Week 2: Campbell Memorial (1-0) at South Range (0-1)

oldschoolreddevI watched the replay of the game last night and saw a couple of things that I liked and a couple of things I didn't. Our team speed is pretty Damn good. I like Reyes as our Qb even more after seeing him again. I am not sold on our defense just yet. I saw a couple of things that has me a little concerned going into Friday's game. Hopefully the coaches will make those adjustments. Good luck Red Devils!

I am curious to see how well our defense plays against a quality and disciplined opponent. Let's face it, Mineral Ridge is not a very good team. I hope they do win a few games this season so Campbell can get some help with computer points. With our schedule we'll need every point we can get. I expect the officials to step in during the game and allow official time outs to keep the kids hydrated in the heat tomorrow night.oldschoolreddev;879038 wrote:I watched the replay of the game last night and saw a couple of things that I liked and a couple of things I didn't. GO DEVILS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
oldschoolreddevBig game! South Range does not want to start the season 0-2, Memorial wants to show that they are a legitimate contender. Should be a good game. Good Luck Red Devils!

BigDean1It's going to be a tough night to play football. I cannot believe how humid it is out there. I am sure the officials will stop play here and there to give the kids a water/Gatorade break to keep them hydrated. I am looking forward to this game.

sonnyblackdidn't make it to the game, on radio now after a power outage, ja'les putting on a show. Campbell up 21-0 2nd qtr, ja'les already over 200 yds rushing and 3 td's.
-
sonnyblack7:44 3rd qtr Campbell 35-0. reyes to patton 54 yd td pass for the latest score. ja'les with 270+ yds rushing and 4 td's.
-
BigT761Wow what a pass on the money
-
sonnyblackGreat job Devils, keep it going! coach wont be happy with the reserves giving up 3 td's though, lol.

And sure as hell isn't happy about another UNNEEDED penalty for celebration.sonnyblack;880981 wrote:Great job Devils, keep it going! coach wont be happy with the reserves giving up 3 td's though, lol. -
BigDean1Final is Campbell 41-20. Campbell's offense is scary and will only get better as the season moves along. Campbell was up 41-0 with four minutes left in the third quarter when Coach Sikora pulled his first team defense. South Range's first team offense was able to score three touchdowns on Campbell's jayvees. Coach Sikora will rip the jayvees for giving up those three scores because that his what he is supposed to do. Hughes was superb tonight, rushing for nearly 270 yards and four touchdowns. Brandon Reyes hooked up with Dominic Patton on a perfectly executed fly pattern for a 55 yard touchdown. Patton never broke stride. Just a perfectly executed pass play. Rushton caught a 50 yard touchdown pass moments later. But he has to stop those end zone Terrell Owens imitations where he taunts the defense. I believe #20 Shorter might have been ejected from the game for shoving a SR player. Sudakov was outstanding with three of his kickoffs going for touchbacks. South Range played hard and did not quit. But they were just overmatched by Campbell Memorial's size on the offensive line and overall team speed. Next up for Campbell is another road game at Liberty next Friday.

omemorialhighCampbell dominated tonight. This game got out of hand, and Im not going to even bring up all the racial slurs and illegal chop blocks. Bottomline let the scoreboard do your talking. If I wouldve made that catch Rushton made after that kid was taunting him I probably wouldve walked into the endzone backwards too lol. Defense looked shaky at times but made plays when they needed to. The big boys were tired tonight in that heat, but they made the plays when they needed to. I truly believe Letlow can play football in college, the kid is an absolute force on defense. Is anyone noticing some problems with our defensive gameplan in regards to our linebackers??? or am I just seeing things out there? Jales absolute stud. Reyes is a great qb. Im really looking forward to Campbell/Labrae in a couple weeks.
-
omemorialhighmake no mistake about it...this game was 41-0 in the third, the first team defense didnt give up any of those points.

