Campbell @ Struthers Week 1

Serious enough that Campbell cancelled the JV game saturday. If that says anything..reddevil90;1648618 wrote:Campbell will be alright. trust me on that. it was only the first game of the year. and i seen some things that peeked my interest. Campbell will get better each week. I just the injuries are not serious. -

Spread I doubt Campbell will play even one Jv game all year. Rozum wants to keep the limited numbers he has already and Jv games are just an injury risk with 37 guys.Spread All Day;1649265 wrote:Serious enough that Campbell cancelled the JV game saturday. If that says anything.. -

obviously you didn't see where I said, "struthers line is wearing down Campbell, bigger than I thought they were."Ohio;1649145 wrote:Now where's your stance on that? -

I tried to tell you...sonnyblack;1649372 wrote:obviously you didn't see where I said, "struthers line is wearing down Campbell, bigger than I thought they were." -
soupcitysoldierLots of sophomores and freshmen playing varsity. 2 injuries to linemen before Struthers game and Struthers called state on Friday to get two starters ruled in eligible for game. Numbers are thin at this point. No reason to play a JV game and risk them getting thinner.
-
soupcitysoldierIn reference to the game I predicted a 35-14 game. It was pretty much what I predicted and expected. Long way to go like I said, but rebuilding isn't for the shortsighted.
-
soupcitysoldierI checked out Brookfield on Friday. Not very good. Struthers should destroy them.
-

That's still 5 weeks away... but I never really bought into all the hype surrounding Brookfield.soupcitysoldier;1649444 wrote:I checked out Brookfield on Friday. Not very good. Struthers should destroy them.
Girard didn't look too impressive against Niles, either. Weeks 3 and 4 for Campbell look like they might not be as tough as everyone thought they'd be. Maybe Campbell steals one of those games?
How serious are the injuries for Campbell? A few kids were already in street clothes, and a few more left the game. -
BigDean1
Good luck to Struthers the rest of the season. Two of the kids in street clothes for Campbell at the Struthers game were declared ineligible until week 5 because of the residency rule. There is a rumor that people from Struthers had contacted the OHSAA earlier in the week about the two kids. One is a starting senior lineman. The other is a starting sophomore DB who is also our kicker. However, even if those two had suited up, the outcome would not have been any different. Struthers is just a superior team to Campbell at this point in time. Campbell is rebuilding with many young kids starting.BTrev;1649460 wrote:That's still 5 weeks away... but I never really bought into all the hype surrounding Brookfield.

I said that I thought Brookfield was overhyped coming into this season. I asked what you guys think Campbell's chances are of beating Girard or Brookfield. And I expressed sincere concern for the players who were injured.
Give me some credit... I wasn't trying to gloat, or rub it in. If I were, I'd be a Hell of a lot more direct about it.
If you want to be bitter because someone from Struthers may or may not have reported some things to the OHSAA that got 2 players ruled ineligible, that's fine. Knock yourself out. But I didn't call the OHSAA.
What is the residency rule? You mean this one?
OHSAA Bylaw 4-7-2
"The basic transfer bylaw is quite simple. If a student transfers at any time after the fifth day of the
student’s ninth grade year or after having established eligibility by playing in a contest (scrimmage,
preview/jamboree, Foundation game or regular season/tournament contests) until the one year anniversary of the
date or enrollment in the school to which the student transferred, the student shall be ineligible for all contests
(including all scrimmages, preview/jamboree/Foundation game) until after the first 50% of the maximum
allowable regular season contests in those sports in which the student participated during the twelve months
immediately preceding the transfer have been competed."

That rule? Instead of spreading rumors about Struthers telling on Campbell (I'm not saying it didn't happen... it very well may have), ask yourself why Campbell was trying to sneak them on the field to begin with.
I understand that Rozum has been away for a while, but it's not like this is an old rule that was in place 10 years ago. It's a brand new rule. He should've known better.
Say those 2 players do play in the first 5 games, then it comes out that they should have been ineligible. Any wins that Campbell had to that point would then have to be forfeited...

Who the heck is being bitter? I said it wouldn't have made a bit of damn difference whether those two kids were suited up or not. I stated Struthers was the superior team regardless. How in the heck is that being bitter? I believe this is something Coach Rozum was aware of. And he and his staff were waiting for the ruling to be made. Whatever rumors were drummed up were certainly not started by me. You asked me about kids in street clothes on the sideline. I responded with an answer. We will not know about the extent of the kids injured during the game until Wednesday. Struthers was the better team on Thursday................ by plenty. And they beat our asses. I've given your kids all the credit in the world for their victory. I believe I mentioned in at least two posts about how impressed I was with your young backfield. And I have wished Struthers all the best the rest of the way. Does that sound like I'm bitter? Coach Rozum is in the process of putting in his own system with his staff and way of doing things. These kids will have to work harder than they ever imagined to get back to respectability. Anyone with any sense (I am one of those) realized that Campbell's chances of beating Struthers, a program that is head and shoulders above Campbell's at this point of time, were slim to none. The few of us who posted that we had a chance were just speaking from loyalty and hopes. All of us in Campbell are aware of that. We are Campbell graduates. We want our kids to do well. Those of us who are aware of the state the program is in (I am one of those) are not expecting any quick fixes. We are are aware that this could and most likely will be a tough year for Campbell. Again, good luck to Struthers the rest of the season.BTrev;1649587 wrote:Doesn't address my previous post, but whatever.

