Who is favored to win OHSAA titles in 2011? Analyze your team and a few others.

DthaneHow does your team stack up? Playoff contender? Regional Finalist? State Championship? Who do you think goes deep in the playoffs an/or wins it all?
I am going to say Dover with their returning QB should be poised for a playoff run if they are in Region 11. I know that's not going out on a limb and they are losing some key components, may still have Marlington and Big Red to contend with, but have to be considered favorites. Big Red lost alot of players, especially lineman, have some nice young players returning, and I trust that Reno and his staff will have the Red in the playoffs.
I also have to think that Ursuline was so much better than anyone in DIV, V, and VI that I don't know how with the run they are on they can't be considered odds on favorite, even without Teague. I honestly don't know what else they lose this year. -
dhs22pWell the the Divisions and regions will change again this year so we might have to wait to make favorites for next season.
-
OhioStud22Ill say Bishop Hartley because I know personally that they wont move up to D3 or drop to D5 but I think Bishop Hartley has another chance of being playoff contenders. They lose a lot of people but the people filling in are also really good and they return Woodley and Zang for the skill positions and they also have them for defense along with Bell and Matuska. I think if they can get a solid line like they did this year on defense and offense then I believe they have the chance to repeat but as of right now their chances are very slim but we will see how this will turn out to be. Also I heard that they will be playing Akron Hoban so that will be an exciting game to see and their schedule will be harder then was this year so we will see if the Hawks can fly high again.
-
WaltPick Central should be in the mix again. They return 8 of 11 players who rotated on the defensive front 7, and 3 DBs who saw extensive playing time. So they'll have a lot of returning experience from a defense that gave up only 6 touchdowns in 12 games.
On offense they return a QB, 3 linemen, tight end, fullback, 2nd leading RB, and two WRs.
And they return all specialists (punter, kicker, long snapper). -
september63Please dont put Dover up there as any type of favorite? Dover hasnt was anything compared to Big Red. Marlington has their big 3 players all back next year, too.

fpfpdadchhNow that Canal Fulton Northwest has stability in the football program after the levy / income tax passed, I can see them being good next year and maybe for the next couple of years. They were very young last year and they had some strong players out of the JV and Freshmen teams. Independent schedule next year will be really tough, but with enough success in regular season to get them into playoffs, that expereince will have them battle ready for a possible title run. Plus the trump card of Whiting as coach is always a factor.

Did you guys lose any/many kids? The rumors were rampant that kids would be hittin the door running for Jackson, Perry & Manchester. -

Will there ever be a Massillon/Northwest meeting? -
fpfpdadchhAs far as I know, we did not lose many students. The team was very young this year and really did not know their identity as a team until midseason. They started out as a passing - heavy spread offense that could not keep the opposing defense honest. They started running more out of the spread and became a lot more competitve. The special team play was very suspect at the beginning of the year, but improved as the year went on.
Its hard saying if we will ever see a Massillon vs Northwest matchup. It would be intriguing. I am originally from Barberton, so I was used to the rivalry between Barberton and Massillon in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. -
skank
During the scrimmage this year, I thought you guys may be better than most people think, that big lefy qb looked like he could take over a game by himself, and you had some recievers that caught everything. How many of those guys are coming back?fpfpdadchh;597528 wrote:As far as I know, we did not lose many students. newarkcatholicfanI am using the roster I have plus adding one player a freshman who played some varsity this past season.
So according to the roster I have if Newark Catholic brings back all of those players (24)
The break down
12 will be seniors
14 will be juniors
2 will be soph's
I am not sure how many players were on the Freshman team but was told the numbers were not that high.
The JV team went 6-3 losing to Olentangy , Heath and Licking Valley. The were shutout in all of those games.
The beat Ridgewood, Nelsonville York, Lakewood, Academy, Bexly and Whitehall.(I believe that is correct)
The Freshmen was 7-2(they had been undefeated from 5th grade though their 8th grade year according to a player I spoke to)
They were defeated by Bishop Hartley 22-20 and licking Valley 22-15. They had wins over Watkins Memorial , Nelsonville York, Granville,Lakewood, Teays Valley, Bexly and Whitehall.
The schedule is the same as last season.(As far as to whom they play)
I can see this happening in 2011
(League games will be in a different order I believe)
Harvest Prep-Loss
Nelsonville-York -Win
Fisher Catholic-Win
Lakewood-Win
Heath-Loss
Columbus Academy-Loss
Bexly-Win
Licking Valley-Loss
Whitehall-Win
Granville-Loss
5-5 record
2012 2013 2014 2015 Should be very good years for Newark Catholic if you look at the talent they have coming up through the system. If those players remain at N.C and play football.
The 8th grade class only had from what I was told 14 players and four of them I have been told is going back to schools in Knox County leaving a lot of doubt if there will be a Freshmen team in 2010.(That's if what I was told holds true)Again this is on things I heard so take it for what it is worth.
The 8th grade team gave up two points all season.
I am not sure what the 7th grade class did.
I was told they are very good too.

What do you mean...."back"? -
newarkcatholicfanWith the way players are leaving Newark Catholic along with players not going back out for the team who knows which players will be out in 2011.
-
skankI'll ask again, what do you mean...."back"?
-
newarkcatholicfanThought I just took the time to answer your question.

This doesn't answer my question of what you mean by...."back". -

People can't be this slow, can they?!
Skank is asking this because by you saying "going back" it implies that the kids did not start at the private grade school. Basically...he wants to turn another thread into one where there's a lot of whining about recruiting.
Get it now? -
skankNCF's post said:

I asked him to define the word "back" in the context that he used the word. So far he has failed to do that. In the spirit of the goings on around here for the last month or so, (and since the inception of private schools), I think this is a fair question. -
coyotes22I have no dog in this fight, but, I too have a question.
If Newark CHS is in Licking County,,,, Why would kids go back to Knox County?
Serious question.
It would be like me saying that Massillon is losing kids back to Wayne County. -

So I guess you were so stupid you did not get it.
Minor league. -

Oh, I get it, when HE doesn't answer questions it's ok because he's a parochial school guy. -

Looks like I ain't the only one who wants answers....Too bad the OHSAA isn't interested in answers. -
skankLook, this is a serious question. I didn't get on this thread looking to start Pub/Pri II, but with that very subject causing so much of a stir, someone from a parochial school using the words, kids are "going BACK", is going to raise some questions.
-
GoChiefsOK, enough about public/parochials on this thread please. We have enough of them already, we don't need another one.
