Triway Football 2011
-
thePITmanAfter back-to-back-to-back 8-3 seasons and three straight trips to the playoffs (albeit 3 straight first-round losses), Triway is looking to solidify itself as an up-and-coming football program. However, after losing a great amount of productivity to graduation, this year will be a good test to see how far we've come. I have confidence that we have some experienced players returning, some promising newcomers, and a good coaching staff that should help make this team another successful one. What are everyone's thoughts on this coming season?
Here is our schedule:
8/26 - West Holmes (Away)
9/2 - Orrville (Home)
9/9 - Waynedale (Away)
9/16 - Fairless (Home)
9/23 - Tuslaw (Away)
9/30 - CVCA (Away)
10/7 - Indian Valley (Home)
10/14 - Manchester (Home)
10/21 - Tusky Valley (Away)
10/28 - Timken (Away)
Go Titans! -

THE4RINGZI am looking forward to the season. I know the off season workouts have been going well. Love the new weight training facility.
It will be exciting to see who is willing to step up and fill the shoes vacated by graduation.
Go Titans. -
BearBoy69This will be an interesting seasOn. I believe this class has talent; but some character issues. Other than zOdy I don't see any real leadership. I might be wrong, well I hope I'm wrong. They have the potential for sure. It'll be interesting to see if they can Play unselfishly and togethr and leave the character issues in the Past. It should be interesting. If they do that they'll go to the playoffs. Plus with another weak looking schedule for the 2nd year in arrow the worst I could see in the next year is 5-5. Let's face it PAC football is currently a joke other than Triway. Waynedayle and west Holmes are still rebuilding. The only really "gOod" team is orrville and I see lots of question marks with them Next year as well.

THE4RINGZCharacter issues in the past? Please explain.

That's what I was thinking, too. Here is how I view the PAC: The bottom half is very, very bad - Timken, Fairless, & Indian Valley. A couple schools have been up and down recently but have very good potential each year - Tusky Valley and Tuslaw. The others are decent to very good - Manchester, CVCA, Triway. Some non-PAC followers would say "The PAC-7 is a joke outside of Manchester." But I think Triway and CVCA are trying to get into that mix, as well. Like I said in the opening post, this year will say a lot as to how far Triway has come solidifying itself as an up-and-coming program.
Here are some of my thoughts in terms of personnel:
I think Lane Drake will need to be a big part of our offense this year, whether he's at QB, WR, or RB (probably QB?). He showed some flashes of very good play last year, and I think he'll do well for us.
Kearney and Bertsch will be depended upon to carry our receiving corp this season. Last year they had 10 TD catches between them only being the #3 and #4 WR's on offense, but they'll be the unquestioned leaders in that department.
Other than Drake, I have no clue who will run the ball for us.
On defense, we return Zody, Wadkins, Faught, Kearney, Bertsch, Drake, and Schuler. If Schuler is completely healthy, I look for a big year from him - we'll need it at LB to take some pressure off Zody.

Agree with you there. Like most 8 team leagues usually 2 to 3 at the top and bottom year in year out and the others in the middle go up and down every few seasons like Tusky Valley and Tuslaw playoffs a couple years ago then down to the middle of the pack. I think it all comes down to the quality and consistency of the coaches at each school whether they stay on top, middle, or bottom of the standings. -
THE4RINGZTuslaw has struggled these past few years, but will once again rise to the top 2 or 3 in the PAC.

