Shadyside 2010

I hope GCC and Shadyside hook up for week 3. The win aside, I really enjoyed meeting Shadyside fans at the regional semis. Shadyside is a class program and will be a dangerous team in 2010. It would be a great game.

for us to keep the 5 home games and 5 away games in order we would have to play either or week 3 and week 10 home and away. grove city christian says game with them would have to be played there while ridgewood would come to shadyside for the first of a two year contract. wheeling central(always one year contract) is also scheduled to play in shadyside as we played them on the island the last two years. week 10, steubenvillle central also wants us to travel to steubenville with wheeling central being the other option at home. so as you can see we have to have one home and one away possibly ridgewood home with SCC away or GCC away with WCC home. all the above mentioned teams quality opponents. i can see why the decision is a tough one. as far as shadyside 2010 we do expect another decent team. as i posted before we have 16 juniors returning, a majority of which claimed all district honors.

Signing for a home game with Fayetteville Perry helps with our home-away situation. From a competetion perspective, I wouldn't mind playing six road games. From a revenue perspective, I am not sure its practical. shadyside cannot lose with any of its choices, I just hope it can get worked out so you play us in week three. I would think the players would want another shot at GCC as well.

speaking for quite a few of our boys, they consider GCC a friendly rivalry. as far as wanting another shot at GCC dont really think they particularly want a shot at anybody. these boys who will be seniors next year just enjoy the game. pressure will be on their shoulders to keep the playoff streak alive. i think all teams strive to keep 5 home 5 away game schedules(other than steubenville). as you said all teams being mentioned are all playoff calibar teams in their perspective states and should provide us the competition we will need to hopefully get us ready for the playoffs. we will know in the next few weeks as our AD wants the schedule in place early february.

That right there is why I want to have a yearly matchup with Shasdyside. The program has the proper persective. A friendly rivaly is perfect. I can't say GCC will ever have a team that causes a visceral hatred, a la Big Red/Massillon. The kids at our schools play their hearts out to win and then pray together after the game. That is what competetion should be about. If a suitable replace can be found for Dylan Kimble, Shadyside could very easily go 10-0/9-1 next year(8-2 if you play GCC :D)

I've rooted for the TIGERS & wish them nothing but luck this year.

yes replacing kimble will be a chore, not as a qb but as an athelete. did everything on the field well. we have other qbs who throw the ball well but are not as good at improvising. i also mispoke when i said we dont really shoot for anybody. wheeling central kinda boils our blood a little. as far as a visceral hatred(cant find that in the dictionary) not really sure. our players enjoy the prayer after the game. it puts everything in perpesctive. 10-0 or 9-1 are lofty expectations with the schedule we have. beallsville, monroe central, week 3 (GCC, ridgewood), barnesville, rosecrans, bridgeport and week 10 (Steubenville central or wheeling central). as you can see 6 of the afformentioned teams made the playoffs last year and are expecting another banner year 2010.

Visceral means an emotion so strong you feel it in your belly. Osu/Mich is that kind of game. Again, Big Red and Massillon have that kind of hatred for each other. Thanks for the great perspective. I will defend "my" teams, but until they ask me to kick the winning field goal or catch the winning touchdown pass, I can't take things that seriously.
I stand by my thoughts for 2010. I saw your team play and see what you have coming back. Shadyside will dangerous.

got the word last night, week 10 wheeling central at home. week 3 still open.
  • Squirmydog
GCC at our place. Let's talk to the football gods and make it happen. Rumors are we might be looking at a D1 team for week 5. Just rumors, but if that's true, it would have to be away. There is no way we have the facilities to accomodate a D1 fan base. But again, a rumor. There are certainly other programs beiing looked at as well. Sadly, the powers that be don't give me too many details. I can say this year is going be a lot of fun in R23. Whether we play or not, good luck Shadyside! Your program is what football is all about.

GCC is a viable option. them along with ridgewood and linsly are also on the week 3 list. maybe if the winds blow north and the river flows south and the stars are bright.... maybe just maybe....as far as 2010 same to you my friend. as far as R23, im sure we're on columbiana's to do list. should be a fun year.
  • bloozebrother
heard last night ridgewood out week three. the list is getting shorter.

I'm not expecting anything of Shadyside, I don't follow them. But I did see them play last year and they have the ability to do well. I also believe that they will be better this year than last. If they can keep it together all season, they will do fine.
  • bloozebrother
the only issue at hand is replacing kimble. we have a couple of qbs that can throw the ball but are not as good at knowing when to pull the ball down and improvise. wr(e.brown-all district, t. brown-all district, duda, liberatore) is solid. te(hudson-all district) and rb(sedinger-all district, marling) should be outstanding. both lines return(silverio-all district, duncan-all district, duvall, coen, hammond, mcpherson). as you can see, on paper, we look solid. hopefully it transfers to the field. visited the weight room last week. silverio looks like a monster (245 solid lbs) marling looks in better shape and sedinger is now around 190 lbs. looks like weight room is paying off.

Any final word on week 3?
  • bloozebrother
^^^^nope, not yet. week three still open on our end. AD said something about coach holenka wanted to wait for state coaches meeting in february before making final decision.
  • Squirmydog
GCC's week 5 was filled with a home game, so week 3 can be away. Linsly posted week 3 open today on OHSAA. A Shadyside/GCC matchup is imminent. I'm just sayin'
  • bloozebrother
you could be right. i know coach holenka doesnt want to play linsly just for the fact you never know what your going to get. they have kids from as far away as north carolina and their roster changes every year. GCC- shadyside could very well be close.

wheeling central is on our schedule, either week 3 or week 10. discussions with grove city christian week 3 ongoing. may play them at either west muskingum(john glenn) or zanesville's sulsberger field. if we cant agree with GCC on time or place wheeling central will move to week three and hopefully we can find another week 10.
  • Squirmydog
I also noticed Cambridge is away that week. Muskingum University is close by too.

Why a Neutral site rather than at Shadyside?
