Hoover's Erick Howard Named Mr. Football

Based on what? Can you provide some other players stats to compare?Tiger2003 wrote: I don't always agree with the winner of this award. Howard was not even the leading rusher in all of Ohio if this was just based on offensive stats alone. But I mean BUT. Mr. Ohio is is voted on as the best players in all of the state.....Not just offense.....
Offensive Stats: 337 Carries, 2,056 Yards, 6.1 Average, 27 Touchdowns
Defensive Stats: 102 tackles, 5 TFL's, 3 Sacks, 4 Caused Fumbles, 1 Interception
Now I really believe that shows he is the best all around player in the State this year. -
SQ_CraziesExactly, post some other stats. In Salem we have a QB that accounted for more than 3,000 yards (2,000+ in the air, 1,000+ on the ground) this year and played LB and I would guess led the team in tackles. 3 picks, 2 for TD's. Not sure what his tackle count was though, but I wouldn't nominate him for Mr. Football. I'd say he's a pretty good all-around player and he led his team to the playoffs for the first time ever (after 0-10 last season). Don't act like he's the only one playing, and dominating, both ways.
-
SQ_CraziesAnd again, I'm absolutely not trying to debate that Howard's stats aren't incredible.

Go_Fast_SportsI just LOVE how people discredit Howard as not deserving...
1. He achieved over 2,000 yards rushing in DIVISION 1, and in the FEDERAL LEAGUE CONFERENCE. AND he played DEFENSE too.
I'd really like to see Heard, Macon, or any other names mentioned do those feats under the same circumstances. It wouldn't happen. Howard is a beast, and a pure athlete.
Play one down in his shoes.. and you will understand why he got it two years in a row.
Not to mention, he broke those Stark County rushing records, home of several ALL-Ohio rushers. -

Ummm, you're using the Federal League as proof that he is deserving? Not helping your argument there.Go_Fast_Sports wrote: I just LOVE how people discredit Howard as not deserving...

My fault..I think you were meaning that Erick Howard was going to end up there or something. That's why I deleted it.Mooney44Cards wrote: I wasn't comparing community college to a penitentiary, Ray Williams went to jail after high school. -

B/c I just so happen to have been on that thread when it was posted. Whereas..I wasn't at the computer when the comment was made about September. It was deleted..yet..he still continues to comment about it? :huh:Mooney44Cards wrote: Mine lasted about 5 minutes. -
Mooney44CardsThanks for the explanation GoChiefs, lord knows JJ's would have just ignored me or deleted all posts referring to that post.
-
GoChiefsNo problem..contrary to what some may believe..I'm just trying to keep the nonsense down and run a good place for football talk! And be fair about it to everyone.

ss7I understand people feeling that others my be more deserving of the award than Howard, but to act like this is totally ridiculous and that Howard in no way should possibly have won this award is crazy. I personally think that Heard should have won this award but you can't just disregard Howard's stats.

Your guy didn't even make the finals list! This award includes many factors. Howard has overcome a lot in his life to achieve all of his success on the football field. He is the ALL TIME LEADING RUSHER in Stark County and that is quite an achievment. He meant more to his team than almost any other player in the state. Take your guy off of your team and somebody else still gain at least 1,000 yards with that line and those plays. Also, please take the Traficant pic away. It makes you look super silly and ignorant. -

LOL, the Federal League. Mooney plays one of the toughest schedules in the state--probably the toughest a lot of times--every year. Heard put up ridiculous numbers with what? 36% of the Mooney carries? And doesn't Heard play defense too? No one is taking it away from Howard, we just don't think he should have won it. You guys that are saying we aren't giving him his due are refusing to see anyone else as well. But the argument was lost for whoever brought up the Federal League. With most of his teams carries, Heard seriously could have ran for 3 or 4 thousand yards playing that league schedule. And yes I know how many yards that is...and no, I'm not joking. -
GoChiefsHe COULD have being the key word there..they don't go by what you COULD have ran for. Which is why IMO..him getting only 36% of the carries is not something that was even taken into consideration.

Numbers mean Jack squat!
Kenton can be up by 50 and Mauk will still be throwing passes!
I like Matty Mauk, but his dad pads his stats just like he used to pad Ben's! -
tank2nastyI really liked how Heard performed against Big Red,that was definitely a Mr.Football worthy performance, but to say Howard doesn't deserve it is crazy!
There were alot of worthy candidates, but Mr.Football is an MVP award given to the player most important to his teams success!
Without Howard Hoover would have really struggled this year as well as last year!
He does deserve this award and congratulations to him on now being a 2 time Mr. Football! -

I agree with your point about Mauk but I disagree with the statement that numbers mean jack squat. Numbers are exactly what football players are judged on, but you do have to consider the competition against which the numbers are compiled.tank2nasty wrote:

That came out wrong! I was really just saying numbers are misleading, and you have to be careful reading into numbers!ss7 wrote:
