Drums of WarLooks like it is going to be a perfect night for football. Definately going to wear my boots as I fear it might be a bit sloppy down near the field. Not knowing anything about this Padua team, and just based on how they have played their previous opponents, I am a bit worried about tonight. I sincerely hope that we keep striving for a BALANCED attack. While I agree that Beers is one of our best receiving targets, He is also a beast to contend with in the backfield. With no threat of a run, the LB's can drop deep, and the line can come hunting. You NEED the threat of a run to keep the passing game effective. If we pass pass pass, we will fail fail fail. Come on guys, make us proud. And for the love of Pete, please HIT SOMEONE this week. Show theese private school boys what NW Football is all about.
-
tinman 36hey drums, what do you want the defense to do. the varsity defense has given up 7 points the last 2 games, and they have 2 defensive td's
-
Drums of WarJust seems to be alot of arm tackles and grabbing from behind. I have seen several times when a player was running free, a defender attempted to swipe the ball away from behind instead of tackling the runner. I think it was a long run in the John Hay game, 2 defenders caught up to the runner, both swiped for the ball, and neither one tackled the runner. About the last 2 games, I really feel like we were playing very weak teams. I am hopeful that those games allowed us to build some momentum that will propel us through this next, more difficult part of our season. I am a purist, and while I see the advantages of speed and a spread O, that does not mean that we can not line up and punch some people in the mouth on D. (figuratively speaking of course)

How do you feel now?skiisme753;897341 wrote:Passing the ball more?.....really its about all they do and it is a formula for getting crushed.......I'm taking Padua 28-13
I would at least like to see a RB in the backfield. There is no running threat from Riley.....he's a pocket passer and you need a mobile QB for a 5 wide offense to work because there is no running threat that the defense has to account for. Sure he might get a few yards here and there, but he's not taking one to the house. The problem with a RB in the backfield is that Beers is also hands down the best receiver (and athlete) on the team as well so you can't afford to loose him as a target.
Good luck to the players...play hard and smart and prove me wrong by taking it to the Bruins! -
Brutusskiisme, foot in mouth

