Orrville guys go all over the wcal thread and wish teams good luck, and other than you their may be 1 other guy that says good luck to us....we know they want us to lose.

Mr Miyagi always wishes orrville good luck. Miyagi says just because we dont always agree with posters doesnt mean we hope orrville loses.
By the way, Miyagi went to ashland u to watch a game fri and hooked up with Red Rum and Bloody Toothbrush. The toothbrush made for an interesting night. you may not believe it but he actually is a little worse in person!
Miyagi wishes GOOD LUCK to orrville.
Miyagi also hopes BRF doesnt have any trouble parking without a parking attendant.:)
If you guys cant wrangle up any Chagrin fans maybe Miyagi can volunteer to be the Devils advocate ?
  • OQB
Haha, thanks Miyagi! You just might have to do that, or Genoa will still be figuring out ways we cheated...either way I can't wait for Friday night!

I can only imagine how your experience was Friday night, Haha better you than me!

I'm a COUNTY guy and I ain't eatin' nuthin'. I picked Orrville. I'm picking O-ville again.....this week its going to be a closer game....almost a coin flip. I still give the Riders the nod in schedule strength but not by a huge margin. Chagrin and O-ville are kind of similar, replacing lots of guys from last years teams and still getting it done.
The biggest difference will be in the parking lot.....O fans driving Chevys and Fords.....Tiger fans in Beamers and Benz's.
The smallest difference will be on the scoreboard 22-21 Orrville.
The X factor.....I heard Pirman hurt his knee late in the game....Is he good to go?....Riders need him healthy.

BTW....hangin' with Miyagi ain't no picnic, besides his annoying 3rd person persona, he and Red Dumb actually defend "Bloated Rider Fan" and his pet donkey troll "OrrQB".

PS....This is my last week on the Rider bandwagon. Alter will spank Hartley and Region 16 will take the state championship by 28. Thats next week though, take care of this weeks business.
  • BRF
Welcome fellas...even you, Bloody Toothbrush (that's a new one you made up there)! Well, the day of celebration is over and time to prepare for the next hurdle. I wonder if the Downtown Orrville shindig will be cancelled for Friday night. It should be.

I have seen about 1 1/2 quarters of Chagrin and Manchester. Chagrin is good, very good. As good as any team we have played this year. They are big, physical, and they like to get after it. They are much like us. They have athletes to match ours, or vice versa, However you want to look at it. Mostly a spread team but they run out if a lot too....like us. In the one back set the QB will ride the dive back much like Wooster tried. I think we'll be all over that. I think from what little I have seen they will try to get the edges on us with jet sweeps and rely on the pass. They prefer short stuff and then let their athletes make moves....which they did and ate up Manchester.....but it was Manchester, The best team they had played all year was Triway. I think they were shell shocked by the athleticism and physical play the Tigers. Can't let that happen.

Defensively they looks big and very active. They pin their ears back and come hard...maybe too hard sometimes. As like the last 3 play off teams whoever makes the fewest mistakes will win. It can be us for sure, but it will not happen any other way...and it shouldn't. Tackling is key this week. Most all there big plays, and most of their scores were long yardage. Should have been stopped for short gain with a good tackle.....it speaks to there ability. Looks like it is gonna be cold. Chagrin is in the snow belt....shouldn't bother them, I hope we adapt well.
  • CF Tigers
I am looking to get some info about your Red Riders! From what I read it seems these teams mirror each other. Should be a great game. How is Medina? The Nordonia stadium was fantastic. Manchester was not very good. Hopefully your local paper will finally give you the respect you deserve. I really thought this game was going to be played last year in the final 4.
  • OQB
Bloody, welcome to the dark side :D Thanks for those kind words! Sounds like the three of you (Red Rum, Miyagi, Bloody) had a great time at the game, haha.

5knots, I remember watching this team last year in the state finals....They are VERY similar to us! If we can play the recievers like we did against Triway/Elyria Catholic with just man up coverage making them actually work to get open with Drew over top, I have faith in our front 6-7 to stop that runninng game.