BearBoy69I totally forgot about Manchester but cvca was all utley even then they weren't strong. Im not saying Thier program isn't good just the talent level seems low for next year. And I'd rather not talk about the character issues it's alot of gossip, so who knows if it's 100% true. I believe a sophomore to be by the name of Cody Mackey I've seen play freshman ball might look for varsity time at running back and linebacker. Hes a brute. Schuler maybe to run the ball? Possibly even convert bertsch to run the ball since they already have Kearney, and probably some more
Promising younger recievers we don't know about yet. (Tony lee probably has an ace up his sleeve in that department since quarterbacks and receivers seem to be his forte) Do athletic strong bertsch may be a solid choice -
THE4RINGZPrivate message me the character issues you brought up, I would love to hear what you think you know.
-
THE4RINGZAs far as a running game goes, no one has mentioned a running back who played primarily JV last season, he is a big kid, runs hard, not too fast, but a bruiser. A nice little striaght ahead runner who could become an asset in short yardage situations. Is he an every down back? Probably not. Do I see someone else having to step into that role? Maybe. Recievers...there are a few unmentioned kids who come to mind.
I guess if you don't know these kids the way I do, you proably wouldn't understand who some of the "hole fillers" might be. Having seen every game these kids have played in the past seven years at all levels probably gives me an unfair advantage in this conversation. And I am content to leave it at that. -
BearBoy69It's just some notre dame thing i heard. No need to dive further into it. Idk if those kids were on the football team or not. Being a triway alumni I have seen quite a few home games at a few levels. But ya that does give you an advantage ringz. I believe we are looking at another playoff team. Idk how they'll perform in the playoffs due to Past performances. Who knows maybe they'll take it the extra step. Fall will come around and ask these kids what they've been doing all summer. I hope for Triways sake they've done thier school and program good through hard work in the weight room and extra workouts
-
THE4RINGZWhat they have been doing this summer is hitting the weight room and conditioning. Numbers are up for this season. Like in any program there is a core of kids who attend every day and a group of kids who come occaisionally.
-
thePITmanWho was #7 from JV last year? From what I saw at the scrimmages (when both JV and Varsity were visible) and the few JV games I attended, he seemed to make some good plays and was very athletic. As for "character issues", that does not belong on this site at all.
-
BearBoy69Agreed I shouldn't have even brought it up kids will be kids. I'd like to leave it at that. It was wrong of mento even mention. And pitman I believe I have seen that kid play before as well. He is Good. What about the jv quarterback #15? he seemed pretty good when he was thrown in on varsity. Any chances of him plAying quarterback? And ringz that is good to hear. Sounds like they are all makin the most out Of high school putting in the work.

THE4RINGZ#7 = Justin Copley

thePITman
That makes sense! Seeing him play basketball last year (didn't know who he was before that), he was often the most athletic kid on the floor during JV basketball games. Very glad to see him playing multiple sports!THE4RINGZ;810317 wrote:#7 = Justin Copley
He (#15, Reynolds) did not throw a single pass at the varsity level last year and didn't touch the ball once in our 3 closest games, so it's hard for me to judge him as a QB (but Drake did not throw a pass, either). If we were to use Reynolds on offense, my guess would be more at RB/WB/WR or something. Believe it or not, he's our leading returning rusher from last year's team with a total of... 87 rush yards and 2 TD! I personally think Drake is more suited for the QB position, but he (Drake) could really play anywhere, and if placed at WR, could open up the QB spot. I am sure Reynolds will be used on offense some, but I'm not sure where. One thing I AM sure of is that Coach Lee will have every kid in the best position to make our team the best possible.BearBoy69;810209 wrote:What about the jv quarterback #15? he seemed pretty good when he was thrown in on varsity. In another month or so, we'll get to see the kids in action at team/passing camps. Can't wait!
Keep working hard, Titans! -
ttae8286It should be an interesting year - I am optimistic. There are a lot of opportunities for a several good, talented seniors and juniors that have not seen significant varsity time simply because they are following 3 excellent classes. I think they are taking advantage of the new weight room and are hungry to get their shot in the line up. This is a good thing - I remember too many years hoping that a bunch of promising sophomores would make a difference - and it usually didn't. Hopefully, the tradition keeps building and the kids are willing to continue to put in their time until they get an opportunity.

Time to step it up here Big Guy. -
BearBoy69Isn't Derek carmichaels younger brother going to be in high school this season? I heard that boys good. I'm not a fan of throwing any rookie QB to the dogs at any level, but maybe he could be the starter? I'd rather see him get developed a year or two just wanted to get some thoughts on this.
-
THE4RINGZYes, Parker is an incoming freshman. Yes, he has taken as many meaningful varsity snaps as Drake. Yes, Reynolds is not a passing quarterback.
This lends itself to a real mystery. -
BearBoy69So idk maybe we are looking at a running option like offense with fewer passes and multiple situational running backs. This seems to be the case if Reynolds or drake starts.