fpfpdadchhThe first game as I was able to attend last night. How in the heck do you scout Northwest? Do you defend the spread? Then they can go to the I and the stacked I and beat you to a pulp. Great mix of play calling.
I had to shake my head about Padua. Dirty team when it comes to cheap shots and trash talking, even when they were getting destroyed. I like the one Northwest player when he heard the trash talking near the end of the game just pointed to the scoreboard and walked away. -
Brutusshouldnt be any problems with the way the defense played last night. the defense only gave up one sustained drive and a total of 10 points. padua is a catholic school who is a dirty team. lots of punching kicking in the piles trash talkers. and they spit in our kids faces in the piles.
-
BrutusTHE REFEREES WERE HORRIBLE LAST NIGHT. PADUA GOT AWAY WITH MUGGING ARE RECEVIERS WHILE THE BALL WAS IN THE AIR. THERE OFFENSIVE LINE HOLDS EVERY PLAY. IT WAS LIKE HAVING PEE WEE REFS, THEY LET ALOT OF CRAP GO ON IN THE PILES ALSO.
-
BrutusNWINDIANATION, THERES THAT BALANCED ATTACK I TOLD YOU ABOUT.
-
fpfpdadchhBrutus, noticed the horrible officiating also. The spitting on the faces was not aware of. WOW! Are we home and home with them on the contract?
-
tinman 36Dont think Padua was takin NW too seriously before the game, but when we started whoopin their tails they got frustrated. Proud of the NW boys for keepin their cool with all the crap goin on.
Hey Drums, ask the Padua QB if the NW defense can hit, that boy knows he was in a game last night. 17 points in the last 3 games, dont care who you are playin, thats defense. Loved the goal line stand.
Offense looked great, wr running open all over. #32 was poundin that ball, he has got a nose for the end zone.
Different team out there since week 2, everybody back and healthy.
Great job boys! Enjoy your win till Monday, then forget about it and focus this week. New Philly is gonna be in a bad mood. -
NWIndianNation01I got all sorts of things to say...so here we go...
First and foremost, CONGRATS to our Indians! You guys looked GREAT! Loved every minute of that game! LOVED the diversity in our offense....(after the first two drives)! Like it is said above, relax for the weekend then go get ready for New Philly. Play every week like it is your last!
Second, to emphasize what others have said, Padua was DIRTY! Saw all sorts of kicking, throwing punches, pounding people after the whistle, pushing players long after the plays and I am NOT surprised about the spitting. The Padua coaches should be ashamed of themselves for allowing their players to act like that. That is TRASH in my book. There aren't many programs in Ohio that I despise, but Padua is now one of them. Hey PADUA, I have NO respect for your team! I don't care that they are a rich Catholic school, that is not an excuse for how they acted. NO CLASS! Made me wish that we could have put a few scores more on the board. I also loved the end of the game where the Padua guys were STILL talking trash and all our players would do was point at the scoreboard...THAT WAS GREAT!
With that said, it leads perfectly into my third point....the refs for this game were DEPLORABLE! I don't know if I have ever seen a crew that blind or that bad. Constantly calling ticky tacky penalties and then missing every big hold, block in the back and most importantly the trash that Padua was pulling ALL game! I agree with Brutus...looked like PeeWee football refs. I can tell you that I don't know near enough to ever ref a PeeWee game even, but I think I could have done a better job than that. Where do they get their licenses to ref, out of a cracker jack box? Somebody needs to send in a tape of that game to the OHSAA to get their butts FIRED! TERRIBLE!
Now on to some of the comments above...
Tinman, in regards to defense....Drums was right for the first three games...we were hitting like sissies! NOW...LAST NIGHT...they HIT like MEN! There were some instances where we were annoyed with the jersey tackling and pushing, but I think it was all the trash talk and dirty playing that fired them up and made them hit like they should. They need to carry that fire into every single week! That fire could win us a lot of games this year! LOVED IT!
Lockup Screen (and Brutus..haha)...did you read skiisme's post at all? All he was saying is that the Repository is so full of crap and that we need to have a diversified offense in order to win games. AND GUESS WHAT...WE DID! After the first two sets of downs (which were annoying), we used all sorts of formations and ACTUAL imaginative play calling...AND IT WORKED! I can guarantee if we passed all night long the game wouldn't have been so lopsided. I say we would have possibly only won by 3 or something, if win at all because when we are spread the whole game, it becomes obvious and a lot easier to defend...plus there is no sustained drives. And as a random comment, if the DB's from Padua had any hands at all there would have been about 5 more interceptions (even with a balanced offense) that would have changed the game dramatically. All skiisme was saying about his score prediction, is that if we passed the whole game, that is what he thought it would be. And I know A LOT of NW fans that would agree with him! PERIOD!
BRUTUS...LOVED THE BALANCED ATTACK! I still say if we stayed balanced against Orrville the score could have been MUCH different! Your boy had a few good plays last night...wish he could have got to see the ball a little more though. -
tinman 36Like i said before indiannation, if you would have ever buckled up a chin strap in your life, you would know what its like out there. The players on the other team are pretty good, sometimes they put a move on you, so you do what you gotta do to get them to the ground. You watch too many football movies, you do realize that's not real right. Watch some nfl on sunday, you will see alot of tackling not up to your standards. These "sissies" you are talking about are high school kids, and they are playin their butts off, and playin well! And the defense had 2 more picks, which makes 7 on the year. As for the 5 wide, our offense could have thrown or ran all over that team, coach sees a weakness, he goes after it. Chasing 5 WR around for a couple quarters will tire out a defense. Maybe next friday, stay home and fire up the X-Box