It's going to come down to execution, turnovers, and of course in the trenches.

I'm a county guy, too, and I ALWAYS root for the Wayne County area schools in the playoffs, just as I was rooting on Orrville last week! Just because I pick against them doesn't mean I don't want them to win. And just 'cuz my score was wrong doesn't mean I have any crow to eat. I'm hoping for a repeat performance this week from Orrville to get another 'W' and advance to the state championship!

Here are my thoughts after seeing Chagrin Falls in person on Friday.

First things first, they are a VERY well-rounded team on offense and defense. Going into last week their leading rusher had something like 500-some rushing yards with the second leading rusher with 400-some. However, don't let this fool you. They spread the ball to a number of people in their offensive attack, very different than Genoa. Chagrin Falls' #33 was a speedy kid who ran a lot of toss sweeps and caught the ball well out of the backfield. They also have a 6'4" 200 lb. wide reciever/tight end who made a number of big plays down the field, so they're not afraid to stretch the field. They did absolutely whatever they wanted in the first half against Manchester, running and throwing. But to give perspective, though, Manchester's defense this year hasn't been spectacular. It's been their offense that won games for them. Having said that, the Panthers were lucky to get a few first downs through the first three quarters when they had the ball.

On offense Chagrin Falls' most common formation was shotgun with a RB on each side of the QB. They ran and threw equally out of this formation with a lot of motion from slot receivers. They did have a number of different formations they used throughout the game, though, but primarily stuck with the shotgun 2 RB set. Unlike some teams who run the same type of runs all game, Chagrin ran a number of different plays from the backfield, with some power runs straight up the middle, misdirection and counters, toss sweeps, and the like. The QB didn't run that much at all, though. If he didn't hand it off to any of 3 RB's in the backfield or in motion, he was most likely throwing the ball. In Chagrin's passing game, they were just as diverse as their running game, throwing a number of flat passes, screens, mid-range balls in the middle and outside of the field, as well as stretching the ball down field through the air. One thing's for sure: Orrville will need to guard the whole field and use the athletes they have at every position to slow down Chagrin's offense.

The main thing I noticed about Chagrin Falls' defense is that their DB's are VERY athletic, were right in the pocket of Manchester's fastest kids all night allowing little to no breathing room during routes, and had some good instincts and timing (and some "mad ups) to deflect jump balls and otherwise well-thrown balls. Not all Manchester's WR's were as good as Orrville's, but for the most part they couldn't get open other than a few flats passes which still had to be perfectly thrown. Their DB's were definitely their strength, IMO, since Manchester seemed to do pretty well running the ball up the middle and to the left side (I don't think they ran to the right side once all night); but that could have been because Manchester came out throwing against them and tried to throw all night, thus opening up the run game a little. I'm not sure why they didn't stick to the run more than they did. Either way, Chagrin Falls' defense is still very good all around and kept Manchester in tough 3rd down conversion situations. Chagrin Falls has good team size and team speed. Their offensive and defensive lines looked big and pretty athletic, but nothing that Orrville hasn't seen before. Chagrin Falls will blitz on just about every play!

Having talked a little bit about Chagrin Falls (I'm not "praising" them, just saying what I observed Friday night), here are my thoughts on the match-up with Orrville:

Run the ball! I really think the Red Riders will be able to open a few holes against the Chagrin Falls' D-line. Manchester only had 1 big play all night, so the LB's did a nice job of cleaning up around the 4-5 yard mark, but they were getting some yardage. Simpson and Monheim are going to be a much better backfield tandem than what Chagrin Falls saw last week, since Manchester just kept Noble in the backfield and didn't use Logan much at all (1 rush). Monheim up the middle and Simpson stretch the width of the field will make Chagrin Falls' defensive front think. I really think the Red Riders can do some damage on the ground, if they keep up what they've been doing. Then I'm sure that Brenner, Turner, Pirman, and company will be able to do some damage in the passing game. CF ran lots of man-to-man coverage in the defensive backfield against Manchester, but they may or may not be able to do that against Orrville. Time will tell how their DB's react. Manchester only threw the deep ball when the game was in the bag (lots of flats passes and mid-range game), so they didn't really stretch the ball as much as Orrville will be able to on any down in any situation. Chagrin Falls had some pretty athletic kids in the return game and will need to be contained. They seem like they could break a big return at any time, but their return guys are nothing compared to Turner. LoL!

