1486wdtalking about the huskies in the 90's I believe they were in the teens for numbers one year
-
Bloody ToothbrushNo great surprise about the Northwestern 7 on 7. The Huskies never seem to shine during these summer skill scrimmages.
The QB situation is interesting.......I think the sophomore has the most potential. I'd like to see him get the much needed experience for upcoming seasons when the team may be in a better position to really contend for the title.
As has been the case for the last few years.....Northwestern will live and die with their defense. Once again, after seeing these 7 on 7 battles, things look bad......but when all 11 get on the field the "D" will look much better.
Also......looks like all the hope for picking up a few "stud football" transfers from Black River & Cloverleaf didn't quite pan out....although I heard a kid transferred in who got a 33 on the ACT!!!
Looks like our Math team will be tough.
And for the record.....the thing that makes my gums bleed is reading posts by a fat cat irish construction company executive pretending he's a japanese cook!!!! -
Bloody Toothbrush
Yeah.....I don't doubt that one bit. Things got really bad in the 90's at Northwestern.1486wd;832011 wrote:talking about the huskies in the 90's I believe they were in the teens for numbers one year -
THE4RINGZOne of my nephews played at Smithville in the 90's and I remember attending a couple of NWN games where Smithville would win by 80+ points. A sad era.
-
footballnutAny word about Hillsdale or Norwayne in any 7 on 7?
-
Red RumThe 90's was truly a pathetic period for Husky Football. Getting trounced by 50 to 60 points a game was common.
I remember when the football culture here was so bad the coach actually said "I saw some good things out there tonight" after a 50 something to 0 defeat. I almost puked.
Mike Thuts arrival was the catalyst that changed the culture at Northwestern. The "johnny come lately-he didn't use the best offensive system or he didn't play my kid enough" crowd always seem to forget this fact.
I wish I could say I never felt the utter despair of present day Chippewa & Rittman fans, but old timer fans from Northwestern and Hillsdale know the feeling all too well......and it sucks. -
KardiacKidsAhhh...The Kid is back and i have a few picks for you......Hillsdale and Norwayne will be the class of the League this year with a huge dropoff after that.....Waynedale and Smithville will Fight for 3rd and you name it after that.............................As far as the Huskies go.........I lived Husky football through the 80's- Present........I am a true believer that in small school football the kids make the coach...(how can you argue this when one or two kids can make or break a team)..Did i just say "How can you argue this"......Uh OH...........................................If you have a line you win........Nothing against Thut or any other coach......You can bring in a great attitude a great system.......a great everything.......If you don't have those couple kids and a Line........you lose............ And thats why ladies and gentlemen even Bill Belichick could not have even coached the 90's Huskies or the current Chippewa Chips to a winning season!!! Lol..........Now....who has the Line this Year?........ I say Hillsdale Has the Beef!!! Hillsdale over Norwayne by a patty..................
-
Bloody ToothbrushSounds like KK has smoked one too many toadstools.......
There is no one area of the county where the kids grow bigger and stronger....everyone has those couple of athletes who are game changers.......and big kids live in every township....
The key is getting a good coach to get kids out and mold them into a cohesive unit. If you can do that well you start building a culture of winning......sustain that and you get tradition......
And tradition doesn't go 0-40!
.....however, teams that are run by kids, armchair QB Dads and school board mothers usually are the cause of 3 and 4 year losing streaks.
Mike Thut deserves a BUTT LOAD of CREDIT for Husky football fortunes!
It's completely ludicris to insinuate that somebody like Roche Harmon would have turned the program around if given more time because the only difference between him and Thut was that all of a sudden some beefy linemen just appeared in 2000.
Kardiac......no ill will, just a little humor, I respect your take....I just don't agree.
Red Rum....... much ill will, I hate agreeing with you....don't get used to it.
Beasty Boy........beware of Miyagi's japanese jello....its main ingrediant is "two scoops of untruth"
Miyagi.....in case you post during the coming week, here is my reply........You're FAT and you SUCK.
See you boys next weekend!!!!!!! -
footballnutI agree with Toothbrush. Coaching makes all of the difference in high school football. The community is also a large factor. Taking a football program that is struggling and building a winning tradition takes hard work. Thut has dome a fantastic job. One of the reasons for his success has been a strong youth program. He pointed that out when they won their last WCAL championship. A strong youth system is also one of the reasons for Norwaynes recent surge to the top of the WCAL. Hat's off to Thut and what he's done at Northwestern

1486wdcoaching absolutley makes a huge difference. That's the reason certain programs never fall that far - even when they don't have much talent (that combined with kids believing and expecting they will win). Every school has periods where they have more size/speed etc and are good. The natural talent gap from area school to school is not much different. Its those down years when they still finish 5-5, 4-6 that shows you what a program truly is. A "program is nothing more than coaching, history, and belief from the kids that they can and should win. Some point to youth football, but I still think it makes very little difference. How many times have you seen teams be good in youth/jr high only to be terrible in high school and vice versa. Answer - over and over again. It seemed like at Dalton, we were often terrible in jr high and always good in high school and we had no youth program. I'm not saying youth programs are bad, just that they are not as great as some like to think.

KardiacKidsOh Bloody................... I just felt Scotish there for a moment.........I didn't know you could smoke toadstools......we should get together and try that out!!!..........Thut deserves all the credit for bringing in that "Smithie" attitude....and you are right..Rock would not have been the answer wow ever wonder how many wins the Huskies would have got?...lol..........we can sit here all day and talk about any successful coach and say if he didn't have one of the best lines to ever come through the wayne county he would not have done well.....Or if this kid didn't get hurt ......or whatever.......Thut brought that Dynasty tradition and he deserves the credit ...A Butt Load Of It!!!!!!....There is a confucius say quote somewhere in that right Miyagi?!!! Ok enough about that i shall retreat back to my DogHouse..................Lucky I will bet you a Bloody Toothbrush, a Double Shot Red Rum and Some General Tso from Miyagi's Kitchen that Hillsdale beats Norwayne this year!!!!! We've subscribed to this theory in Orrville for decades. Success fosters tradition, which fosters a desire to continue that tradition, which fosters hard work to keep the tradition thriving.1486wd;833027 wrote:coaching absolutley makes a huge difference.
