That's true enough. But, the talent pool does rise significantly over the next several years. That's what FWK is probably alluding to.
    Cheers.

It's also not a good Idea to judge a school's fan base on the posts of a few antagonists on a message board. "Hating" a school based on these few antagonists is the real Idiocy.
    Cheers.

Who says they are judging by posts? I'm sure many non Big Red fans have been to Big Red games to see the kind of behavior that goes on at the games.

No, it's not because of winning. I think many more would agree with me, that, the size of the fan base has more to do with it. Take a DVI school, that may have 2,000 people at a game on Friday night. Massillon, (Canton) McKinley and Steubenville probably have more "psycho" fans at each school than that. Look at Massillon for example. A home game at Paul Brown may average, what, 10,000 people, and about 1,500-2,000 are loudmouth, in your face freaks. LOL. It is just the beast of reality. Big fan base= More "stupid" fans. That DVI school, with 1,000 fans probably only has about 15 idiots. Now, who is "preceptive" worst fan base? Massillon would be, at no fault of the 8,000 GOOD fans. And the "bad" fans of these schools, seem to be more prominent on site's like this, which makes it hard to cheer for those schools. Again, I may be way off, but, it is just my opinion.

No, you are not way off. You present a plausible case.
Some people have a bad experience at a game and take it out on the whole fanbase. Smaller crowds present less problems. Also, the bigger the game, more outsiders come to see it, cause problems and the school takes the brunt of it. Incidents happen but I also suspect a large percent of those posted on these message boards never happened or were blown out of proportion; hard to prove or disprove.
Cheers and Happy Holidays to all.

    wroooooooong
winning makes you hate/be jealous/gun for whatever verb you want to add. teams that don't win bring no emotion from the opponents fan base. i say it's idiotic to not be able to figure that out.

I'm a steeler fan and I hate the Ravens and couldn't care less about the clowns. why? because the clowns are irrelevant and the Ravens win. It's an actual rivalry...

There's no wrong about it. Does winning help? Sure. But, you still have idiots as fans whether you are winning or not. It's idiotic to say that you don't have stupid fans unless your team is winning. Again, I don't think many are 'jealous' of a high school football team. MOST hate schools such as Big Red because of the fans. Not winning.

at the actual games in real life, i have never once seen any kind of incident where a Big Red fan or a fan of the other team was out of line, other than a couple 14 or 15 year old punks kicking mud down on to the sideline on the visitors side and a few Big Red moms jumped all over them and had them removed by police.

so, if your argument is about a message board, i don't totally disagree, but i prefer to speak about real life. all of these "stories" and legends blah blah blah. at massillon this year there was me, my daughters and 15,000 of my closest friends and no one got out of line in the end zone section even when it became a butt kicking... i began thinking im gonna maybe have to get my young daughters out of here soon (mainly because of the crap i read on forums) but real life proved that these message boards are nothing more than a way to pass the time or talk out of our .....

winning breeds contempt, hatred, jealousy, you name it. moreso than a few people on message boards (who are usually the most ignorant and loudest). doesn't really matter, but if you want reality, go to the games and you will see most of these urban legends never happened. if anything, i think the Big Red fans are waaaaaaay to quiet and reserved. The massillon and brooke games were exciting, other than that, the fans just sit on their hands.

See, that's where the fans on message boards play a big part of that. Take me for example, again, I could care less about Big Red football. Never been to one of their games, don't plan on it. I have no reason to. Now, I get on these message boards, and I see the stuff some of their fans post, and it could give me the whole perception that the Big Red fan base is nothing but a bunch of loud mouthed ratards.

I guess this discussion has gone full circle. I'll close by saying, I for one would never call a whole fan base loud mouth ratards based on a few on these message boards. Wait, maybe if I knew what a ratard was, I might. There is Ratatui,a rat that loved to cook; then there is the mousy kind of rat, or in West Virginia they say Rat now when they demand your attention.
Again, Merry Christma & Happy Holidays.

    Definition of ratard

I guess someone has never seen the movie "The Hangover" huh? LOL I'm quite aware of how you spell "retard" fella. Again, maybe you missed the part where I said it COULD give me that perception? Not that it DID give me that perception? Read a little closer next time guy. Nobody was putting down the mighty Big Red.

And Merry Christmas to you as well!

    or........... from the Urban Dictionary

means the same as the word retard but makes you sound stupid saying it.

Someone that is way cooler than a retard, not a retard.

Dumping a girl that is a lot cooler and and prettier for one who is less pretty and cool.

Retarded or Mentally Handicapped Rats, Mice or any animal belonging to the rodent family.

your a rEtard for not knowing how to spell this right

A cool person who is not a retard.

A somewhat derogatory adjective.I invented the word ratard in 2005.It is a combination of retard and rat-like qualities. It can refer to a person or a thing/object.In our house sometimes instead of saying something is a ratard we just say "Voo Voo!" in a stupid voice.

Thought I'd lighten this thread up a little

Steubenville at Poland, 2008. Was on Big Red side, left the game a dumber person than when I had arrived. For a town so big into football, they say the dumbest things regarding what is going on on the field.

You sure? Sounds like that only happens on message boards?

I don't know, ask the guy who I was standing by that thought there was no such thing as intentional grounding at the high school level.

Years ago when Steubenville had a local radio sports talk show, Coach Reno was asked if he would consider playing Cleveland St. Ignatius and he said yes. Well, they and The Red both have an open date for the first week in 2011. RRR