Manchester's defense was tough all year, but they were not nasty. If Orrville shows up with their "swag" and a nasty attitude on defense and makes Chagrin Falls punt a couple times in the first half, the Red Riders will be right where they want to be. On offense, if they can establish the run against Chagrin Falls, that should hopefully open up some breathing room for Orrville's WR's against Falls' good cover corners. Early in the year after I saw Orrville and Manchester for the first time each, I really thought both teams were about equal in all phases of the game (with a slight edge to Orrville on defense). Now I see a HUGE advantage to Orrville on the defensive end. They'll need to step up on defense and slow down Chagrin Falls to win this game. And as we've seen many times in the past, they can do that in the big game!

I think I will wait until later this week to make a prediction (I have no problem making predictions), but this is definitely a game Orrville can win. No doubt! But obviously, since any team at this point in the tournament is pretty darn good, the Red Riders will need to play a complete game!

Good luck, Red Riders! You have your hands full again this week (much better team than Genoa, IMO), but Chagrin Falls has their hands full, too. :)

Welcome n00b! Median is fantastic facility. Turf was put down in '06, so very good shape. Top notch locker rooms and good parking all over.

As for the teams....refer to my post up a couple for what I have seen so far.

We are similar to you in what we try to, with the exception of we may run out of the power I more? I did not see that from you that I remember. We are not as big up front as you, but athletically, I think we match up well. We have faced 4 games this season against the top 6 passing offenses in the State. Fuller(Ashland), Reaser(EC), Carmichael(Triway x 2). That should have prepared us well for the pass. Our QB is (was...now that he has 13 games in) a Sophomore. he is key...my guess is you will come after him hard....we are used to that....that is how I would play us also. Other than that we are most all Juniors/ Seniors. I may as well stop here and tell you that you can get a ton of info on www.redridersportsblog.com

88 is going to Nebraska....DE/OLB 6'5" 225lb and he can run a 4.51 40. He needs to be accounted for defensively and on offense he is our TE. 25 is a Junior and already has an offer from Illinois MLB...6'1" 215 , also under 4.6 in the 40 he is also a RB on offense. Our defense is fast, and will need to be. #1 runs a 4.40 wr/cb Junior 1st team all district. #11 is 6'4" and can jump a 33" vertical...very athletic WR/S and punts. Line is veteran mostly Seniors. Go to the blog...you will enjoy it!

Medina has a very nice facility with a lot of room. The only thing I can say is the field seems far away, and the PA system is well horrible...but who goes to the game for the PA system? haha

    A Little info about Orrville:

    Key Players are as follows:

QB: Kyle Lichti 6'1" 175 closing in on 2,000 yards passing and 20 td's only a sophomore!
RB/DB: Tre Simpson 6'1" 180 Over 1,100 yards rushing with a total of 20 td's (rushing/recieving) lock down corner as well. Senior
RB/LB: Mason Monheim 6'1" 215 close to 600 yards rushing and 9 td's, Best LB you will have seen all year. Offers from Illinois all MAC schools Visited Michigan, Nebraska, Cincy Only a Junior
WR/DB: Drew Brenner 6'4" 180 about 600 yards receiving and 8 td's. Great all around athlete. Junior
WR/DB: Stewart Turner 6'1" 175 600 yards receiving and 10 td's, 4.4 speed Electric return man and lockdown corner. Also only a Junior
    TE/DE: Max Pirman 6'6" 225 300 yards recieving 4 td's, 7-8 sacks on the year.....Nebraska bound Senior

    O-line is probably an average 6'1" 230
Soild kicker with 4 FG's on the year.

