Week 8: Campbell Memorial (5-2) at Girard (7-0)

  • reddevil90
If Campbell comes out like they have been with the acceptation of last week we are cooked. If Campbell comes out and the coaches open up the playbook that we always hear about and execute. We can take it to Girard. Girard has not played a Real quality opponent yet other then Hubbard. The coaches have the kids to beat Girard. But do the coaches have the guts to allow Reyes to throw and someone other then Ja'les to get the glory. Unless Girard still cant stop Ja'les. This game is the most important game in 20 years in my book. We will need to have the attitude of the great teams before them and the plays that work. Have faith. I have said this many many times this group is talented beyond anything we have seen on the field in a very long time. Oldschool summed it up very nicely.

This should be more incentive for Campbell. We are getting little respect. My guess is the Vindy Blitz on Friday will have Girard being picked by everyone. That's okay. We should be the underdog. The kids should like being the underdog in this game.

oldschools post should be read everyday this week to these kids by the coaching staff. it sums everything up. bottomline a share of a conference title and a playoff berth are still at stake....

Guess who all 10 media members who pick the games for The Tribune selected..............yep GIRARD.

I wonder one thing tonight and it's the most important thing. It doesn't matter what I think. it doesn't matter what Bigdean thinks. It doesn't matter what Calpreps says or all 20 prominent sports writers think about Campbells chances. The only thing that matters is what do the Campbell Memorial Football Players think. And honestly this seasons seniors make me wonder. They really do. So much talent they don't know what to do with it.

Maybe tomorrow night will be when all of our talent shows up, when everything clicks. Good Luck Campbell !!!!

I'm okay with that. I guarantee the Vindy media members will do just the same. I bet the coaching staff has been drilling the kids all week about how little respect we are getting for this game.

They can really turn this season into a positive right now. Good Luck Red Devils. It really would be nice to see some support for cryin out loud for these kids tomorrow. Tired of all the pathetic turnouts

Hot damn how about those Devils???? Respect. And Campbell played sloppy and allowed girard to stay close or this would have been a blow out by Campbell. Don't believe then watch the game tonight and see how many times Campbell coughed it up and girard scored. This game should not have been this close and that is a understatement. Im proud of this team.... they brought the intensity and opened up the playbook like never seen before. Now lets get the next two and it will be Playoff Time In Campbell!!!!

Congrats Red Devils. You played through adversity and came out on top. Great resilience, great intensity, great guts! Need to clean up those turnovers. To overcome the TD before the half and the fumble on the kickoff in the second half was impressive.

That was HUGE!! Big win for the 'Devils and all of the computer points that go with it. Congratz!

I thought the same thing about how they handle there self when it looked like girard was going to take over. and the the problem i had was this cant happen again. Campbell played good enough to win but very sloppy. and this had to be the sloppiest game Campbell played all year and to get the win against girard shows this team has something special. We all knew they had the athletes but just didn't have the leaders. Well there was leaders on that field tonight. and boy did it show. biggest win in many many years in my book. We just chopped the big bad giants off there bean stock.

    Final score??

Campbell led 42-28 with 2:00 left. Girard scored on a blown coverage to make it a 42-28 final

Brandon Reyes ends with 334 yards passing (according to MyValleySports)

I'm guessing that performance obliterated any passing record we ever had. I don't ever recall a Campbell QB put up those kinds of numbers before.

    Passing:
    CAM - Reyes 334 & 3 TDs
    GIR - Graziano 169 & 2 TDs

    Rushing:
    CAM - Hughes 160 yds & 2 TDs
    GIR - Graziano 97 yards

QB Brandon Reyes had an outstanding game, along with our wide receivers. Ja'les Hughes made some big plays when they were most needed. Campbell torched the Girard defense for over 500 total yards. Our entire defense stepped up and made key stops. I was impressed with sophomore Adrian Brown from his linebacker spot and Dewaylon Letlow from his free safety position. Our defensive line kept the pressure on Graziano and company the entire game. Our defensive backs did not allow Graziano or Eggleston to get to the edge. Campbell overcame five turnovers to win this game. Without the turnovers the game would not have been close. The Red Devils will certainly move up further in the computer poll with this big win, perhaps to the top four of the region. The Red Devils have to stay the course and cannot have a letdown vs. Newton Falls after such an emotional win over Girard. Newton Falls beat LaBrae a couple of weeks ago and Champion tonight. They are not going to just lie down for Campbell. Practice hard. Play harder.

