Dover 28- North West 21

    Tornadoes storm on

“I thought the greatest part was how we came back after they scored,” said Mamarella. “A lot of teams could have folded, but we fought hard and our coaches did a great job of preparing us.”

Yeah, gotta give NW credit for a game well played, this could have went either way. Dover didnt play their best game but hey u gotta win an ugly game or two in the playoffs. Feels good to finally come out on top in a game like this. I was really disappointed with the play of the Oline, but a couple of those sacks were on Marcus. Wish he had more hot route checks. We really brought out the blitzes in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs and we really stuffed NW, then got kind of preventish in the 4th. Without Ricky Maz, I'm not sure we come within 2 TDs tonite. He really stepped it up huge. Big INT and 70 yd return early to prevent a 14-0 hole. Then the two TD catches and the 60 yd kick return to give a FG shot in regulation.

Dover DBs, we need those picks!!!! Gotta have them this week!

Yeah Maz played lights out, he wants it.

Congrats to Dover on the big win. Northwest came ready to play and gave us all we wanted. I only have one question though, why in the world did we not run the power I (diesel) when we had the ball with 6:00 to go in the game, the ball in our own end, and an 8 point lead? They had not really stopped that all night. 4 yds a carry. We hadn't figured out there blitz by that point. Run it, get some first downs, and run the clock. Am i the only one who feels that way. I felt like our play calling almost gave that game away. I heard the same thing from Buckeye Local fans last week. They ran it well, then try to pass, and end up giving the ball back. I understand you can't wear those guys out for defense, but with 6 mins. to go, run the ball.

Who are you trying to kid? Come on, both teams left points on the field last night by missed opportunities and even if both teams capitalized who knows what the score would have been. The game had its good plays and its sloppy plays for both teams. Either way, whichever team won and plays the way they did last night is DOA next week. Two turnovers and dropped balls in next weeks game for Dover will kill them.

I wondered the same thing at the end. You're trying to run the clock out and the ideal thing would have been to keep the Power I and kick the FG with the least amount of time left. The Power I was successful and then Mams hurts his left hand, Dover calls TO, and the Power I disappears.

Are we talking about the drive before NW tied it? Only play call I did not like was taking a big sack on first down, then we almost got the first on 2nd and 3rd down.

We still ran some time, but like you said I would have loved to see us in the Stack or Wing T to run some clock since it had been successful.

I think Ifft probably wanted to try to get a quick first down off some short passes and it back fired after we took a sack on first down.

I'm referring to the drive with the FG attempt in it after NW tied the game.

Northwest fans you were right. I listened to this game while at the Ashland game and I had a great night. The Indians gave Dover all they could and handle and some. If not for a great comeback by Ashland I would have made it over to Fawcett it time to see the OT. But has it was I was almost to Cadiz before your game was over. Great Year Northwest!! Good luck next week Dover!!

Jim Shorts, I'm talking about the two times we had the ball inside the 5 and didn't get any points. A pick on the goal line and stopped on 4th and goal from the 1. Dover may have left a few points on the field, but not like that. I'm not taking anything away from the game here just saying Northwest had it's opportunities and didn't take all of them.

Northwest certainly tried to take advantage of those opportunities. Dover's goal line defense was just too hard hitting for NW and is what won that game for Dover.

Congrats Dover!!! From an Ashland fan.

Keep it going and show all mighty Big Red how to play some ball!!!

Let's hope for, dare I say it? State Championships for Dover and Ashland!!

The pick was bad communication between QB and Bach. Bach was going deeper in the end zone and QB threw it like he was running a hitch. I'll give your D the other one though. We couldn't run it behind our line with your Hoss' blowin us back off the ball. We finally realized it later and that's why we scored on the other two cause we ran it outside and let #30 use his speed.

Yeah, thats what happens when you run the spread with no running game whatsoever. We've ran that spread offense for 6/7 years and its awesome for moving the ball between the 20's ,but tough to score when u get close. just the nature of the beast, and some great defense by Dover.

GREAT D IN OT. 4th and 60? I guess that was caused by NW miss q's too. Give me a break!

And Dover dropped a pass in the endzone and fumbled on the 20 yard line. Your point is?

Guaranteed GrayWolf. Dover did nothing to win the game, Northwest only did stuff to lose the game!

NW fans, if not for a dirty sleazebag call by your classy coach, you would have had 3 trips inside the 5 with no points.

Please, defend that play all you want, but to me, that is a total lack of respect for your opponent, a complete lack of faith in your team, and a complete lack of integrity on Whiting's behalf, and I'd be saying the exact same thing if Ifft or any other team on any other day tried to pull the same kind of stunt.
I think the football gods took notice too, because the overtime period saw Dover outgain NW by a cool 80 yards (+20 to -60) and of course outscore them 7-0.

lol if you watched #16 all year you would know running backwards for huge losses is nothing new to him. He just can't seem to throw it away. Both teams played a great game. Dover came out on top. Northwest had its chances but didn't capitalize that is all there is to it.

And Dover is a better team... THAT'S all there is to it... ;)

Dover is the better team majority of the time. They just didn't play like it last night.
  • Dr. Ray Stantz
You're right we didn't, but fortunately for us your team wasn't firing on all cylinders either. I'm happy we won but I had a pit in my stomach the whole game, not because it was close but because I was expecting a great game but neither team was playing disciplined ball.
I feel for NW's players, neither team played without regrets but Dover gets to add at least 1 more week to their memories & the Indians' coaches and players are stuck with woulda coulda shoulda.

dover got lucky against northwest if they play like they did last night against big red they will get thumped...

I'm sure the Tornadoes know they will need to play better to be competitive with Steubenville. It is fortunate to come away with a "W" when you're not at your best - let's hope they learn from this.
