In 1984, Northwestern visited Hillsdale for what was the Falcons Homecoming game. The Huskies dressed at home and disembarked from their bus on that little side road that runs parallel to the stadium. Then they hid in the cornfield at the west end of the stadium waiting for the festivities to start.
While the band was playing softly and the queen was being crowned, BOOM!!! out of the cornfield comes the Northwestern team, screaming and yelling right through a portion of the band and over to their sideline. Naturally, the band messes up, the announcer messes up, it pretty much ruined the homecoming ceremony.
To this day, I still can't believe Tom Wolff (NWN head coach) wasn't fired the next day. It was a bush league, no class move that fired up Hillsdale, and they almost won. Which is saying something for the 80's Falcon teams.
THAT IS EFN CLASSIC!!!! LOL....Bush League...possibly (but im an @##hole)...but still...effn awesome...lmao -
THE4RINGZThe best part about Red Rum's story is that he seems so upset by the actions of the Huskies that night. You know he still chuckles every time he tells the story.
Bobcats stalk. -
thedemoralizer7what about the largest attendance at a wcal game?? i can think of the northwestern vs smithville game in 2006 or the rittman vs smithville game in 2005. those 2 games there was standing room only
-
THE4RINGZWhich WCAL stadium has the largest seating capacity? I am guessing Doylestown.
-
OQBDalton vs Smithville, I believe it was a regional final game that was played at Orrville....not sure the # but that has to be one of the highest attended WCAL games...all of wayne county was there.
-
sydflI am gonna go with Huskies....there were many last year talking how bad Dalton was going to whip them, that turned out not so good for Dalton. Same is being said this week all over the place...I think Huskies a little more fired up than normal for this one. Time will tell.....

This will happen this Friday...except, NW stands in a bare field and lets Cats go up by 40,and then show up in second half..Red Rum;895211 wrote:I'm going to throw a little spin on the WCAL best memory idea and give just the opposite, the worst memory.

1_beastWaynedale - Dalton games in the 80's ran close to 5k....thats pretty big for WCAL....used to be a pretty huge rival.....and i used to love Dalton girls...even if their boyfriends were jealous

1_beastBuncha losers!!!! Armchair QB's...I cant belive no one has a fricken story to tell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. RussellI want to hear something from Madman or Demoralizer!? Where are you guys at? Go Falcons, weren't you around at the beginning of Hillsdale's success? You have to have a story.
-
sydflI can tell you that 2010 season when NW played Waynedale and Hillsdale to close out the season was electric. Good hard fought ballgames mostly in the rain with plenty of heroics and drama.
You don't always have to go back 20 years for a good story-line. -
Go FalconsHave not always been a Falcon (graduated from Ashland) but IMO not much can top Week 10 vs. Norwayne for our first WCAL. Also my son's last home game. There was a very large crowd all though I do not know total.
The win at Bowling Green over PH in the last seconds was something also, the Falcon version of "The Drive" and the "Miraculous Reception" all wrapped up in about 50 seconds.
Worst memory 2007 week 10 at NWN that felt worse than the double OT loss at Dalton. -
WCLfanOne of my favorite Smithville games was 2003 against Waynedale. The Golden Bears were undefeated and had beaten Dalton two weeks prior 43-0. The Smithies were coming off a FG loss to Dalton and needed the win for the WCAL title. Waynedale jumped out to a 2 TD lead but the Smithies fought back, driving 98 yards for the game winning TD late in the 4th.
Worst memory was anytime we lost to Dalton -

was_that_itI have enjoyed reading everyone's memories, I remeber many of the games mentioned. A couple quick that come to mind for me mirror Go Falcons post above. The Hillsdale playoff games the last couple years have been memorable. Back in 07, that Dalton OT game I about threw a fit in the stands. Turnovers and the D couldn't get off the field. Northwestern game that year was disappointing, but I feel they were the better team that night. The Waynedale game that year was a good one as well. (I remeber reading 1_Beast's thoughts on another forum, good times!) I would have liked to watch that Falcon team play in the playoffs...bout half a point shy or somthing. Further back than that the Smithville/Delphos St Johns playoff game in 02 at Arlin field was a memorable game as well, sat on Delphos's side and their fans were less than impressed with how muddy the field was for a playoff game, both teams were on it though....I could probably type all night bout this stuff. Sorry to ramble.

footballnutNorwayne is #2 in D4 region 13. Good job Cats. It looks like that non league schedule must have been a little tougher than what my WCAL brethren were telling me......although it sounds like they made it look easy.

Red RumSince I gave a worst memory, I'll give a few of the best-
2001-Northwestern snaps a 16 year losing streak to Smithville winning 31-8 on the way to an 8-2 campaign. Thuts 2nd year at the helm.
2011-Smithville/Mogadore (half a WCAL memory) it was worth the admission price and the money I lost on the ghost 50/50 drawing. One for the history books.
1992 or 93?-Dalton playoff game vs McDonald at Uniontown Lake Stadium. I think the guys name was Santangelo. He broke a lot of the Dawg faithfuls hearts that night. Also about froze my nutsack off on those metal stands, hard to forget.
and finally.....
The Rittman alumni marching band. Haven't seen them in years but back in the mid 90's they were a sight to behold. About 20 members, mostly male, something like 15 drummers and a couple horn players. The drumline sported alot of ponytails, tat sleeved arms, cigarettes hanging from mouths. The Hells Angels would have run from this bunch. What a hoot. Rittman also knocked off Norwayne that evening in a typical late hit, cheap shot, penalty marred Indian/Cat game of that era. -

The WCAL went 10-14 in non conference. I hope not all 24 games were agsinst patsies. Regarding Norwayne, they need alot of points from the non league schedule. I don't think Northwestern, Rittman, Chippewa & Dalton are going to be of much help points wise. -

Their opponents are 3-3 against other opponents, which is pretty good. That's what I'm waiting to see out of Hillsdale. Their opponents are 1-5 against other teams (the one win coming against Rittman).footballnut;896240 wrote:Norwayne is #2 in D4 region 13. Good job Cats. I'm not thinking they've been tested at all yet.
