New Northern 10 League

  • Go Falcons
I just learned that Bucyrus, Buckeye Central, Colonel Crawford, Crestline, Riverdale, Wynford, Senaca East, Carey,Mohawk, and Ridgedale have formed a new league.

    Thoughts?

    A few questions:
    1. Will this be for all sports?
    2. With 10 teams, will it be divided into divisions, or one large conference?
    3. If divided, will there be a league championship game? If so, which sports?
    4. If divided, will cross-division (inter-division) games count as league games?
    5. Will it be called "Northern 10 League" (NTL)? Will it be called "Northern 10 Conference" (NTC)? Is the word "Ten" spelled out?
    6. When will the Wikipedia entry be available?
  • Red Rum
I wonder what happened? It doesn't appear to have shaved off travel time.
It looks to me like they kicked the D4 football schools out.

Does anybody know the story on this?

They should take a page out of the big 10, (B1G), and call it the N1C.

    4. NA
    5. Northern 10 Athletic Conference
    6. Get it started.

The title of this article is misleading. The NCC has made no decision to disband. In fact, the NCC has been in talks with several schools about joining the NCC.

Upper and Galion were admitted with the understanding that they would go 6 big and 6 small schools divisional. Upper and Galion rejected the idea of Willard being admitted. The other school decided that Upper and Galion were not in their best interest and left them along with Ontario who was too big for the rest of the small schools. Lucas really never made sense for the league except for size. Upper and Galion will now be screwed. Ontario might be asked join the NOL, they need an 8th team.

Wynford, I really lost a lot of respect for them. They orchestrated this whole deal. It seems they have a problem with Ontario and they wanted Lucas out of the league. They want, as I was told, to be in a conference that will allow them to set the national record for regular season wins in football. Maybe they felt threatened by Galion and Upper? I don't know. Bucyrus was only included after they threatened Wynford that they would never play them again, as a non-conference opponent, in any sport......period.

A lot of folks from the NCC fan bases are smiling today after seeing Wynford get waxed by Kirtland last week and BC get it handed to them by Marion Local today.

Source? This sounds like hogwash. They sure as hell wouldn't be afraid of Upper.

Someone affliliated with a school still with the NCC. I don't doubt his words. If you live in this area, it's not a big secret that Wynford led the way to the break up of the NCC.

These schools, led by Wynford, signed off on this big school/small school division format that allowed Galion and Upper Sandusky to leave the NOL to join this year. Now after one season, these same schools are now unhappy and want out? Didn't they realize what they signed up for? A lot of BS, a lot of it. Bucyrus was not originally part of this new conference and suddenly they are? Think about what I said earlier. Wynford is a cross town rival and needs them on their schedule, in the future, and Bucyrus forced their hand.

Wynford is actually more afraid of Ontario, more than anyone.
  • Sonofanump
I hear Wynford got CC & BC on board and the three of them led the charge.
  • WebFire
And why would Wynford be afraid of Ontario. They certainly are no threat on the field.
  • GoJPM!
Like I said, Wynford orchestrated this chain of events. They needed to get a couple other conference schools on board to make it work. Ontario is a threat to them in most sports and football might be next. Wynford, from what I was told, their cupboard is beginning to get a little bare in football. They don't want to play these DIV schools because instead of going 10-0, 9-1 every year, they may be looking at 5-5, 6-4. This new conference gives them a better chance to rule the roost.
  • WebFire
Ontario? They just instituted pay-to-play. Their jr high team wasn't very good and not many kids.

And the NCC is not a hard league. I don't buy that they wanted to leave for your reasons.
  • GoJPM!
They use school sizes and travel as reasons but that is BS and everyone around here knows it. Wynford was never afraid of these big schools when they were waxing them 56-0, 47-7 in football but now they are willing to give up those computer points for beating those bigger schools? The competitve balance of the league was shifting before their eyes and they got scared. I doubt you are from around here.
  • WebFire
Please explain the competitive balance of the league changing. The only shift would be Galion being in the league. Nothing else changed. I am about 35 minutes from Bucyrus. My school plays in the NCC. I played and coached in the NCC.

Carey and Mohawk will give me Wynford more trouble year in and year out then anyone in the NCC has or will.
  • WebFire
Galion was the only regular-season game that was close for Wynford, and they won. Ontario was 8-2 this year, a great year for them. And Wynford still beat them handily.
  • GoJPM!
The bigger schools are going to have the advantage, in the long run, pay-to-play or not. Those things don't last forever and don't automatically mean you are going to suck. Sports programs and boosters find a way to get money for their kids, if they can't get any from school funds or via a levy.

Are you from a school still currently with the NCC or one of the schools heading to the new conference? I'm ten minutes from one NCC school, that is looking now since they believe they are the odd man out in all of this. Another NCC team is about 20 minutes from me. There was talk a couple of months ago of getting Clear Fork to join, then Shelby to join the OCC, to take their place, but that is not going to happen now. Don't think that was ever a realistic scenario anyways. There is also talk of Loudonville, since I think their conference is disbanding, too. A lot of speculation around here but most think the NCC is dead now. Galion and Upper are the ones who got screwed royally in this deal. They would have been better off to stay in the NOL.

Those on the NOSF forum have another name for what happened.

I thought that they were too small.

Riverdale, heading to new conference. I don't doubt that Wynford helped lead the way...others have said that as well. I just don't think it is for the reasons you stated.
  • GoJPM!
Who proposed it or approached who then, if not Wynford?

I remember a time when schools in the NCC wanted to force Riverdale out. They were the one school that made no geographical sense.

Which, honestly, is one of 2 reasons why this league is a win for Riverdale.
