Grove City Christian Offseason Football Thread

SquirmydogHorizon Science is a Charter school in Cincinnati. OHSAA is in error. They were 0-10 last year and will probably be 1-9ish in 2010. AD was having a hard time finding a home game for week 5, and this game dropped in his lap. It frees up week 3 for an away game against a better team (Shadyside?)(John Hay?)(Linsly?). Rumor has it Shadyside and GCC are close to an agreement. The top teams on the schedule are good. Danville, Rosecrans and Shadyside(?) will all compete for the playoffs. Mid Tier teams, will be Dayton Jefferson, Troy Christian and Fairfield Christian, who I think will be improved in 2010. Those teams will be in the 4-6 to 5-5 range. The bottom 4 team are a concern and may win 4 games total. Not many 2nd level points there. Fayetteville-Perry is new. Marion Catholic had 2 good players last season and they are gone. Cincinnati Christian is young but their schedule might allow for 3 wins and Horizon might, might win 1 game.

What, so you can scout the teams? If both teams are 2-0 going in to this game, then the winner would have to be looked to as a favorite to win R23. That could be a challenge with GCC opening at an improved Danville and Shadyside playing a tough Monroe Central team.nc52 wrote: bring that game to newark. NC will be at Fisher Catholic that weekend
I personally would like to see GCC play a game at Newark Catholic. NC has to be looked at as THE favorite to win R23 if they make the playoffs. I can tell you the lesson has been learned from the Norwalk St Paul game. The weightroom is full and the kids are focused. They know they won't sneak up on anyone this year and teams will be gunning for them. I am looking foward to the Shadyside game. I hope things get worked out. They are a class group of kids and a great group of fans. -
bloozebrotherthanks for the kind words dog and the feelings are mutual. trying to stay on top of the progress of talks between our two schools. nothing new as of last night but hopefully.... can only be good if we play. i also agree the winner of this game can be looked as one of the favorites R23. of course bridgeport and columbiana will also have something to say....
-
SquirmydogIts scary what those two schools have coming back. That's why I used the phrase "a favorite". I'll tell you though, I cannot understate how valuable the Norwalk St Paul game, and the success from last season in general, was to the psyche of the team. The kids understand what the next level looks like and what it takes to get there. The energy level is completely different. I can't explain it, but the vibe is different.
I have watched the playoff game between our schools several times, and I think the game was a lot closer than the score indicated. The key is getting Kimble replaced. I can see where the play calling might change a little in 2010. What are your thoughts on this? -
bloozebrotherwe've always have had a wide open offense and i really cant see that changing. but with sedinger(5'10" 190lb.) and marling(6'1" 220lb.) returning we could invest more into our running attack. as i posted before, we have qbs that can throw but need time to develope their ability to improvise. your also right about replacing kimble, not only as qb but as an all around athlete. play calling will also depend if bonar returns as OC.
-
bloozebrotherGCC also has a large portion of their skill players returning right?
-
SquirmydogYes. They lost a lot of talent with the seniors who started the program. However, coach did a great job of developing the players behind them. Luke Smurthwaite is the new quartback. He started the playoff game against Shadyside when Bowman was out and had a lot of playing time during the season. The rb will be by committee. The wr group and te have a lot of experience. The enitre secondary is back and should be one of the top 2 or 3 in the state, led by 1st team All-Ohio Connor Lucas.
-
bloozebrotheri guess it helps us in the fact we only had 9 seniors, 5 of which played. a lot of underclassmen got a lot of playing time. we changed our offense as per defenses dictated. we ran a pro style offense along with the old wing T. we have a tough schedule which i hope like last year will get us into the playoffs. i also believe both bridgeport and columbiana have a bunch returning. by the way dog, thanks for the conversation. it sure is fun discussing high school football in february.
-
SquirmydogNo problem. We should get Bridgeport2001 and some of the other R23 huddlers and expand this conversation in the Region 23 thread. I think R23 will be extremely interesting and wide open this year.
-
bloozebrotherif they play the make up basketball game tonight, i should see the AD and get some updates. i really dont think he wants to go much longer on scheduling. wheeling central still has the two open dates but i dont think they'll hold them if they have opportunity to schedule. the R23 thread hasn't got much response lately so i'm not sure how many teams were represented.

I talked to our AD today. He didn't say much, except talks are ongoing. What did you find out?bloozebrother wrote: if they play the make up basketball game tonight, i should see the AD and get some updates. i really dont think he wants to go much longer on scheduling. wheeling central still has the two open dates but i dont think they'll hold them if they have opportunity to schedule. the R23 thread hasn't got much response lately so i'm not sure how many teams were represented. -

nc52GCC should be 8-2 at worst, with that schedule
-
SquirmydogLet us hope. Its a long time until fall and if everyone stays you could be right. Tuition never makes it easy.
-
nc52your jv team should beat most of them schools
-
SquirmydogJoining a strong league should help with the schedule.
-
SquirmydogIt is interesting to guess who will fill the week 3 game now that Shadyside is not in the picture.
-
nc52what happened to the shadyside game?
-
SquirmydogToo many hoops to jump through. Harrison Central is going to be a bigger challenge, but they are closer geographically. Our leadership has to start over. Its a little late. Finding a competetive opponent will be a challenge. I hope they can schedule a game that will help in the Harbins. btw- the Godz rule! Are they still playing anywhere?
