Power I will create some creases I know its not fancy and collage like, but maybe give it a try. Jamr lets don't bring up the spread our qb leads the area int's and we tried that one year remember pumped up this senior to be with a rocket arm, think the kid got one things didn't go his way, al qb's have a bad game once in awhile, just ask the Browns. Well after this bad game the spread was scraped and this rocket arm qb stood one the sidelines for the rest of the year, I hope aleast the coaching staff thanked him for the work he put in that summer before. -

I said we tried the spread a couple years ago and it was scraped after one game, so are you saying this coaching staff is in the wrong offense?Jmar25;1273820 wrote:I didn't say you had to pass out of it... but talk to any coach... you have a weak line with no push... you run spread over a power scheme. It is a technique/position blocking system. Power requires power up front. (Cough Cough TRIWAY Cough Cough)
You don't have to throw it 30 times. That is the coach's discretion. Look at our beloved Buckeye Coach.... Would you call Urban Meyer's O a running or passing O? I mean... he made Tim Tebow look like the messiah with a spread offense.... we know he can't pass worth a damn. -

I appreciate your respect. I honestly didn't try to come across like they would help, just tried to analize a few posts and shed light on what i "think" i know about some of the kids mentioned. Like I said...LOL I KNOW Dakota wouldn't contribute, he simply doesn't care for football.Havin Fun;1273788 wrote:Beast - I respect the heck out of you and your opinions. But I go back to the question, which one of those kids listed would help out on our Offensive or Defensive lines? Would either of the Nelson boys take Josh's palce in the backfield? Would Ludeman play over anyone at a skill position? He has been hurt several times playing soccer. Lorenze made the move to soccer because he has played it since he could walk. The kicker we have now is 3/3 on extra points. Not sure how a better kicker would help when we simply can't run the football. Each game we have been over matched by bigger lines that are simply better than our lines. Norwayne and Hillsdale have good skill players but they are not that much better than the players the Bears have. The Falcons and Bobcats have just been blessed with huge kids during this era. This will pass and it will be our turn again to win a title.
Correct me if I am wrong but the Bears I think are the only team outside of Norwayne and Hillsdale to have a win against every league team in the last 3 years.
Good night. -
Havin FunI said it was the O and D lines. They are undersized compared to their opponents. I never said they were not trying. They are simply outmanned going up against bigger and stronger kids. We just have small kids right now.

No. I said that if they were to switch as you suggest... That last thing they would want to go to is a power offense. Makes no sense at all really. Need power to run power.eyes r burning;1273826 wrote:I said we tried the spread a couple years ago and it was scraped after one game, so are you saying this coaching staff is in the wrong offense? -

I'm confused don't you already have two studs in the backfield, think thier names are the same and a Antwan on the permeter, so when the younger two don't seceed are we still going the lay all the blame on the linemen, scrape the system cowboy!wcalfan;1273797 wrote:Hmmmmm...your identity is slowing starting to take shape. You have a young dog in the fight don't you? Or you are close to a situation?
What kind of adjustments/adapting are all of these other coaches making? Are you around this program/school on a daily basis? Do you ever see the things that Coach Z does for these kids off of the football field? How many times he gets up in the wee hours of the morning to give a ride to ANY kid that asks to go to lifting workouts. You should see the things he does with them as an assistant on the bball team. Have you ever notice any of that? Or do you listen to the fence huggers? The majority of these kids don't respect any of these coaches. That is the problem here...can't you see that. When the going gets tough, our kids/parents make excuses.
"Decisions have been made to spread all the freshman out and put Reibe in as quarterback over Strausbaugh #2? Has the death of the freshman class already begun?" What does that mean? I have been to a few jv/freshman games and I thought Reibe has done a good job. He has got a good arm and is a good leader. Am I wrong? I am sure he, along with his dad, will tell you he isn't the best athlete in that group by any means but he doesn't seem to do anything stupid. Call me a moron, which I probably am, but I have to believe that "Strausbaugh #2" and "Stanley #2" are going to be the horses of this program for the next 3 years. Why not get them both ready now? Those 2 studs in the backfield will be fun to watch in the future. Then you add Antwan on the perimeter? Wow, that could be interesting. -
eyes r burningDone posting wcalfn, I will check back with you in a couple years (if may health allows me) and see where you laying the blame, and see if its still the parents and kids getting soft or its the linemen or they just quit, best wishes!

