ROUND 1: CAMPBELL MEMORIAL (9-1) AT MARTINS FERRY (7-2)

  • reddevil90
Well i had the pleasure of seeing both teams Play! Martins Ferry is got a long standing tradition in the playoffs. They are a proud Community and Love there Purple Riders. They are very balanced on both sides. They look like they take the page form Campbell's playbook. They chew up the clock when in the lead. They have a good passing game. They have two wide recivers that are quick to get out in the open and when i seen them play they catch everything.

Campbell is old school Knapick Rozum Power running. There offence in the second half of the season can be compared to the great teams of the past. they are not the fastest bunch but they are strong and when in the open field will make you miss. Defensively we need big stops starting Friday. Wrap them up and take there legs out from them. I dont mean brake there legs. I seen some monster hits at struthers. Those hits where heard blocks away. We didn't receive them we gave them. That game was the most hard hitting game the devils have had in years. Make no mistake the Purple riders are very good. But they have yet to play any team like campbell as far as i know..

Good Luck Campbell, beat the Purple Riders

As we all should.. Dont take any team lightly. They beat the Columbus crusaders.. The Ohsaa dont recognize them thus the 7-2 record. But that team is always a very good team. If we get the defense to hit like they did with struthers but they have to wrap up and not give up on a play... if they do that we should win. we played a very good defense last week. probably the best defense we seen all year... I'm not worried about scoring. I'm worried about tackling.

Caturdayz thanks for the help on the thread. And good luck in the playoffs. bring it home...

Good luck red devils! This should be a great game. Has Campbell and martins ferry ever played? Turnovers and penalties will determine the outcome. Time to pick up the intensity! I am sure the kids won't be happy just to be there. Haven't won a playoff game in 20 years. Time to change that.

oldschool, here you go brother: Campbell and Martins Ferry have played 3 times.

    1930: Martins Ferry 13-2
    1935: Campbell 13-0
    1939: tied 0-0

Campbell is bigger and faster, take care of business Devils!
  • BigDean1
I agree. Campbell will have the size advantage and better speed. Martins Ferry will have the the home crowd behind them. All I could find on the Martins Ferry team was a pre-season preview article and a team photo. It would be nice to hear from some East Liverpool huddlers regarding what they think of Martins Ferry. Liverpool defeated Martins Ferry during the regular season in a game at East Liverpool. Campbell has to eliminate the turnovers and mental mistakes. Campbell fans, please get into your car or on a bus and take this trip down route 7 to support your Red Devils. It's not that long of a trip. And don't stay home because it might be a little chilly. You can wear an item called a coat to keep warm.

I have every confidence that Campbell will take care of business ------ best of luck!!

Campbell took on a lot of talented teams this year and that experience will pay dividends against Martins Ferry. Just bring your best defense and victory will be yours!

Cambell fans can find and read more info on Martins Ferry at ovathletics.com. That is where most of them are talking about this game.
    Invite them over here.

I'm picking the devils, at first i picked ferry, but after some research i'm going with the devils.
Ferry won't be able to stay with the speed of campbell. Especially after losing to EL..
  • Gypsy Rose Lee
Just curious. Those stating that Campbell has more speed. Have you seen Ferry play?
  • purplesage
Hi folks!!! Come join in the conversation @ www.ovathletics.com !!!!!! Here's a synopsis of what you'll hear over there... Martins Ferry will be outcoached, outplayed, is terrible in playoffs, can't pass, is too small and hasn't beat anyone of concern!!!!! Ought to make a Cambell fan feel all nice and fuzzy!!!! Oh yeah your the Red Devils we kinda did beat a team with the same name but they're only #3 in this region but they were slow and small too!!!!!!

I dont need to see them play. Its an educated guess. But since you say that, i'll correct myself after i watch some videos.
    Campbell wins 31-7.

Yes and campbell has more speed and that's a fact.. dont get upset please I'm stating facts. I live in wintersville my son plays on Indian creek 9th grade and also sometimes plays on the varsity when needed. So yes i have seen Martins ferry play this year ..

Ferry will go down in this one. They have a solid program, but this is a team that will come up short.

I'm not upset at all. Was just asking. In your original post you said (referring to Campbell Memorial) "they are not the fastest bunch". I haven't seen them play. I defer to your thoughts, yet they conflict from one post to another, unless of course you're saying Ferry is flat out slow. Where is Memorial's speed advantage? RB/QB/WR ?
  • oldschoolreddev
I'd like to hear about martins ferry's playoff history.

This is Campbell memorial's 8th playoff appearance. Our record is 6-7. We have won two regional championships, D-III region 9 in 1989, D-IV region 13 in 1990. We played ironton in D-III final losing 12-7. Lost in state semi's to loudonville in 1990. We lost last year to chagrin falls in first round of the D-IV playoffs.

I have seen Martins Ferry on tape. I was not that impressed by them especially losing to East Liverpool.

RB QB and WR. Look out for number 3

Salem played EL and Campbell and I was more impressed with Campbell's offense than I was with EL. I don't know what happened to the Potters in that game (maybe they were looking ahead to week 11?) but they are probably more capable than they showed in week 10. EL also struggled a bit with Struthers; Campbell put on a pretty good offensive show against them. Campbell's weak point may be their defense which has tended to occaisionaly give up points. This could be a high scoring shoot out, but I have to give the edge to Campbell especially if they play well on defense.
