. Two consecutive losing seasons, smaller players, and questionable utilization of talent is something that is not thrown around by me, but your community who has high expectations for that football program. Hey, I hope May does turn it around, starts cranking out winning seasons and is the Rocket head coach for a long time. I am surely not hoping someone loses their job.

RocketsfanAhh BW it is so nice to have someone to talk to this early in the season ! The rivalry DOES mean a lot to me ! I played in the early 80s, so yes, you are correct that this game is important as far as rivalries go but...
we are not going to hinge someone's career on one OOC game. Even the great and almighty Coach Quis would have lost to genoa the last two years. Sad, but true. -

You can say what you want in support of coach may but the low numbers and the general lack of spirt the rockets have shown the last two years are VERY disturbing. The Port Clinton game last year was a perfect example of whats been going on in Oak Harbor the last two years. A very poor game plan and a group of kid's who didnt believe in their coach and didn't want to win bad enough. Honestly I think Oak Harbor was a tick ahead of PC talent wise but PC wanted it more and played that way.
That game was a major turning point for Port Clinton -
RocketsfanLack of spirit eh ? Guess you werent at the Clyde game last year. Did Coach May pee in your Cheerios Tink ? I have never understood your hatred of the man. I am so tired of hearing about the low numbers of players. Maybe if the parents would make their fat lazy ass kids get off the XBox, we'd have better numbers. I'd rather have kids who want to play anyways, and that is exactly what we have.

You can't blame parents and kids for not wanting to play football when the program does nothing to make the kid's want to play. This isnt 30 years ago when you either played football or played football. Kid's now a days have other sport options or a plethora of easy entertrainment options to fill their spare time. If you are not making your sports program something that kids want to put the time and effort into you will not succeed. This isnt about us adults it's about the kids and from what I can see the kids in Oak Harbor are not buying what coach may is attempting to sell and thats reflective in the numbers. When your a division 3 school albeit a small one and your only getting 35-40 kids out 10-12 you have a problem. There is no reason that a school Oak Harbor's size should have any less than 45-50 kids out 10-12.
