Hilliard Davidson coach hitting players?

  Now, for you being so smart to be in my head that you can tell what I would have thought if it were Ginn. If it were Ginn, I'd say he was trying to re-focus a bunch of 17/18 year old boys that were self-absorbed in the moment, BEFORE the moment had arrived (12 seconds to go). Oh wait.... that's the same thing I said about White. Shocking!

  ...I agree 100%. He gave his kids a quick reality pop on their pads to let them know they still had business to take care of.

  I think the boys were starting to celebrate a little too early,and didnt get the play off.CW was just reminding that the game wasnt over yet and there was still business to do.

  I saw it happen, and personally I saw NOTHING wrong with it. To be honest with you, this thread is the reason why a lot of schools have so much trouble winning, coaches are not allowed to be physical without a lawsuit or whining. I would bet 100% the kids in that huddle were excited... They probably were thinking more about the championship than the kneel. The coach got their heads right for that last play... A fumble on that play could have been EXTREMELY bad. Did you notice as he was walking off the field he let out a little grin toward someone on the sideline? He was excited too, he just has to be the one to keep all the players in check. I thought going for the 2 point conversion was classy too... By doing so, he got the win but if they didn't get the conversion, he placed the blame on himself by making the call... Not on the players. Gutsy, but classy. Hats off to Hilliard

  I watched the game on tv. I actually thought very highly of both coaches. Davidson's coach smacking the pads of his players at the end isn't anything. As far as coach Ginn not being too talkative at halftime...maybe thats just his style (I don't know because this is the first time I've seen him).

  Kind of reminded me of when Reno was jacking up this kid that was starting to celebrate when Big Red won it a couple of yrs ago.

  I saw nothing wrong with what Coach White did. That final play was potentially the biggest play of that game and they need to be focused. Anyone that has a problem with what he did must have never played football and never been smacked on the helmet, hit on the pads or grabbed by the face mask. It's called football. It doesn't hurt. Those boys sure as hell aren't complaining because those smacks served their purpose. I played for Coach White. He is the single greatest motivator and teacher of the game that I've ever been around. Don't question his methods or motives. It makes you sound stupid. His resume speaks for itself.

  If you're implying that smacking kids on the helmet and grabbing face masks is appropriate because a big play is forthcoming, then it is you who sounds stupid, my friend. Questioning his methods is exactly what I'm doing. This isn't the 60's. Most football coaches no longer slap kids upside the head or grab face masks to make their point.

  I can't believe this is even an issue. HD coach did nothing wrong. The "Get your Head in the Game" helmet slaps have been around forever.

  many people who never played football would be surprised what goes on in the huddle during a time out. At a very sucessful catholic scholl I know about the head coach would come out curse up a bleu streak and then end with a hail mary! Face masks, shoulder pads and helmets were used as points of emphesis. The only thing hurt would be the coach's hand and the other team on the next play.

  When I saw what he did in the huddle I called my wife out to watch it, just to get the reaction.

  I DO UNDERSTAND THAT COACHES CAN AND DO CROSS THE LINE WHEN IT COMES TO DISCIPLINE - BUT THAT IS A VERY SMALL NUMBER OF THEM!!!

  This was a NON-ISSUE!! It was a harmless motivational tactic, AND it worked. They did win the game!! If he were to have lunged at, or poked a player in the face that was not wearing a helmet, maybe a bit different.

  Are you kidding me? A little pop to the pads is going to harm 200+ pound kids who have just spent the past 2.5 hours repeatedly banging into the gigantic kids from Glenville? White was upset because the play clock got down to 3 and it looked like the boys weren't going to get the snap off and he had to call time out. He told a couple kids where to line up then he popped a couple on the pads and told them as he did it, "You're going to be state champs." Nothing malicious, just letting them know there was one more play to go. Biglou, you obviously have an agenda, why don't you just tell us what it is?

  Biglou was a bench warmer on the 2006 Hilliard Davidson championship team and he's still crying 'cause he never saw the field that year even on special teams. The only trophy he has at home is a bronzed jock strap from pee wee league football back in the day.

  More coaches should be this passsionate about the game. Too many "huggers" out there today who want to make everybody feel good about themselves. That kumbaya BS might win state championships in some places but not Ohio HS football.

  Even if he was going to make adjustments, why would he tell some reporter? This isn't the NFL or big time college ball. It's the high school state championship. If I'm the coach, I'm not giving anything away. And you know what, "playing sound football" is ALWAYS something to continue to preach at halftime. Regardless of the gamplan, if it isn't sound football, it won't work.
  
  
  As for the OP. Really? Did you ever play football? This nancy crap is so stupid. I played football in high school and have two more years of college ball left. I'm not going to get mad if my coach hits my helmet if I'm not paying attention or grabs my facemask to look at him.

  Hahaha... i think it's funny when any coach gets in trouble for this. He did nothing wrong, but he does look a little nuts out there. I prefer a coach that is calm and cool rather than some screaming idiot who hits people though.