When you quote my post, totally ignore the meat of what I had to say, and bring up rumors... you do seem a little bitter. Not about the loss, but about the players being ruled out.BigDean1;1649588 wrote:Who the heck is being bitter? southbender12Quick questions for the Campbell guys...I saw in the paper that Ben Phillips started and scored a touchdown for Liberty. I know he played at UHS last year and during the school year transferred home to Campbell and even played on the basketball team. Wouldn't that subject him to the new transfer rule that you guys mentioned above or did his family move to Liberty? He would have had to sit games if he were to play at Campbell but he is eligible to play at Liberty...doesn't seem quite fair.
-
Spread All Dayya this transfer rules makes 0 sense to me. The kids hubbard get in can play asap? their(qb) from liberty... doesnt really add up

I was told Phillips filed for some sort of "hardship" and was granted eligibility for the entire season at Liberty. I have no idea what that means.southbender12;1649646 wrote:Quick questions for the Campbell guys...I saw in the paper that Ben Phillips started and scored a touchdown for Liberty. soupcitysoldierIf you apply for the hardship you pretty much get it. Its like getting a sample of asian chicken at the food court. The only deterrent I think is you have to apply for it within a certain time frame. Some schools have this down to a science. Its pretty much a joke. Phillips was at three different schools within a year LOL. He played basketball at Campbell earlier this year LOLOLOL.
-
BigDean1
From my point of view a school's athletic director should be aware of the loopholes and different clauses in these transfer rules. How can a kid who was at three different schools within one year be playing football with no eligibility issue? The answer is the AD has done his job at Liberty. He has read the bylaws. Phillips filed for a hardship and is eligible.soupcitysoldier;1649694 wrote:If you apply for the hardship you pretty much get it. Its like getting a sample of asian chicken at the food court. soupcitysoldierWe have the most pathetic AD in the state. For him to think that two of our players were eligible is laughable, and then to assure the staff they were is the biggest joke. So to assume that our AD had vetted all eligibility requirements for Phillips would be a stretch. From what I hear, he still cant find the rule explaining why two kids were ineligible for the Struthers game! hahahahaha BTrev you looking for an AD job??? lol

reddevil90Campbell Has a ways to go. I knew we would not win. hell i secretly thought the score would have been higher. But they didn't give up. thats the thing i took away from this game. it will be a long road. just hope that they continue to play harder each week. it will work out. the system is something they are not use. to. Although i was shocked at how the playbook went.
-
southbender12you run what you know...I am not surprised at what they ran but I am surprised if anyone on their staff thinks they will have any success running that system at least in the next couple of years. But like so many of you mentioned, Coach Rozum is in it for the long term then they aren't making decisions for just this season. What would concern me is the mentality that he seems to be installing with those kids takes a lot of hard work and physical practices and you can't do that with 30 kids. You can't simulate that look with bags and walk throughs...No JV team is a huge problem too because now those second wave guys aren't getting any action. I mentioned on here that they would win 2-3 games because of what I knew they had coming back and I still think that is what they will end up with. Coach Rozum probably gives you a lot of positive things that don't show up in the win column so that is always something to take into consideration when evaluating a program. I watched South Range last week and they didn't look very good, except for Alessi, against a very pedestrian JFK team. If Campbell has trouble here then they will be 2-8...unless injuries cost them either Newton Falls or Champion but I think if they can line up 11 guys then they will beat at least Newton Falls.

Good post. The Campbell kids need to get tougher mentally and physically stronger before they can have a chance at consistent success. And to be honest, I have not seen that mental toughness and any improvement in physical strength since the 1999 seasons, which is the last season Coach Rozum was head coach before he returned for this season. Coach Rozum cannot risk having further injuries to any of his players. So playing jayvee games may not happen this season. It's not a good thing. But it is what it is. It would be great to find 10 more kids to come out for football, which would increase our numbers from 37 to 47. But if and when those 10 are found, they need to be tough kids, not kids who are just going to stand on the sidelines in football uniforms. For the time being, Campbell must play with the hand it's been dealt. Depth is often an issue at many smaller public schools. The key is staying healthy. Unfortunately that's not always the case. This season the injury bug has bitten Campbell early. Wins will be hard to come by this season for Campbell. But I for one was well aware of that long before the season started. Rozum would not have returned to coaching at Campbell if he did not believe that he could get the football program turned around. It may take a year or two.southbender12;1650460 wrote:you run what you know...I am not surprised at what they ran but I am surprised if anyone on their staff thinks they will have any success running that system at least in the next couple of years.