I thought Braylen Wigfall was impressive tonight as well. Had the nice TD and forced a fumble.

Really seemed like everyone stepped up tonite.

    HUGE WIN.

Here's a Girard posters take on the game. The first part is a quote from another poster. I was unaware of any of this taking place. Unfortunate if true.

Great job by the Campbell staff you could see they studied this one hard.

Well if that's true it's awfully disturbing, and disappointing.

Win with class, and lose with class.

What's also disturbing and disappointing is the continuing number of penalties by Girard this late in the season. Girard seems to have a lot of coaches, but where's the discipline?

Being able to immediately watch the game on TV once getting home really brought into focus what a great job Campbell's coaching staff did.

Their team was well-coached and well-prepared and shook off quite a few penalties themselves, not to mention numerous turnovers, and showed a gritty Al Davis-type determination--"Just Win, Baby" that overwhelmed the Indians.

Girard, on the other hand, seemed perhaps over-prepared, but at the same time skittish and lackadaisical, almost like they took Campbell way too lightly. The Red Devils' speed and athleticism was something Girard really hadn't faced all year, and it's young secondary was burned badly numerous times. Meanwhile, the Indians, because of false starts, holding calls, a few dropped snaps, etc., could never really establish an offensive rythym, especially in the passing game.

Campbell showed multiple offensive looks--starting with Hughes as a wildcat QB; then Reyes in a QB throwing to the edge; then Hughes running strong out of the 3-stack I; then exploiting Girard's defense with the quick slants over the middle;...all in all, the Red Devils used ALL their players and ALL of their playbook, including a beautiful gadget play--the semi-reverse/hook & ladder.

On the other side of the field, Girard fans watched coach Cochran call what now seems like all the same plays over and over again, from the sideline--a great thing to watch when it's working, but painful to digest when it's getting stuffed and bottled up, primarily because the adjustments never come or they come too late. It seems like all Nick ever wants to do is throw fastballs, when some change-ups or curves might be more beneficial.

Props to Campbell for a great game.

This was the effort we have been waiting for all year, great job fellas!
  • cmhs_pride
I'm going to tell you this. Number one...that post above was exactly right. Absolutely classless the way that team desperately tried to take the Red Devils out of their rythym with constant attempts to start a fight. If you dont like my comment, I really dont care. Girard produces alot of fine young men that I have been able to meet and converse with and work with, and train...etc. But I guess like ALL towns including Campbell, a few give you a black eye.

More importantly moving on, what I must do now in the moment is say what I have never been happier to say...I was WRONG. I questioned up to this point what this team would do in adverse situations. They never and I mean never for a moment sat down and waved the white flag last night. I knew we had the athletes, but the attitude I questioned. Tonight I no longer question it. Selflessness, easiest way to put it. We have been screaming all year to give all these exceptional athletes their due. They got it tonight minus ShawnDel Rey who played very well defensively. Wigfall, Rushton, Patton, Hughes, Smith, Rey. I love the ignorance of previous posters on previous threads when they post about how we have one guy. Watch the TV. This team needed tonight, against a very good team on TV, to show what they bring to the table. The turnovers and mistakes HAVE TO stop however. Minus a few miscues.....we win that game by 4 TD's. Great defense regardless of score. Defensive front...wow keep bringing it gentlemen.

And finally, BRANDON REYES. This young man did not only run all over the place completing passes, but he stood in the pocket and took the hit as well. He made outstanding decisions with the ball 95% of the time. He was constantly keeping his poise and directing his team to stay back when the Indians were trying to jaw their way to a penalty flag. He was a leader, an athlete, and a Red Devil in every sense of the word tonight. Folks we have a very very good QB for the next year and then some.

Up next Newton Falls. Girard, you're 7-1 now. Go 9-1. Trust me, we are all cheering for you.
