In Dover and New Philadelphia's case these stadiums were built in 1936 as part of the WPA. Both are brick structures, which makes them stand out from many of the newer stadiums that have been built. -

From most I have seen around our area, it has been from private funding & fundraising efforts. -

Does private funding and fundraising efforts take care of the upkeep and maintenance? -

Good question. Does private funding and fundraising efforts take care of the upkeep and maintenance of natural grass stadiums? -

No, tax dollars. I have no idea the difference in cost, either. I'm more curious about the issue, than anything else. If it cost a lot more for maintenance and upkeep on a turf field, then I see it as a burden to the school and the tax payers, given the state of our current economy. I'm not trying to bring up a sour subject, but it is just one thing I never understood about things like this. And also... Is the money being equally spent on girl's sports? -

I have read articles that say the maintenance and upkeep on an artificial surface is substantially less than natural grass, and some have said that they are practically the same. There is no doubt that you can have more events during the school year on an artificial surface, which could allow school districts to collect more gates. If you are asking are they spending the same amount on the girls sports? Well they can play girls soccer on the football field, and girls are in the band. If the school has field hockey it can also be played there. Obviously the football team is going to require the greatest expense on its playing surface, as they also bring in the most money for the school of all the sports. For most schools, it is the only sport that actually makes money for the school and is a source of pride for the community, thus why locals will donate to help the upkeep of many stadiums in Ohio. -

Wow, you seem so concerned, but unwilling to do any real research for yourself!ernest_t_bass;542295 wrote:No, tax dollars. I have no idea the difference in cost, either. You do realize that some programs actually generate enough money(with private donations as well as in season revenue) to maintain their field turfs without tax dollars right? If you're really concerned, I'm sure you can submit it public records request with your local school district (if they have field turf) to find out how the purchase and up keep is financed. -

Good question that I don't have an answer for. Maybe the middle section is reserved for people who donated to the stadium or for parents of players or something and students are kept in the other sections? -
oberhausClip of Portsmouth's new stadium. I drive by it twice a week.

I remember seeing the old facade of Portsmouth stadium that was a pro stadium . The Detroit Lions emerged from your pro team . . Did they keep the old facade? It was very nice looking to me . I like old buildings ,it was very sharp . The new stadium looks very nice too . -

Does Bowsher and some of the other Toledo city schools have stadiums? Is Devilbis still a school? -
rmolin73Remember Whitmer is not part of the Toledo Public School system they are part of Washington Local School District. Bowsher, Rogers, Woodward and Waite have stadiums. Scott and Libbey used to have stadiums but Scotts was condemned and Libbey was closed. Devilbis is no longer a school.
-
karen lotzyep rmolin is right. If I heard correctly, I think they just started tearing down Devilbiss' football stadium to make room for construction on 475/75. Waite I think is the best of the Toledo Public fields but Rogers and Start might have made some improvements recently????

bigkahunaStart looks nice. The stands are in good shape on both sides and they have a really nice entrance way to go with the new school.
Karen, Springfield's new place is somewhat comparable to TCC as far as quality goes. It's typical of most cookie cutter stadiums now. Between the 40/45s, the last 4-5 rows are chair backs. They moved the scoreboard to the opposite end of the stadium (South Side). There is a nice locker room/concession stand on the SE side of the stadium strictly for the visitors. Finally, they have a weight room with a glass wall where the old concession stands/bathrooms used to be. There is a glass wall overlooking the stadium. It truly is gorgeous.
Whitmer kind of reminds me of Maumee with the giant cement grand stand. It just looks like they decided to expand with metal stands instead of tearing down and starting all over. I'm not going to lie, the cement is kind of eye sore. -
karen lotzCool. Will Springfield and Whitmer host second round playoff games?
-
Crimson and Gray HairI have to admit that at first I wasn't so sure, but the more I look at Harding Stadium the more I like it:
...but seriously, nice looking place. I'm excited to come and watch our boys play there and hopefully surprise so people!
