Struthers Football 2011

  • Struthers Fan
I have the 'utmost' respect for the "Big Red". They've got it all. Great tradition, great coaches, best fan support, great band..... along with the ever intimidating "Death Valley" aspect. What more could you want in high school football? They are the standard by which any team should look to achieve.
I'll love Struthers until I die, but Big Red is up there with me.
    Roll Red Roll.:D

When I was like 16, I joined my first fantasy baseball league. my team's name was Big Red. I think that says it all...

    Back to Struthers football..
I wonder how Asher's team will respond to adversity this season..
  • BTrev
The biggest question will be if Tommy can stay calm under pressure. I think they'll respond pretty well to adversity.
  • Ohio
This season will depend on the Defense mark my words...... If we can't stop anyone from throwing the ball it can turn out to be a long season.
  • BTrev
If they had a legit pass defense last year, they likely would've went 7-3 or 8-2. They held half of their opponents under 100 yards on the ground.

I've already said that I think the secondary will be the strength of the defense this year.

    CB: Duchek
    CB: Wess
    FS: Malone
    SS: Kunzer

Wilburn (Jermayne's little brother) will get some experience this year, too. Duchek and Kunzer are both 3 year starters.

    WILL: ?
    ILB: Fandozzi
    ILB: Walker
    SAM DE/OLB: Stewart

A solid group of LBs. Walker is a 3 year starter, and Stewart started 3 games at ILB last year. Koup will see some time at ILB too. I'm not sure who the Weak side linebacker will be. Pollifrone? McNally? Fandozzi?

    DE: Barone
    DT: Shaffer
    NT: Maillis

Arranz and Pape will se time at the tackles too. The defensive line is easily the most inexperienced group on D.

    QB: Kimbrough
    FB: Maillis
    HB: Kunzer

The backfield is probably 4 or 5 deep at RB. Stewart will see time in the backfield too. Pollifrone could probably start for a lot of teams around here. My only concern about the backfield... I'm not sure who the #2 QB is. Wess? Muntean?

    WR: Duchek
    WR: Malone

The WRs will need to produce. Wess and Wilburn will probably see a lot of time at WR too, when they go to the spread.

    LT: McIntee
    LG: Grewe
    C: Walker
    RG: Peebles
    RT: Shaffer
    TE: Fandozzi

A lot of Seniors on the line. McIntee, Grewe, and Peebles don't have much experience, but once they build a little chemistry with Walker and Shaffer, they should be fine. Wagner will see time at LT tou. I'm not sure who the rest of the 2s are up front. Patterson is massive, and he'd definitely get playing time, but I don't know what the deal is with him. Koup will see time at TE, probably as an extra blocker in short yardage and goal line situations.

I really like the mix of Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors this year.

Add the papes into the mix on the lines. That being said, i think you meant baron on the DL, there are no barones on this years team. Patterson let the talk get to his head at an early age, and hasn't improved much since. Look for stocker to be the will, i'm pretty sure he's the guy for it. I hear they put Stewart at the DE spot too! Very interesting.
  • Spread All Day
Muntean at the 2 as well.
  • BTrev
Yeah, my bad. Baron. friggin typos.

    Are there multiple Papes?

I was told the starters directly from Stewart. I forgot to ask him who the WLB would be though. Stocker sounds right.
  • Ohio
Koup will also see alot of time out of the OLB. and Possibly Pollifrone as well.

Danny and Mike, I think. One plays O, the other plays D.

The Blitz has trouble with multiple players with the same name.

    Examples...

They listed Mike Pape twice for Struthers, instead of Danny and Mike. They listed Nick Pollifrone twice. Once for Struthers, and once for Boardman. Nick plays for Struthers. Ryan plays for Boardman.

They always make mistakes like that.
  • Spread All Day
Well Mike has been seeing time at DT (3 tech) and at the guard sport. Danny also has been seeing time at tackle and DT (3 tech).
There are rarely only one side of the ball players at Struthers.
  • BTrev
Yeah, I know. Sophomores usually only play one way though, or they play sparingly on O or D and they play a lot on Special Teams. The Juniors and Seniors go both ways a lot.

    Will: pollifrone
    Sam: walker
    Mike: fandozzi

Koup will be getting playing time as the mike backer

word is mcintee quit the team and wagner is starting as tackle for the o-line
  • BTrev
When did he quit? Any insight to why?

Why put yourself through doubles and everything like that, and work your way into the starting line-up, only to quit days before the first game of your Senior year... it doesn't make any sense. Are you sure he quit?

apparantly no one on the teams knows exactly why he quit but some told me that he wasnt starting over wagner and he believes he should be. Also i heard that he was having some personal problems so that sparked it. it was probably just a quick irrational decision and i wouldnt be surprised if he apologized and came back to the team.