I also might add that if you try to stop one or two guys, one or two other guys will beat you....it has happened every week and different guys each week step up to the occasion. We will take what the Tigers give us.
  • 5knots
    Sound just like Chagrin......multiple weapons.

Agreed. Both teams have a NUMBER of weapons to choose from on offense, and both teams have very good, physical defenses. This should be a great game! As someone said earlier, Chagrin Falls played a great schedule, too, so both teams are used to playing good, big, athletic, tough teams. This game should be a battle!
  • OQB
Let's just hope they don't slip Brian Robiskie in there :D

Thanks PIT for the review....helpful...kind of the take I got as well from what little I have seen .

Check out the PAC-7 picks page final standings.....and the winner is....OLD RIDER!

Thats the first time I have won something in a long time and all I get is a self-inflicted "pat on the back"!

Go Red Riders...follow in my winning ways!
  • CF Tigers
Don't think we will slip in Robiskie. Great blog. Only thing missing for me was access to a roster. How big is the line? How big is biggest lineman. CF strength is actually their DL. DBs get a lot of work bc teams have been unable to run on them. DL is all Seniors, LB are all Juniors. DBs are a blend of 10,11,12. Offensively, the O line is strong. 3 returning starters from last year. Skill is awesome. Geraci was lost to injury but #33 is just as good. #32 is leading rusher. Both kids are 10th graders. Big targets at WR. Team plays fast. QB is a senior. Threw for over 300 last week

    Old Rider,

If it makes you feel any more awesome, you had the best record of the three web sites and were the overall winner, too!

The Robiskie comment was a joke, just knew he is from chagrin falls.

As for the roster, go to this site.

    Click football
Scroll down under the overall standing and you can see roster and stats (through the regular season)

I knew it was a joke..That roster doesn't show size. CF has decent size and just played a much smaller Manchester team. I was curious to see how big the Rider O-line was individually.
  • RedRiderPower
I listened to the game feed of Chagrins game against Manchester here http://highschoolsports.cleveland.com/game/score/783807/

To me Manchester wasn't even a threat at all to the Tigers going into this game. The Tigers came out and hit them in the mouth hard with the first three possessions and had a 20-0 lead with 4:40 left in the first quarter and then just played solid D all night holding Manchester to only 2 Td's in the 4th that was against the Tigers 2nd team.

Hard to get to good take only being able to listen to the game but believe that our Defense will do a lot better than Manchester was able to do. The Tigers spread the ball around a lot and won't be as predictable as Genoa was. As long as our DB's are able to hang with the Tigers receivers we should be in good shape and on our way to week #15

The Riders need to find more ways to get our play makers the ball this week and put some points on the board. This Chagrin defense seems to come at you hard on every play and will look to rattle our young QB and force him out of the pocket. That might just be a good key for the Riders if we roll Kyle out and give him more options down the field or allow him to tuck the ball and run.

I've been watching Kyle since the 7th grade and I'm telling ya that this kid has everything we need him to have if our O-line gives him the opportunities. Our coaches have done a good job with him so far but I'd like to see them give him more chances to get out of the pocket and make the big plays. Turn him lose and allow him to do what he does best... This is playoff football, time to bring out these horses and allow them to run, run run.!

Seems obvious you want to know if you will be bigger than us up front....My guess is yes. We have never been huge up front. www.scoutingohio.com has a drop down menu for the High School name. click on that for more personal info. They still have 2010 grads on there so disregard those. we avg maybe 240-250 up front on O line. Strong side DT is our RT Guard.. Reusser 6'1", 250. Nose is wrestler...aren't they all, 6'0" 190 maybe. real quick. same for our quick side DT who is our center. We most often are smaller than everyone we play up front....we are used to that.
