3-1 Struthers at 0-4 East Liverpool "Ashers night"
-
OhioWith the cats showing heart last week coming frolm down 18-7 in the 4th to beat an 0-4 Liberty team that had some breaks in the game and with Kimbrough not playing for the wildcats much of the game but a W is a W and East Liverpool getting trounched by Hubbard. Is this the week asher opens it up and shows how much he wants to give it to the potters? Do they finaly just giveStewart the ball and let him wear teams down instead of trying new things until the second half? All being said EL is without Thompkins who was the only player to give struthers fits last yr in a game where struthers dominated everywhere but the scoreboard losing in overtime last season. I will go with the Cats 27-7
-
Struthers FanAsher's return to EL looks like a nice win for the Cats.
31-7
-
Cats4454If the defense can stop the outside run this week, and just stick to pounding the ball up the middle, I see them winning convincingly
Cats 38
EL. 7 -
Spread All DayI will never pick the cats to win by a lot again. For some reason it doesn't happen.

Where'd that come from?Spread All Day;902571 wrote:The lack of community support of the team makes me sick. These people are so ungrateful. -
BTrevStewart has had 58 carries for 362 yards and 4 TDs, in the last 2 weeks.
I'd say he's gotten his due. He can't carry the ball every play.
Don't sleep on the Potters. They'll want this one just as bad. If the Cats don't bury them early, or if they let them hang around, it could be a repeat of last year.
Without Thompkins, and #1 from last year (I think he picked off Tommy like 5 times, probably more), it'll be tough for EL to get the upset. Stranger things have happened though. -
OhioTommy had 7 turnovers last year including a strip that went the other way for 6... That will not happen this year! Where are all the river monsters from EL at? Disappeared after last season?
-
BTrevstucco will PM me over on JJ every now and again. Good guy. I haven't seen any posts from him, or HEAVYDUTY, or anyone else in quite a while though.
I will say, that they aren't too fond of Coach Asher in the least bit. I'm expecting EL to be pretty hostile territory on Friday night.
And I agree, Tommy won't turn the ball over half as many times as he did last year. I'm pretty sure he threw 7 interceptions though. 5 in regulation, 1 in each OT, and the 2 fumbles. It's safe to say that the Cats will not have 4 or 5 turnovers this year. Maybe 2, 3 at the most. Tommy has gotten so much better, with regard to not giving the ball away. He hasn't been making the careless mistakes that he made last year. Playcalling had a lot to do with all the turnovers too. It seemed like everytime Struthers crossed the 50, they'd send McDonald deep and Tommy would force the ball into coverage. Don't send a 5'5" WR into double and triple coverage over and over again. Once is ok, maybe twice... but the OC's tendencies were insanely predictable and well scouted. The defense had every reason to pack it in several times, and they didn't.
It's inaccurate to say that Thompkins is the only one who hurt us last year, and since he isn't playing, it'll be an easy win. Not the case. Is losing #6 unfortunate for EL? Of course it is. Struthers has 7 new starters on defense though, and an entirely new defensive scheme.
On a similar note, I'm happy that Struthers actually has a commitment to the running game this year. Tommy has been making good decisions for the most part, and the D is starting to come around. Struthers has a great opportunity to get to 4-1, before their homestand against LaBrae and East. -

Struthers fans haven't had much to cheer about since the departure of Zetts. I, personally think that was a very stupid decision to let him go. However, with coach Asher there now, things are definitely looking up.Spread All Day;902571 wrote:The lack of community support of the team makes me sick. These people are so ungrateful.
I try to come back home every year for a game or two. Even sat in horribly rainy conditions at Conneaut to watch two fairly bad teams. And yes, we did bring some "die-hards" up the long ride to watch a game in slop.
Give Struthers a winner and the fans are terrific. Even in bad years, the home stands are usually full. I appreciate NE Ohio and the great footballs traditions there. It's not even fun to watch a game here in SoCal. Fair-weather, band-wagon fans. No local rivalries. No student involvement. Many times the visiting sections are empty. And these schools are 3-5 times larger than most Ohio schools.
When I'm ready to retire, I would love to come back to Struthers. I would be like many Struthers fans that would go to any game, regardless of where it is. And.....regardless of the record.
As far as I'm concerned, Struthers has some of the best fans. Period. -

