Wallace will be the "X" factor in this game

Made in home from the Big City Safely....had Dairy Queen for lunch...ALMOST took 5knots a Blizzard....but I thought after that little math quiz....he might try to tackle me....at which point I would gave him a stiff arm and a side step and took the Blizzard to THE HOUSE!!!! :D

Lets look at the rest of D4.

Although I think the Division is up for grabs, the favorites to win it all in my opinion come out of R14.

    Columbus Bishop Hartley & Kenton.

#3 seed Hartley is the defending champ and have been looking more and more dominant as the season has progressed. They've female dog smacked some good teams in October (Coshocton & Ironton) not to mention taking care of business in round 1 of the playoffs (42-14 over #6 North Union)

#1 seed Kenton has all world QB Mauk and that 5 wide offense that most teams don't often see, so they are difficult to prepare for.

I would place these two as the favorites but anything can happen.

As far as this Saturdays game...my WCAL heart is with Norwayne but my money is on Orrville.
As good as Mauk is..and he seems to be a dandy. A Maty Mauk led team has yet to even get of regionals. I see that trend continue. He has had gaudy numbers for years now but that has not translated to playoff success. In fact teams that sling the ball around don't fare well in State title games either. I will be surprised to see Kenton win region 14 and the only thing I am basing that on is history and a gut feeling. Both Hartely and Kenton have battled a tough schedule this year very well.

Speaking of stiff arms beast, we saw a dandy here in the 'ville Saturday night...it did not however involve any sidestep for sure...lol.

Orrville has faced three very good dual threat QB's and offenses this year. I would say comparable to Adam Wallace.
Copley with Gigliotti and Argeros Turner (offers from Illinois and Tennessee) and Orville gave up 7 in Regulation
Ashland with an offense that Averaged 45 a game and we gave up 14
Wooster with Daugherty and Anderson and we gave up 7 in regulation.

So for this to occur I guess you are figuring on a shutout of the Riders this week. Not an impossible task. Teams have accomplished this before. But this is a pretty bold statement and I'm just thinking here....Just wondering how many times this year you have faced a team with a guy who runs 4.3 and has a vertical of 35+ inches and State medalist in multiple events on the track? How many backs your Defense has had to tackle who runs a 4.5 and is 220lbs and can rep 225lb bench press 19 times...or how many kids you face who have been so athletically gifted they can just step in when needed at QB and lead an offense to average 44 a game, who is also a multiple state medalist on the track. just thinking out loud here....

Orrville has their work cut out for them this week. No doubt about it. Just like week 12 should be. have to limit the big plays and mistakes. Teams that can do this will win in the playoffs. I don't care if it is by 1 point... just win baby.
I am just wondering if your guy who runs the timers is on crack. I don't believe for one second that you have anyone that runs a 4.3. Come on guys at least be real about it. don't try and beef up stats. Seriously it is high school football, I love it too. but keep it real.

Stu turner posted a 4.3 something at toledo's camp thus summer. Wasn't our watches or coaches although he has ran similar times many instances here.
  • 5knots
Mason was 4.61 at OSU on turf. I believe Wallace ran mid to hi 4.6 that day. 4.50 was a month later on a track. Zook's speed is approaching that of Turner.

I like Orrville in this one....have Monheim spy Wallace. I doubt he will bounce off. If Orrville can keep someone all over Wallace, they will stop the broken plays from being turned into first downs and touchdowns.

Norwayne lives and dies on Wallaces legs and arm. The Bobcats have good RBs & WRs but Wallace is the key, take him out of his game and Norwayne becomes much easier to defend.

Norwaynes key to the upset is play really, really good defense and hope Wallace gets time on "O" to work his magic.

Hey Miyagi....Looks like those Orrville fans in Pitmans "Blackout" picture starred in your last "Home Movie".

Oh...and I don't care what the computer guys say....Norwayne is an underdog in this one.

Sorry 5knots but "thus" has to be an error. A 4.3 something( was it 4.3+.2 or maybe 4.3+.3) or at least something like that. Just saying that I don't believe it. Good luck to both teams this weekend, all I will say is GO Wayne County.

O-Trap;955449 wrote:Also, I'd like to point out that the fastest 40 time EVER at an NFL combine was Chris Johnson's 4.24 seconds. So you're telling me that a D5 high school's football team has a WR whose 40 time is only a quarter of a second slower than Chris Johnson's 40 time, the fastest in the history of the NFL combine?

A quarter of a second is a lot of time between like athletes (ie two people looking to enter the draft). It's unrealistically minute when it's between an NFL first-round RB setting a speed record and a D5 high school WR.

Current starting NFL running back Ryan Matthews ran it in 4.45 seconds.
Browns RB Montario Hardesty was a 4.49.
    Ben Tate ran a 4.43.
RB James Starks ran a 4.5. This WR from Wynford is as fast as James Starks?
    Dexter McCluster ran a 4.57.

These are all RBs from the 2010 combine, and all of them either start, or they see plenty of time in the NFL.

So either Wynford is chock full o' NFL-quality speed or someone doing the stopwatch owes the team a favor.

And for what it's worth, I doubt anyone on Smithville runs anything faster than a 4.7 40-yarder.
just a post from another thread with interesting facts regarding speed.

EDIT: Dan "BOOM" Herron clocked at 4.50+ in the 40-yard dash coming out of High School.

    Brandon Saine 40 time... 4.43

Let's say then that it is a 4.4....it's still really fast. I am going by memory on this and all I know is that every MAC coach was talking about it when news got out. I thought I remembered he pulled off a 4.3 something though...if anyone else has a better memory, I defer.
  • OQB
There's a difference with 40 speed and game speed....I don't put much stock in the 40 times for the fact that you can't accurately determine with a stopwatch. Turner is the fastest player on the field every Friday/Saturday night.....nobody needs a stopwatch to see that.

Both teams will be flying around the field Saturday night and both teams will be tested to the limit.
  • 5knots
    ^^I agree with that

Beast, I know the staff here tries real hard when we do our assessments throughout the winter/spring/summer to be accurate. It does no good for your credibility as a coach or program to tell a college that a kid is 6'3" and 245 lb and runs a 4.6 if he shows up at their camp and is 6'2" 220 and runs a 4.75. They won't believe anything you tell them from that point on. We do 40's, vertical jump, broad jump, shuttle, # of 225lb bench reps.
I believe this is done after every 8 week session of lifting/agility program...except the 40 time in the winter when they use a 20 yard indoor time. I understand what you mean about throwing numbers out there.
  • 1_beast
I cannot deny your numbers or challenge your stats, i can only state the obvious, of whisch i can support with facts. I do know that you have a very fast team and I do know that Stu is a burner. I certainly didnt challenge your credentials or times...i simply posted comparable stats. This shows the level your team is performing.

Orrville staff has done a very nice job of getting College looks and letters for your boys!

I don't really understand the meaning behind this, if this is indeed true....Both sides are pretty big, with the home side having the most seats. Plenty of seating for both schools though. We sat on the visitor side both times we played at Medina last postseason, but we were the away team for both games.
    Home side

    Visitors side

Maybe RedRider1 could look into this....

Add this too, Bob Griswold from the nationally syndicated radio program, "The Bob and Tom Show" is an alum of University School.

    Correction:

They won 2 state titles with Ben Mauk 2001 and 2002 , and then was runner-up with I believe a kid named Davis in 2003

I was at all three of those games, they run a very interesting/exciting offense.
  • Riderfan17
Espn tweeted a video today of Maty Mauk throwing a 65 yard touchdown. Perfect throw but had all the time in the world to set
