The I.C. levy lost by 500 votes and will lose by more next time because of bad mouthing voters!! Edison merging with Big Red might be one of the most ridiculous things ive ever heard!!

It's ridiculous but it may be necessary. Why should Edison merge with a school system like Creek that's in as bad shape as Edison itself?

I can only imagine how much spare room there is at Big Red. When I was a student there in the 1960's, we had 1300 students. Since then the school has been enlarged but the student population is down to about 500. Of course, Harding was just built a few years ago and it's already too small. Perhaps Big Red could absorb 10-12 students from Edison and Creek and then share middle school responsibilities with the new Creek middle school.

Hard to tell what's going to happen. Only time will tell.

Rememeber how far away some of Edisons schools are!! Big Red also has an elementary school in its building, there is no room for another high school in there!!

Wow some great memories looking at that building!
7 yrs of schooling. Great playground and ball fields down at the lower level.
What a travesty they did to that area putting that hospital building there.
What a great place to grow up!

I didn't know about the elementary school.

I will make a prediction. Within five years, the Steubenville schools will be way too small for the number of students attending them. We will either get an influx of students from Creek and Edison, or the population of Steubenville will grow because of the gas shale, or both. We better start getting prepared now.

I think we have room The elementary school is on the bottom floor and now have a new gym a new commons area plus the swimming pool etc . What about the old gym and the old caffeteria? They could make more classroom space like they did a couple of years ago at Harding . We will prosper . We used to have 2,000 stunendts in the building . We might have half that counting the elementary school.
A few years from now we may need another school building I hope we do need more and more and more and more .

I can't help but wonder what the school situation will look like in the Steubenville area in a few years. I only know it will be very different from what it is now. And I also have to wonder what the Creek and Edison problems will do to Steubenville. I guess we'll just have to wait and find out.

Im hoping for IC to fail . they have been wanting to take over the entire area for decades . Why do you think they put Hills school where it is and the new JR high . Its just outside Steubenville. Luckily for us they are mismanaged . They just keep asking for more and more money all the time .. Shoot I wouldnt want my house taxes raised every two stinking years . You have to remember the residents have to pay for other things as well . The state needs to come in and take over . Steubenville needs to incorporate all of the west end into our district as well as 213 area . I want to put those poachers out of business by tomarrow. lol

As for another levy, forget it. Too many old focks and db's.
You don't have to be an "old Folk" to vote down those levies out there. We in mingo will never vote for one of their levies until there is evidence that the monies will be spent with purpose in mind and not to enhance salaries and positions. Besides, there is the middle school levy to pay for and people here still remember how Wintersville sucked up the tax income from Wheeling Pitt. Now that there is no mill, they find themselves in an awkward position.
On the matter of merging with Steubenville, Steubenville has the room and there are two main arteries of transportation: four lane routes 22 and 7.
And if the state steps in, I.C. people will not have any say in the matter.

Check out all the empty property Steubenville has surrounding the school.

I don't understand how anyone can vote yes for the levy until they clean house on the school board. These morons cry and whine every couple of years because they want more money to waste on their misguided ideas of how to run a district. We hear that the building is over 80 years old and kids should not have to attend a school that old, but you need to understand that there are many schools that are about the same age in the state. I think Steubenville was built around 1940 and they don't seem to have a problem with the academics or the building, I wonder why?