Cats4454I agree with you Struthers fan. Even when the team was a perennial 2-8 team, the stands were still filled and ppl still cheered the wildcats on. Stewart has great stats and runs the ball very hard and has alot of fire in him and that's why his play gets called so much. One player I feel hasn't got his due yet is crhristian walker. He's a captain and plays well every week. He had 2 strips last week and a recovery. He has to have about 40 tackles so far and makes his blocks even though he's a very undersized center. But I never hear too much about him on here.
-
Spread All DaySit in those stands and you will know what I'm talking about. People are calling for ashers job. Hello? Were 3-1? I will never understand the people that think it's 1981 and Struthers is amazing. The entire landscape of mahoning valley football has changed over the past 30 years and maybe some of the old timers should realize that. I cannot even sit in the stands anymore because these people annoy me that much. What a shame.

Spread All DayNot saying every fan, bc Struthers fans are very passionate. But lately it just seems like nothing is enough. Like the stuff coming from the crowd is worse than it was last year except for the campbell game. I love Struthers football, don't get me wrong. I believe this team is on it's way back, but patience is the key people! It's his first year! Saunders was 14-36 in 5 years and arguably the worst coach I've ever watched coach! If Struthers finishes 5-5 I consider this season a success. I'm looking at 7-3 but still, I'm at every game and hear the same things every week.

Asher is doing fine so far and things will get better. He's a good coach. I, too, am glad Saunders is gone. He had talent there, just didn't do anything with it. We are a much better team with him gone. It's so much more positive in Struthers now. The question is: Will we get to where Campbell is now?

Spread All DayWe don't not need to compare ourselves to those people. Struthers sports are coming along great, and perhaps by the end of this year the cats will be back.
-
OhioFootball is the only sport as of lately that hasnt excelled. The boys basketball has been the best team in the area for 2 staright years. Girls bball won the AAC 3 years in a row as well as baseball and softball teams, Bowling team is always going to state.

My reference to Campbell was because of their complete turnaround after years and years of losing. Just like what we've been going through for what seems like ages.Spread All Day;905094 wrote:We don't not need to compare ourselves to those people. Look what new coaches and improved attitudes has done for them:
· 2008 (3 / 7)
· 2009 (7 / 4)
· 2010 (10 / 2)
· 2011 (3 / 1) so far
We can start winning regular now as well. I think everyone's tired of the losing, year-in and year-out. It's frustrating for the team and fans. We deserve better. -

omemorialhighi dont get why trolling is so bad? isnt this the point of the web site lol. ill tell you what, as long as i can remember you have promoted the irish and your logo indicated the same. you spewed your catholic school garbage on this site and now your telling me your a struthers grad??? wow. let me tell you...i really dont think struthers wants you. if you were a true n true wildcat you couldnt stomach supporting and promoting the irish. im sorry but i see this with some campbell people and mooney nowadays and i dont consider them true red devils. good luck to you and whoever you support but your fanhood is definitely in question my friend.

Spread All DaySupporting Ursuline does not make me any less of a struthers fan lol. I'm closer to the team then most. I support the entire valley to Be honest. Except Campbell. You people already think you're gods gift to earth! So have fun in that beautiful city of yours hahaha. You can question my fan hood, lol who are you? It doesn't matter. After all, it is high school football.

Yeah, it is high school football. That's why you should not be condemning the people of Campbell. I have no idea why you are making the statement that "you people already think you're God's gift to earth." If you look down upon Campbell as you state, maybe you shouldn't come to Campbell in week 10. Campbell and Struthers have a rivalry that's existed before you and I were even thought of, which is really a good thing for both communities and for high school football in general. Sometimes you make sense with your posts, for which I have already commended you a few times. But sometimes you don't, such as the one above. I like Struthers to beat East Liverpool.Spread All Day;907896 wrote:Supporting Ursuline does not make me any less of a struthers fan lol. I'm closer to the team then most.
