Week 11: Salem Quakers (8-2) @ Sheridan Generals (10-0)

  • RedReign04
^^^ Are you serious.....? Strength of schedule will have no bearing on this game.
  • southbender12
no one is 10-0 by accident so obviously Sheridan is a very good team but they play a very easy schedule and that becomes a factor come playoff time...if for no other reason but the fact that their starters haven't played 4 quarters yet because they win 60-0 every week....Salem on the other hand has been in dog fights with 5 playoff teams and they know how to play with their backs up against the wall...i think they will prove a little bit more of a challenge then Crooksville and New Lexington (all due respect to those programs)...people can count the quakers out just like they did a year ago but I wouldn't be surprised to see some Sheridan fans eating their words this weekend!

    Go Salem
  • RedReign04
I won't argue your point that Salem has played a tougher schedule week in and out. Sheridan only had one game they had to get up for in Tri-Valley, DII Region 7 #7 seed, who also did not give Sheridan a game...final 42-14 and 429 yds on the ground for the Generals. Sheridan also did not lose to a DIV team...I know, I know its turned into a rivalry, they finished 8-2, and they're the #6 seed in Region 13 but they are still a DIV team and you got beat 21-0; just pointing out the facts. Sheridan players understand and know what it takes to play the caliber of teams found in the playoffs because we are usually there so the schedule does not become a factor "come playoff time." I can guarantee that Sheridan players and coaches are taking Salem very serious and will not overlook them. I also haven't said or seen any "Sheridan" poster that has said this is going to be a blowout so I don't know what words we will be eating.

Sheridan ability-wise would compare favorably with Hubbard , who thumped Salem. Saw the Lakeview game and the Bulldogs are probably a little better than Sheridan because of their skill people. Salem isn't great on D and both Hubbard & Lakeview had good run games against them. Toothman is the Salem run game and Sheridan will "spy" him. While Salem has two decent WRs, they aren't real big threats and should be covered. I expect Sheridan to dominate the LOS both ways and control the football. Sheridan is bigger & stronger on the lines than Hubbard or Lakeview. Their QB is a very good athlete as well. One of their better playoff teams. Sheridan is the pick.

DV- Ursuline > DI- John Marshall

    5-5 Cleveland John Marshall ????

    This John Marshall?

Why would you compare them to Ursaline? We all know they are a great football team. And you do not play them so I don't understand the comparison.

But back to the game. We are a sound good team. We don't get hyped, like most. We do our job and just keep on keeping on. The boys will be ready to play. As will yours I would hope.

Yes the place will be standing room only so if your fans are late. Hope they like to watch from the corners of the field. I have a feeling you will get a better feel for the way we play football down in our part of the state after ya come visit us Saturday night. We might even gain alil more respect then. It will be ELECTRIC and fun i will guarantee you that.

See ya Saturday night, I will be on the 50 watching the game. :D
  • RedReign04
Tell me you did not just try to compare Lakeview to Ursuline...lol
  • oh yeah!!
having played sheridan twice in the playoffs a few years (01/02, 03/04) back as a player i will say that they were the hardest hitting team and they never gave up! i still remember our coaching staff telling us don't understimate their size or lack of schedule these kids are like snow plow that will run you over! with that said if you are willing to match their physicallity then anything can happen!! is the same coach still at sheridan cause that man is a class act! best of luck to both teams

We brought about 2,500 or so fans to Granville last year, and that was a Friday. I assume we may do better this year since Saturday should work better for those making the trip.

Contesting the assertion that bigger division means a better team.
  • RedReign04
I understand what you were implying I just don't think Ursuline to John Marshall is the same as Lakeview to Salem...

Yes Coach Paul Culver is still there. He just won his 200th MVL league game. Record for our area and probably most in the state also i would say.

2,500 was that the whole town? Hehe just playing. That's great if you do have a good following. We manage to have a few people come out and watch us from time to time as well.
  • strongbad
If it comes down to coaching, I would never go against Paul Culver Jr. He's a legend (local anyways) for a reason, and it's nice to see his boys Paul III, and Chad on the sidelines as well. Can't wait to see the first hit between lads Troy Sweeney and Toothman...wow.

If it happens ..... gotta catch him first ... then again, Toothman loves to bowl the defender over..

Lakeview Lost to Howland D2 and Poland D3and could have won both of those games. Also they beat D3 Hubbard who is ranked high in D3.
  • Paladin
The D-III Poland game could have been won had they not thrown the INT in the Poland end zone to end the game. Poland they should have won. Howland they played well and had them on the ropes until the 4th qtr when Smith took over. Too much D-I college RB to contain all game long. Thats also why Howland won't go far in the D-II playoffs when a D-IV team has you on the ropes for most of the game. Lakeview did an excellent job on D-III playoff bound Hubbard & Salem. But Howland they weren't going to win.

Heard this before. :D You haven't seen film of Troy or any of our D yet i guess. We have seen Toothman. Hes good yes. But to be honest we have played a few like him this year. John Glenn's QB is about the same size and does the same things he does. Also last year Clay Cammron from TV was the same but just shorter. Both hit hard. But then again so do our boys. Its going to be a fun game.
  • RedReign04
Heagan from John Glenn is not even close to the same size as Toothman...he may be taller but he isn't carrying the same about of weight. Toothman is a bruiser playing QB...oh yeah and he's got an accurate, strong arm.
  • JRock211
But Heagan was all they had that night and he did have the Heart to try. I know hes skinnier. Either way. We will find out in a couple Days. When are tickets going on Sale? Today or Tomorrow?
  • oh yeah!!
redreign did you play ball in 04 for the generals?
  • RedReign04
oh yeah, I graduated in '04 so my senior season was in '03...the team that beat Dover and lost to CFNW 26-28.
  • QuakerOats
So we're playing between cornfields, 'eh. Do you clear the cows out of the way for the game, or how does that work? :)

Sounds like the Quaker faithful are going to be relegated to standing around the field with limited viewing ability unless something changes relative to seating. Then again, when our offense is marching up and down the field all night, it's not like we'll want to be sitting anyhow.

I don't know about down there, but I already got my ticket. It is a Sheridan Athletic Dept. one though, does the OHSAA only do tickets from round 2 on?
