Nothing new here. -
FlashThe two proposals both fell thru and were right where we started from. Status quo at least the next year.
-
1486wdjust ot of curiosity - what were the proposals ?
-
BRFI think we should look into joining the WCAL.

THE4RINGZYes all three teams mentioned in the OP should join the WCAL, not.

Yea short drive times, natural rivaries, and mostly competitive atmosphere would be terrible.THE4RINGZ;1099939 wrote:Yes all three teams mentioned in the OP should join the WCAL, not. -
Flash1486, 1.) Stay in OCC and make East and West divisions and add schools like NW and Cloverleaf to the East division and play a couple cross over games.
2.) New league with Orr, Woo, WH, NW, Dover, New Philly and Cloverleaf. -

Wooster and West Holmes best current fit is the OCC.THE4RINGZ;1099939 wrote:Yes all three teams mentioned in the OP should join the WCAL, not.
But Orrville and Triway both would fit right in and make an already great league better. -

The only way that I think this works is to then create a Big school/Small School style division within the conference.iced earth;1100406 wrote:Wooster and West Holmes best current fit is the OCC.

I just don't see the current members of the WCAL approving Orrville and Triway (because I assume it would need to be unanimous) as new members and there is no way they want to stir up a league into divisions. Especially a league that has been around for so long and has member schools that are happy with what they have.
You know the old saying..If its not broke, don't fix it!
The WCAL is fine the way it is. -

Due to the newly instituted probationary WCAL period, thats 9 years away!BRF;1099662 wrote:I think we should look into joining the WCAL. -
elitesmithie05From a current WCAL perspective I don't see why this wouldn't be good to pursue. We always wanted to play Orrville and Triway growing up(did some). If they are truly better(they may be) it will raise the level of the entire league. Too many natural rivalries to ignore especially with the current economy making it a pain for travel etc.
-
1486wdAgree with all you said elitesmithie, but it's still pretty dangerous to tinker with a league that's in as good a place as the wcl is. I doubt you can find another league with this kind of stability, close proximity, and relative closeness of athletic ability and success. 8 teams is also the perfect size to play everyone each year and have a good number of nonconf games.

The question though..Would Rittman, Chippewa, Northwestern, Dalton, and Hillsdale want to play Orrville every year in Football?? I doubt it.elitesmithie05;1102742 wrote:From a current WCAL perspective I don't see why this wouldn't be good to pursue. We always wanted to play Orrville and Triway growing up(did some). I think Smithville, Waynedale, and Norwayne (because of recent success..we will see if that lasts) would welcome the challenge openly. -
riders1I think overall, at best it would resemble the Orrville vs Triway "football rivalry" over the years
-
iced earthYou guys talk like you are St. Iggys or something....truth is you have 1 title, and if the OHSAA used instant replay you wouldn't have that!
Would you guys win the league in football often? yes you would....but the WCAL has never been very balanced in football anyways. Despite Hillsdale and Norwaynes recent success, Dalton, Waynedale, and Smithville have won about 90% of the titles in league history.
In every other sport the competition is fine for you guys.
Less travel expense
Larger average gates
Kids get home at reasonable times on school nights -
1486wdwhat makes you think the bulldogs would want no part of orrville? They are used to playing up (and have not played anyone in their own division in years outside of playoffs.) Dalton has won as many league titles and made the playoffs as often as anyone (smithies and bears included). I also think that norwayne, northwestern, hillsdale would compete well with orrville most years, although like was mentioned above it remains to be seen if the others can sustain success like the bears, dawgs, smithies have done for the last half century. Orrville's history is phenomenal and I think they would definitely be one of the favorites almost every year - but I don't think they would win it every year.

elitesmithie05Our girls basketball team would like it haha

BRFLooks like I'm right. We SHOULD look into joining the WCAL. Most are appearing to welcome it.

In light of the recent State Championships in the WCAL over the last 4 months....Im not sure Orrville would help our SOS. You may not be able to compete!riders1;1105294 wrote:They do play football? -

No one has been invited yet, thus the speculative nature of this thread.
