darbydavidsonfanDid I hear correctly on TV that Brian White may not be coaching much longer at HD?

Wow dude. A little sensitive huh? We are paying Davidson complements. The "Glenville underachieves" was not a statement based solely on this game but on Ginn's body of work in the last 6 years or so.ridgerunner88 wrote:
Maybe you should take your advice and shove it....no, I will not play nice, don't make excuses for an inferior team. Davidson is a better team, better talent, hence they have 2 titles in the last 4 years.speedrush1189 wrote: Maybe you should stop being so defensive and realize most people are complementing davidson. Here let me put it this way...... if you switched the two teams and coaching staffs and gave White the Glenville kids and Ginn the Davidson kids, this would have been a 14 point win for White.
What we are trying to say is that Glenville was far superior in terms of raw talent but davidson played as a TEAM and White outcoached Ginn.
Congrats to Davidson. 2 in 4 years is not too bad at all. I would put in a vote for Davidson as program of the decade.
Great year Glenville, see you next year. -
chicago510The White and Delande dynasty continues at Davidson.
They do it with hard work, smart football, and huge cajones.
Ironic that White is as conservative a coach playcalling wise as you will find, but he has called back to back 2 pt conversion to win state titles. -
BiglouWonder what would have been said had it been Coach Ginn who was hitting his players at the end?

Yeah, I know you're only sayin. yeah, I know you're just makin a point. But, no way in hell are you gonna get away with sayin G shoulda won this game. Davidson has made tremendous sacrifice to get to this point, give them their due and quit with the shoulda, coulda, woulda. DI state champs, Hilliard Davidson......speedrush1189 wrote:

GoChiefsRidge..give it a rest man..quit being so sensitive..he gave Davidson his props..and he gave his opinion about the game. That's what these forums are about. If you can't respect that..then I don't know what to tell you. Quit trying to turn it into a pissing match.

CardsFlyinHighI dont know how anyone can say one coach out coached the other. They both coached horrible in my opinion. I mean, I know Davidson is a running team, but on 3rd and nines, 3rd and 13, why do you not even bother to try a pass. And I know everyone will bring up that they broke the long one in the end, but if Ginn doesn't try that pop pass on 4th and one, or Bryant catches that pass on the 2 that he dropped, the game wouldve been over.
Each team tried to give the game away, Glenville just did it better. -

That he knows what a forward pass is. His conservative play calling should have cost his team a state championship if Glenville didn't hand it to them.ShocknAwe wrote:

To me, the answer is simple...why give your one or two good passing plays away? For Davidson, it's about surprise, not about tactic. When they pass, its because you are over loading the box, not when you are expecting it. A pass on 3rd and 8, 9, 10+ is expected and takes away from your game plan later in the game...CardsFlyinHigh wrote: I dont know how anyone can say one coach out coached the other. And it works...on the Cats first pass play on a 1st and 10 the wide-out was open if he wasn't over thrown by a yard. Which re-emphasizes White's point of running...you can always out-scheme somebody, but at the high school level...the (QB) still has to make a great play to make it work, -

Yes but, Had Glenville converted their fourth and one, which ironically chances are they probably would have if Ginn woulda ran instead of passed, then they might not have even had the chance.DrinknByTheBay wrote:

Or if Davidson didn't fumble at the one...etc. etc.CardsFlyinHigh wrote:

He didn't run the ball because Davidson had been defending it pretty darn well...
I was once told, "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, Christmas would be everyday." -
CardsFlyinHighI would have no problem if it was working. Like in the 06 game it was working pretty well against Mentor. But aside from a play here and there, Glenville was shutting them down. You would think they would expand the playbook to attempt to get more offense going. They got extremely fortunate they got a chance to win the game in the end. Obviously coach White's formula works. I cant see how it possibly does, but it does.

newarkcatholicfanH.D. won so it appears it shows they did what needed to be done to win.

xnds1fanLet me think for a mnute......Brian White has coached TWO teams to a DI state championships and the people posting on this thread have won ZERO. Yet some of you think you are a football einsteins on here critiquing him.

MFHS_04Congratulations Hilliard Davidson!! Ignore all of the ridiculous non-sense some people are spewing on here! Thanks for bringing the "big one" home to Central Ohio!! From a Marion Franklin fan!!
-
FanOfCatsHoly Shit!
Way to go Cats! White and staff gets EVERYTHING out of his kids. While I was starting to doubt after the botched punt snap, the Cats NEVER did! Thanks to Ginn for for passing instead of letting your 6'6" (or whatever he is) to fall forward! But the Cats played lights out D and SOMEHOW didn't let the explosive offense of Glenville put up many points.
Congratulations Cats! You make our whole community, and central ohio, proud. No one can take away what you've accomplished and it will be a memory you cherish forever. Thanks for giving the parents and community the opportunity to go along for the ride.
Glenville, along with Elder, Colerain, Mentor, and in a way St X just keep shaking their heads at how Davidson does what they do.... keep it close and usually WIN. Teams just never see Davidson coming. You got the feeling during this game that Glenville thought their "athleticism" would be enough. One also gets the feeling that Glenville wasn't prepared for the subtleties of Davidson's game (2-point conversion, etc). Glenville was undisciplined and it hurt them.
Say what you want, but no one should question or dispute what this program and these seniors have accomplished! Davidson just keeps plugging away, plays lights out D and executes in the clutch. They simply Believe!
I watched the game in person, but I still don't know how Davidson could EVER move the ball against those giants on the D line for Glenville. They were just attacking our O line all night... but somehow we got the key blocks, and reads from Jake, that we needed. Amazing!
By the way, I understand OHSAA's desire to protect the players and the students by keeping fans from rushing the field... I really do! But the execution of that policy by the event staff and a couple of overzealous police was ridiculous! Do we really need K-9 patrol dogs barking and snapping at people? Do we really need a cocky security guard at the 50 pushing a parent (with a small child on their shoulders)? Do we really need to have a human wall of "event staff" keeping the team from going over to shake hands with their parents after winning a state championship? Again, I don't blame OHSAA, but I blame the 2-cent cop and local staff for poor implementation of a plan. I rarely complain about stuff like this, but if you were there you say how stupid it was.
Honestly, if I were the guy that got pushed (and subsequently arrested) I'd file a lawsuit for assault. He was pushed for no reason. He wasn't rushing the field. Perhaps he was running his mouth, but that doesn't give a cop the right to push someone for no reason.... especially when their is a small child in harm's way.
I'll post more once I settle down from this great victory.... probably in February!!! Congrats CATS!!! -

Cmhs74Congratulations to Hilliard Davidson on winning the Div 1 championship.
-
thedynasty1998Congrats to Davidson and way to represent Central Ohio!

straightarrowHmmm. Nobody is taking anything away from Davidson. Ginn has been beaten consistently in big games in NE Ohio by teams with inferior talent to his crew, e.g. their numerous losses to Iggy, this year's playoffs notwithstanding. Ginn has better raw talent to work with then EVERY coach in NE Ohio, year in and year out, yet this is the first year they even managed to win their region.
Is he a great influence on inner city kids? yes.
Is he an awful football coach? The answer to that is also yes. -
CardsFlyinHighGinn's coaching didnt drop the fourth down pass that would have sealed the game
-

Nope, but Ginn's coaching called the play that should have never been a pass that was dropped "that would have sealed the game."CardsFlyinHigh wrote: Ginn's coaching didnt drop the fourth down pass that would have sealed the game