If indeed there were racial slurs being said to our players, it's hard to just walk away from those things. I mentioned that racial slurs had to be a part of this because our kids would not have reacted the way they did if it were anything else. South Range was out of this game by the third quarter and their frustration might have boiled over. But there is no excuse for the racial slurs, no matter what the score is. Either the officials turned a deaf ear to the things being said, or they just did not hear them.omemorialhigh;881274 wrote:Campbell dominated tonight. At halftime, I talked to one of the best linebackers ever to play at Campbell, and he did mention something about the linebackers to me. It needs to be shored up soon. I don't agree with the taunting in the end zone. It's the second week in a row that it has happened. I know the kids are pumped after they score. But it needs to be put to a stop by Coach Sikora. Letlow's one handed interception was a thing of beauty. And his stick on #42 is the best hit of the season thus far. Ja'les made the South Range defense look silly. Reyes might be the best quarterback Campbell has had in many years. His touchdown pass to Patton was a thing of beauty. On a really tough night to play with the heat and humidity, this was a well earned win. On to Liberty next. -
cmhs_prideI missed the game not due to my liking trust me. Such is life. Listened on the radio to the second half.
Couple things, one this team controls their own destiny. They really do. Two, we have a very good QB and all the questions I believe are answered about his ability. Three, Ja'les Hughes is going to break record after record at the pace he is going. Next week will be no different at the rate he is going. Four, our defense is a thousand times better than its been in a long long time. The things some of you see out there I am sure are legit. Especially when former players are watching closely and can pick flaws out. But it is a better defense.
Here's my problem, and until it happens nobody knows......ADVERSITY. It's going to come and here is what worries me. The taunting. Omemorialhigh, you strike me as a former player. In my opinion, you act like you have been there before. The backwards walking crap/ photo shoot in the endzone BS is absolutely ridiculous. If you are from Campbell, Black or White, Puerto Rican, Greek, Italian, Catholic, Orthodox, Baptist, Short and Ugly, Tall and Fat, or whatever your ethnic background may be.....you know one thing....they are going to try and get you going. It has been that way since 1926 and its not going to change in 2011. So we better figure out what we are going to do when we play Girard and we are up 20-19 and they have the ball and decide to start jawing at us looking for 15 yarders....because trust me...its coming. The taunting shows inmaturity and with inmaturity comes inability to handle adversity. It's up to this team. They can go as far as they want. We'll see how far they want to go. -
omemorialhighI completely understand your opinion cmhs, but i truly believe that you have to play this game with a huge chip on your shoulder. either your the alpha male on campus or your not. if this starts becoming a problem that affects games then its a problem, until then im all for being the bully on the block. not too long ago we were the whipping boys of this valley. i guess you can be the canes or nebraska, but as long as were whipping butt i dont care. i want the other team to know we arent going to take anyones you know what and we came to hang a loss on them. and lets be honest the 89 90 91 teams were not angels. i can remember guys spitting in guys faces during games and everything else. it was all about intimidation. i dont see anything wrong with a little smack talk. were campbell, lets not try and be poland or canfield because were not. weve got kids that have been put down their whole lives, if they want to have some fun on the football field then so be it. AS LONG AS IT DOESNT START AFFECTING THE GAME, which i agree it has the potential to become a problem. if someone calls me a racial slur and then i burn him for a td, im problem going to let him hear about it. thats just me.

BigDean1The Vindicator had some of the statistics messed up for this game. They credited Reyes with a 77 yard touchdown run. But that touchdown was by Ja'les Hughes. Ja'les lined up at QB with Reyes going out wide as a receiver. Ja'les took the snap and ran 77 yards for the touchdown. Ja'les had four touchdowns for the game and 272 yards rushing on 12 carries, not 11 carries for 195 yards. Also, it was Dominic Patton who caught the 55 yard touchdown pass. Rushton caught the 54 yard touchdown pass that was tipped by one of the defenders.