WOW...don't act like you know anything about me. btw...I have buckled up a chin strap, thank you very much.tinman 36;899526 wrote:Like i said before indiannation, if you would have ever buckled up a chin strap in your life, you would know what its like out there. Tell all your non-sense to the teams from 2002 to 2008... they hit HARD! Not calling the boys sissies...just some of the tackling...which btw stems from the fact that they don't hit all that much in practice (to save their bodies for the game). Plus, you saw the change when they got fired up...they started hitting like they should! As for the other team putting moves on you, you can save your breath...I wouldn't be saying this if that is all it has been. We have been right on guys where if we would have actually lowered a shoulder rather than grabbing for jersey right away or just trying to shove them down, we would have taken them down. If you seriously can't see this you are either blind or overly biased.
So stop twisting my words and acting like I am not as hard core of a fan as you. Just trying to DISCUSS some of our weaknesses...isn't that the point of these forums??? Also, I never complained about picking up interceptions... not sure where that came from...only mentioned the other teams inability to pick off a pass. If our team could have just passed all over them then why didn't we just pass the whole game. I will tell you why...because the coaches realized that we have to be more balanced to win football games.
Your last comment is so laughable...give me a break!
You need to remember we are cheering for the same team. I am just trying to discuss my thoughts on what I see, that is all. What is the point of posting if all you are going to do is be a cheerleader. I would put on a skirt and get on the sidelines if I wanted to do that.
GO INDIANS BEAT NEW PHILLY! -
Brutuslol behave boys. on to new philly
-
tinman 36ask the 3 boys from john hay who were knocked out of the game or the south kids if NW hits. bottom line is, its easy to sit in the stands and second guess every decision, when something dont work, you would have done the opposite, pure genious. you seem to be the master of the open field tackle, I'm sure we would all love to see some of your game film. post a link on here so we can see how its done
-
INDIANS FANCome on Tinman....listen to the crowd on Friday nights, the boys have benn attempting arm tackles the past couple of games for a gain on 10-20 yards for the other team. Think about the Orrville game. There were 2-3 NW players on the ground while they are still running the ball due to arm tackling. The boys did great last night and I am sure they will keep it up. Indiannation was right on!

fpfpdadchhtinman, dude, we are all on the same side. Reeeelax. nwindiannation is a major die-hard Indian Nation fan. He wants what is best for the team. He bleeds scarlet and gray indian nation blood, bro. Being involved with coaching and having family that were strong coaches in their own right, I know that part of being a fan is having an opinion. Does not make you less of a fan. Part of the game. Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno, two most winningest college coaches of all times, have had play calling questioned by their alumni and by the network screamers. They take it either way. They stay the course and stay with their philosophy......or they look at the films and realize that maybe the screamers might be on to something. Vic is an amazing coach, he has turned around a program that was going down the wrong path and made it into the perrenial playoff threat that they are. But, as much as I want Vic to stay his whole career as the coach of the Indian Nation, the loyal fans have a right to disagree on a forum if they don't see eye to eye. The majority would rather have Vic as their coach any day of the week, believe me. And I know for a fact that nwindiannation wasn't calling the warriors out there sissys. He was makin a point about times where they are struggling wrapping up on their tackles, thats all. Sometimes that is due strictly to the speed of the game. Most defensive players out there realize as good of tacklers that they are, there is room to improve their fundamentals when it comes to tackling.
-
fpfpdadchhAnd to add, the Tribe played a strong game last night. Padua was a very tough opponent. It is always very tough to beat private schools that can draw from a whole diocese like they can. You could tell the players were frustrated by the late hits and the bantering that was going on. I did notice that the head coach from Padua would go up to a player that was involved in a skirmish or trash talking and have a talk with them. I can only assume that the coach was being corrective to those players.

BrutusIcan see this team getting better and better each week. orrville was lucky to have played us week one. players play, coaches coach , fans support. enough said we all want to win. thanks for being a Indian fan
