Go Griffs!!!
MY ignorance? My ignorance? How many posts have you made this year without the "Paper Tigers" tag in it? Please, Massillon may never be mistaken for Beverly Hills....But it will ALWAYS....ALWAYS be head and shoulders above that waste land known as Akron.
By the way, enjoy this years victory against the Tigers....history says it doesn't happen that often....Oh, wait....your actually a Akron North fan bandwagoning the Buchtel kids....You know what I say to that? Your nothin but a....Aw, forget it, if North was my team I'd bandwagon someone else too. -
VikingPrayers go out to skank's tortured soul.
Back to the game.
Let's hear from some Watterson fans about this matchup.
Go Griffs!!! -
sherm03Buchtel will be making their fifth state championship appearance. All of their appearances prior to this have been in D4. They are looking to wrap up the third football State Championship.
Watterson will be playing in their fourth state championship game. Surprisingly, they only have one title.
Looking forward to this game. Tough for me to pick. I think this one will be one of the best games of the weekend. -

Try D-2 they took D-2 titles in 87 and 88 from Steubenville... they never played in d-4 get it right -
VikingThis indeed will be the 5th state title game for the Akron Buchtel Griffs. They are 2-2 in title games. They won D II titles in 1987 and '88 over Steubenville Big Red. Those games were at OSU. Their coach was current Firestone HC T. Flossie and their star RB was current Buchtel HC Ricky Powers. On a side note a nephew of Coach Flossie is the DL coach now at Buchtel. The Griffs lost back to back D II championship games in 1995 and '96. Those teams were also coached by T. Flossie. In '95 the Griffs lost 21-14 to Fostoria. I was at that game. Buchtel was in control until midway through the 4th QT. The Griffs came undone and Scioto was led by future Buckeye Nick Goings. The '96 squad lost 14-6 to Fostoria. Both of those games were played in Massillon. I'm hoping that the Griffs can win their first D III championship and improve their overall record in title games played at Massillon to 1-2.
Go Griffs!!! -
sherm03Sorry. It was a typo. I meant D2...not D4.
You would think the guy who can't spell Ursuline or Delphos wouldn't be so quick to jump about a typo... -
justcompeteThis will be a classic game featuring a wide open speed offense against a ball control up the middle team. Both have very good defenses. Should be fun. GO EAGLES!!
-
NWIndianNation01I also think this will be a very good game! Couldn't believe how bad Buchtel whipped Marlington...hopefully this one will be a bit closer. I will stick with my bracket prediction and say Watterson wins in a barn burner!
-
Pick6I'll be rooting for Buchtel..but i think Watterson wins
-
clickclickboomGo Watterson!!!

FairwoodKingIt all comes down to which Buchtel team shows up. I saw them play Pittsburgh CC, and believe me, if that team shows up, Watterson will have a field day. On the other hand, if the team that slam dunked Mooney and Marlington shows up, Watterson will leave the stadium with their tail between their legs.

HeathAlum21My predictions have been so poor this postseason that I think I will just hope for a competitive game. I have seen Watterson and am looking forward to seeing Buchtel on the field.

finster4307Home or away...doesn't matter...4 more days...and he won't be denied!
Ricky Powers returns to glory in 2010. -
VikingI think that the QB play for both teams will decide this game.
Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Griffs? Who dat? Who dat?!? -
NWIndianNation01Does anyone have info on strengths, weaknesses, star player to watch and kicking game info for both teams?
-
ThinthickbigredI think we have a chance this week ....I saw Buhctel play against PCC and the score should have been closer they blocked two punts and scored like 20 points in a matter of minutes......Akron looks very speedy and talented ...They are on the major rise again ....I remember those 87 and 88 games ..that 88 game hurt ..Powers ran all over us but Hython was really good in that game as well so was Yetts ..A great title game if your a Buhctel fan ....We are naow good rivals ..Steubenville vs Akron ..I love seeing a city school team do so well ...I get sick of catholic school fans that I know personnally always say teams like that have no discipline or they are not as well coached as the mighty catholic schools....I saw how those guys were coached first hand and I was impressed ....With the talent and coaching .I think Akron will indeed win this game ....Good luck Griffs!!!!

I don't know very much about Watterson, but I can give you a little bit of a rundown for Buchtel. They don't really have any "stars", but they have 9-11 guys that are interchanable parts with excellent football quickness and speed. They play 2 QB's. Parker is a very good at making something out of nothing. He runs QB sweeps. He can drop back and throw the deep ball. He is excellent at running around and then hitting passes or turning up field for significant gains. Jones is a very good straigh ahead runner out of the QB spot and good at short and medium range passes. They often are on the field at the same time with 1 as the QB and the other as a WR usually (slot too). You don't always know which 1 will throw the ball. They both are good WR's. They also use the wildcat formation sometimes. They have 3-4 RB's. All with above average speed. They don't really have a big bruising straight ahead RB, but Oden does prettry weel on inside runs. Smith (WR) is a budding star. Ohio State is looking at him now. He is a JR. He has burner speed, excellent hands and very good leaping ability to go along with some strength. He took a ball away from a Marlington defender last week and scored a TD. His other TD came a circus style catch. Another WR is the defending D II or D III state 100 and 200 meter champ. He has ok hands. They get the ball to him on reverses, pitches/tosses, and throws. When he gets in space it is almodt a sure TD.
Their D is extremely fast as a team. They fly to the ball and gang tackle. They have scored 13 TD's on defense. Nobody has had much success throwing deep on they. Counters, short passes and play action passes are your best bet along with a straight ahead ground attack. Nobody has been able to run outside or attack the edges in any way really against them this season. They are undersized on the line (light really) but lightening quick. Most teams have had a very difficult time blocking them. -
VikingIs anybody going to give us a rundown for Watterson?