OhioCampbell should roll liberty after liberty got blown out by 30 by niles.

reddevil90This Team my have all it needs to Finnish what the teams of the past have not succeeded. I know we live in different times and the 89 team might have tore up this 2011 team. But also all these other teams have changed. Who will stop them? Hell Who will stop Hughes? I missed the game and it made me sick but i have some real bad issues that might keep me from some games this year. But only team on the schedule i see that will give adversity to this team is Girard and you always know the Wildcats. Liberty should end in the same results as the other teams. And the Jv's are worrying me for next year. they have yet to score and already gave up 3 tds. But most of the JVs never seen a well disciplined Wing T! Liberty will be over by 3Qt. And lets hope we can get a score in the first Qt finally.

cmhs_prideOmemorial, I get that. Trust me I have been a Campbell kid all my life. We are not Angels. I love the way some towns think their kids are angels. What is even more sad are those who move away....have kids...their kids play for another school...and then they suddenly think Campbell is a bad place. Thats what I love.
Those people who do that and then have the you know what to say "Ohhh I will always bleed red and black".....I'd like to throw a forearm right at their head. See, I do understand frustration when it comes to taunting and people just being idiots.
But the taunting thing on our end has to stop. I mean you are playing football. What better way to make a statement then play a game where you can legally smack someone coming over the middle with the ball who just doesnt want to shut the hell up. Yes talking is going to happen...pointing is going to happen.....its football. But save the T.O. show for number 81. The scoreboard did all the talking last night. I have a feeling it will do all the talking again next week. -
cmhs_prideReddevil90.....do not leave Labrae out of the mix. Bottom line... they need to handle their business and they need leaders who are going to lead them in a rough situation. If they do not get that....you are going to find out real quick exactly what team you thought you were watching. Sorry guys, I am not going to sugar coat it. This team has all the makings of 1994. How you do not see that is unbelievable to me. Talent out of the you know what and no leadership. NONE!
The 94' team came out in week one and ripped Alleghaney Academy 34-12?? The next week they ran into a very good Chaney Team. Do you remember that game and the direction the season went after that game?
Enough talk about State and playioffs. This team is doing what they are suppose to do in a weak schedule. They are athletic, experienced, and have a good coaching staff. Thank God for this staff actually. Will they hold up in an ugly situation. We'll see. I know you guys are saying, wow what do you want pride. I'll tell you what I want. I want to see a team out there. Not a bunch of talented individuals. -
lets_go_devilsCan't look past Brookfield either. They're 2-0 with 2 blowouts as well and we go to their house in 2 weeks for the MyYTV game of the week.
Adversity very well could come in that game. We need to get on them early and often, you know all about Trumbull county refs. -
lets_go_devilsAnd Pride, brother, you couldn't be more right if you tried.
-
BigDean1
If our offense keeps clicking like it is, and the defense improves each week, we'll blow Brookfield off the field. It's another team that has no answer for our speed and athletes.lets_go_devils;882639 wrote:Can't look past Brookfield either. I see some similarities to the '94 team. I've been saying that since the summer. The team has no senior leadership. There are good kids on this team. But again, I don't see any of the seniors stepping up as of yet into leadership roles. One difference between the '94 team is the coaching staff for this team is a veteran staff. The '94 team had Soroka, Minnie, and a few younger guys with little or no coaching experience. The '94 team basically came apart after losing in week two to Chaney that season. They faced a few really good teams after that Chaney game and it was an absolute disaster of a season. In fact, the only game I saw them play together as a team was the game vs. JFK that year. This staff will do their best to keep these kids focused. Trust me, if we ran into Ursuline right now, they would mop the field with us. Campbell is getting better. But they must get a whole lot better by week 10. Campbell is playing a weak schedule. Consequently, the Red Devils can finish 7-3 or 8-2 and not make the playoffs. There is a chance that we may have to go undefeated to get a home playoff game. I really can't see Campbell losing to Liberty, Brookfield, Champion, Newton Falls, or Edgewood. But wins are definitely going to be needed at LaBrae, at Girard, and vs. Struthers. South Range could help us, provided they win out or come very close to doing so. Champion did win last night, as did Edgewood. . Brookfield won today. Mineral Ridge is a bad team that may win very few if any games at all.cmhs_pride;882614 wrote:Reddevil90.....do not leave Labrae out of the mix. cmhs_prideWe will not get a home playoff game at 10-0 Bigdean. Unless South Range turns their season around. They have Crestview I believe now and I know that team very well personally. You want to talk about a potential team we would face in the playoffs that will bring everything and then some. Range may be 0-3 after this week.
