I will give you 48 hours to provide every football player from Warren, OH that attends Ursuline and Mooney.

In 48 hours if you don't provide the list, you are nothing more than a coward.. Start searching buddy.

I'm hearing that it may well be Reardon and that he may indeed bring some players he recruited at Ursuline . What a classic -- bringing players he recruited from other public schools ( you know those parochials don't "recruit", lol ) to Ursuline back to a public school with him.

    Priceless, lol

No but I get punished for translating it. Some mods need to get down off their pedestal and realize that bein a mod on a free site draws about as much respect as bein a mall cop....put away the whistle and flashlight little buddy.

On topic, this is a perfect opportunity for Reardon. He would be foolish not to take this if offered. He basically runs a D1 program now, difference is he'll get a D1 paycheck. It's worth it for that alone.

I hope you folks realize the St. Ed's job was his for the taking either last year or the year before when they were looking for a new coach. Ursuline found a way to keep him and they will find a way to keep him yet again this year.

True, but not having to uproot his family could make it quite appealing.

Unapproving a post isn't a punishment, and doesn't mean you did anything wrong at all. When someone does say something they shouldn't, I unapprove posts that reply to the offending post(s) simply to maintain some flow... it's hard to read a thread where there are responses to something that was removed. It just looks like you're talking to yourself, lol.

It's not about drawing respect. Trust me, the last thing I care about is what anyone here thinks of me. I'm on here a lot, so they have me enforce some rules, no big deal.

Anyone with any knowledge of WGH within the past 10 years would have to agree that Rears would be the first name that comes to mind. Talking with him when he was ready to leave WGH, he did comment on how much he was going to miss the kids. I also know that the kids liked him and he's a pretty good teacher. That being said, I don't know if that's enough for him to leave Ursuline. The one big point may be that I do not believe that the years spent teaching @ a parochial would count towards his retirement package from the state. Maybe someone else with more knowledge could enlighten me, perhaps? After talking with someone who will be in charge of the search, I was told it will be a wide-open search this time, unlike the last one.

i believe you are right about the parochial teaching not counting towards your pension??

You are nothing more than a COWARD! As expected, you could not same a single player on the Ursuline or Mooney roster from the City of Warren, OH. Congratulations on your designation.

parochial years do not count towards your retirement. they dont contribute to the teachers retirement system.

Parochial teaching/coaching is under S.S. and any private pension system they have. Public pensions are based only on public service.

This is the time for Kopachy from Salem to move on. Moved to Salem for a few years where the talent was going to be rich. Got the best out of them, but now it's going to go back down. He's been an up and comer since his days at Western Reserve, this would be a good shot at getting a big time job. I think he should apply, wouldn't make him popular in Salem. But he needs to get out of Salem ASAP, we're going to go back to mediocrity AT BEST.

Where are we here? Any big rumors flying around the Warren area?

they just started to take statewide applications on monday.
  • wghfan
Some of the names that have applied are Reardon, Vivo, Robert Andrews- Glenville staff, Matt Richardson- Solon staff, and Todd Filtz head coach Maple Heights. My favorite to get the job is Filtz from Maple Heights.

I've heard Angle from Howland is up there and perhaps a previous coach that Harding ran out of town in the last decade lol... Have heard otherwise on Reardon...
  • wgh raider
i doubt your right on either of those 2 ???
  • wghfan
I heard they interviewed 4 of the applicants today. Yes, Reardon was one of them. They will interview 4 more Thursday. Still my pick to get the job is Todd Filtz.

Harding to talk to eight coaches

WARREN - It's getting down to serious business as Warren G. Harding High School begins the process of selecting its next football coach.

Eight candidates from a field of 26 applicants will interview today. The field will be reduced to three or four candidates that will go through a second round of interviews Monday.

Paul Trina, director of athletics, hopes to have a coach to present for approval to the board of education by March 4.

"It's a good list," Trina said. "There are a lot of quality head coaches. When you put out a job description, you always put down head-coaching experience preferred. One of the reasons you put it down is that you're not sure how many applicants there will be and what type of quality you're going to get.

"We had enough quality head coaches that we could go with what we preferred. We're excited to go through the process. We believe it's important that the community has input and they will get to know these candidates and be advocates to the community once we get finished and say that who we picked is a quality candidate."

The eight candidates include Devlin Culliver, Tom Bruney, Luke Ethington, Todd Filtz, Dan Reardon, Rick Rios, Jeff Bayuk and Anthony Thornton.

Culliver has coached at Painesville Harvey, Warrensville Heights and East Cleveland Shaw.

Bruney coaches at Brooke High School in West Virginia.

Ethington coaches at Maurice J. McDonough High School in Maryland.

Filtz has coached the last three seasons at Maple Heights High School.

Reardon, a former Harding assistant, led Ursuline to the last three Division V state championships.

Rios coaches at Toledo Rogers High School.

Bayuk has coached at Canfield, Hubbard and Campbell Memorial.

Thornton coaches at Columbus Brookhaven High School.

Each candidate will meet with four groups totaling 28 people today, including the athletic commission, a five-member group that includes Trina, Superintendent Kathryn Hellweg, Principal Ruth Zitnik and two members of the school board.

Included among the other three groups are members of the educational system, booster organizations, parents and former players.

After input is gathered from each of the four groups, the final candidates will be selected. They will be interviewed only by the athletic commission.

The football program has been without a head coach since the contract of former coach D.J. Dota wasn't renewed Jan. 18. There's no question that the school system wants to get a head coach in place as soon as possible because of offseason conditioning.

"We're fortunate that our senior leadership on the team has been very strong," Trina said. "We've managed to maintain the weight room, and the seniors have taken on a strong leadership role and have maintained a level of conditioning so that we wouldn't be completely down.

"We're not exactly where we'd like to be. There is a sense of urgency because we want the guy who's running this program to not only be working with those kids but to be checking the school and getting a staff put together. There's a lot of work that needs to be done."

Trina is confident that the interview process will generate a quality coach.

"When you look at the candidates that have applied and the championship experience they have, this is still one of the best high-school jobs in the state of Ohio," Trina said. "The reason for that are all the tradition and the facilities and the desire of the community to want to see their football program be successful.

"That's not to say that other people don't have good football programs. Those are things that are earned over a long period of time. It's something a new coach can build on when you're trying to uphold a tradition that was developed with a lot of sweat, blood and tears of people that went before you. It's a different level of football and a different level of expectations."