Not take anything away from the older brothers, but the 2 younger ones are a notch better than they were at this age. It really isn't even close. I seriously doubt we will run a spread offense with those 2 in the backfield and Reibe at qb. It will be a more "power" approach, which should make you happy. However, it still hinges on the development of a good line up front. You just never know.....eyes r burning;1273844 wrote:I'm confused don't you already have two studs in the backfield, think thier names are the same and a Antwan on the permeter, so when the younger two don't seceed are we still going the lay all the blame on the linemen, scrape the system cowboy! -

You asked for someone to name 5 impact players. Correct? I named 10 athletes, and then you change the rules to "linemen". Which is it, 5 impact players, that you doubt there is 1 or 2, or is it linemen? Make up your mind.Havin Fun;1273675 wrote:For all those who feel the coach is the issue in Apple Creek, I must respectfully disagree 100%. Matt Zuercher is a fine person first and a good coach second. The numbers are down because quite frankly, these few classes, sr, jr, soph, are not that great at athletics. With the exception of some good basketball players, they have not ever won at anything but wrestling. Is that the football coaches problem? Same goes for the sr girls. Not one senior on the volleyball team. One on the basketball team. A few play soccer.
This happens at small schools and goes in cycles.
Someone needs to name five impact players who are not in the football program that would make this team .500 or better? I can't think of more than 1, maybe 2 boys.
Things will get better and when they do, will Coach Z be the hero? -

Add that to losses by Copley and Triway and we end up in the same boat. We need to revamp our offense and figure out a way these next 4 weeks to keep other teams' offense off the field or we will get run over by these next 4. If you think its been bad so far if we copntinue to play like this we will be blown out. Lexington in my opinion was the worst team we played so far. I thought not even as good as NW. No reason for losing 30-8 against them. For D2 they didnt have size or speed. Put Zook back at RB and mix up some plays and get some first downs and make it respectable. If not we will lose as bad as Rittman did last week to Norwayne!Old Rider;1273313 wrote:I agree!Red Rider Nation;1273323 wrote:2 Clearfork scout guys sat right behind me at the Lex game and several times they referenced Orrville's offense as very simple and easy to defend. We have the pieces in place to run the option. It would work with short at qb , I know he's small but it would work. Maybe our coaching staff doesn't know how to install it. Devault seems unwilling to change anything. A good coach wins by adapting to the type of players he has. Devault never changes despite not having the offense to score points regularly. He should build the offense around the type of players he has, not forcing them to run the same formations and plays over and over again. A good coach can win with mediocre talent, we will see how good Devault is this season. I honestly do not think we will win another game this year. Possibly clearfork but I don't think that will happen either.rrfan;1273370 wrote:You want to go to an option offense with a 120lb quarter back? Great idea. Maybe the real problem is not the coaches it is the players! They are what they are. There is no game changers on this team and the O-line is bad.
Old Rider- Have the team put on there big boy pants and get there job done. I don't want to be in the WCAL or any of that other crap. If you see some of these kids (some of) the day after the game you would have thought they won. Get your butt in the weight room do some real work and get better. You can not trot out on the field on Friday night and win becasue you are the Riders. That is earned and it always has been.sanitizer;1273394 wrote:This seems like a sour year for sure (at least so far). Old Rider you may have a point but even when we couldn't get in a conference we always played bigger schools. Sometimes it really helped and some years it hurt but it always seemed to even out over time.
Players, playmakers, and teams seem to move in cycles sometimes in small towns like ours. Perhaps this is a year where we are gonna have to really fight to win 4 or 5 games. Really doesn't mean we have bad kids, lazy kids or poor coaching... They just may not be good enough this year? I find humility in living outside the community and seeing it from a distance now. What I mean is we have become so accustom to winning in Orrville that our vision can get blurred to the lessons these young men are (should be) learning on the field. Looks like it could be a tough year for the Red Riders. My hope is they stay the course and keep putting in the effort on Friday night. Sometimes in life you can put all you have into something and it just doesn't always work out. Good luck Riders!Old Rider;1273422 wrote:The problem is we run a "zone blocking" scheme. We don't cut block, pull, or angle hardly at all anymore. And yes...we may not win another game this year!Old Rider;1273425 wrote:Thats just it...we have a handful of kids that have put in that extra time and others that go through the motions. It is definatley EARNED!jaco;1273485 wrote:I think you're describing every football program I've seen this year! You have a handful of kids who are "hardcore" and then a bunch who enjoy wearing jerseys and hanging out with their buddies on Friday night. Which ever may be the case, though, I'd always urge people to not take their frustrations out on the kids. They aren't pros. Nobody takes the field intending on making mistakes. I respect any boy who goes through August two-a-days instead of choosing to sit on his butt at home playing xbox. And believe me, there are plenty of those.RedRider1;1273508 wrote:Yep. This is the down side of a tradition rich program. You want to achieve as much as every team before you...and sometimes its just not in the cards....but that doesn't point to a lack of effort.
I dont like losing anymore than the next fan, but keep it in perspective. There's nothing that any of us can yell from the cheap seats on Friday nights that will change anything.
Next Booster club meeting is October 1st (Monday) at the high school. Coach Davault attends every one of those and I'm sure would appreciate questions and feedback...positive or negative.
Looks like Orrville fans are having the same conversation. Win you're a hero, lose you're a zero.Red Rider Nation;1273813 wrote:I just think we need to create an offense around our strengths and not to exploit our weaknesses. We have run the same offense for the last 7 years and it does NOT work. We ran the same offense with a bunch of talent that we do this year with less talent. Short can do some great things just like Turner last year but we cannot find a way to get playmakers the ball. I just dont get it. And please please please for heaven's sake get rid of running plays in and out with the kids. Use signals like every other high school team in America. -
iced earthAlthough I think Z is a below average X's and O's coach...He simply doesn't have any real talent on this roster. Only 1 or 2 current players would of ever seen the field on past quality Bear teams. It is what it is...

Read my post carefully. Which of those kids you named is an impact player???? Which one would make this team 1-3 or 2-2???? Not one. In fact, I can't think of a one with the exception of the kicker, who would start ahead of anyone in the current lineup. An impact player is someone who makes a difference. None of those kids would do that. We don't need anymore 140 pounders. We need 200-250 pound linemen to protect the QB, open holes for the runners, make tackles at the line of scrimmage, pressure the QB, etc. The next two games will show how short-handed we are in those areas and how blessed some other schools are with size right now.ghostrider;1273863 wrote:You asked for someone to name 5 impact players. GoBearzMy son played for Coach Zuercher on a playoff teams and a team with not so good of a record. I can tell you this. Coach Z did not act or behave differently from year to year. He simply did not have enough talent to win the one year. My son learned more from Matt Zuercher on what it take to succeed and how a young man should live his life than from any other person he came in contact with in jr. high or high school. For that we will always be grateful. Looking back, these lessons had nothing to do with W's or L's but in how you respond to each of them. Life will knock you on your rear-end. It won't always be a "winning season". Coach Z is trying to get these kids ready for life. Real life. Some kids realize this and will push on. Others give up because the road is too hard.

Well its simple for them... they don't have any kids who run a 4.5... they all run 4.6's. They just don't produce them like they used to at the football factory anymore....1_beast;1273872 wrote:Looks like Orrville fans are having the same conversation. Win you're a hero, lose you're a zero. -

Glad to see someone gets it.
It's only one year. And they have some darn good athletes on their team - including probably one of the best WR's in the county (right next to Berger). However, as a team, they don't seem to have the intangibles as teams in the past. Same QB, and several other return players, but drastically different results. Senior leadership and attitude in the locker room can play a big part to how the season goes. One can only speculate. It's odd, though, that Coach Davault said this team has been one of his hardest-working ever. Makes me wonder if he/they was/were compensating for something?Jmar25;1273957 wrote:Well its simple for them... they don't have any kids who run a 4.5... they all run 4.6's.
