2011 scedule for Steubenville Big Red
-
ThinthickbigredAnybody have the set dates and all the drops ?
What teams would some of you like to pick up? -
ThinthickbigredI definitly want 7 home games and I think all us Big Red people will agree with that. With Park gone . East Liverpool would be nice again., John Marshall maybe. Martins Ferry wont take us on so that is a dream. We might have to pick up a Cleveland city team or Columbus city team Carrollton is appealing to me on a home and away deal.Anybody from the Buckeye 8 but I know there aint no takers. I like how reno is playing a solid D-6 private school in week 10 instead of SCC Tonowanda is a good team and they play hard.Parkersburgh is a team Ive wanted for some time.

DoverCarrollton? The team Dover beat by 49? I realize your location makes it difficult but what about Tri Valley, Ashland,Perry, Lake, Canfield they are all good teams that you won't see again in the post season. I would personally love to see Big Red as our Annual season opener when the Carrolltons contract is up.

Well no kidding!! Every team in the state would LOVE to have 7 home games!Thinthickbigred;539554 wrote:I definitly want 7 home games and I think all us Big Red people will agree with that. Will Ursuline be on it?? -
FairwoodKingWe will definitely play Inkster next year, although it will be late in the season, probably week 9. It can't be week 10 because Michigan teams are in the playoffs then. Playing it late in the season is at the request of the Inkster coach.
We have been invited to play Gateway in Heinz Field, probably week 2. From a financial point of view, it is basically the same as a home game. I assume Big Red will accept the invitation.
We have a contract to play at Brooke week 3. I assume we will honor it.
Week 5 is home against Morgantown.
According to the Massillon websites, we are scheduled to play them in Harding Stadium week 7. The return trip to Massillon in 2012 is up in the air.
I believe we will play Ursuline at YSU in week 8.
I have no information to back this up, but I am going to predict that we host a Rally in Death Valley week 4. Our opponent will be better than Morgantown.
I am going to guess that we renew our contracts with St. Joe's and O'Hara and that we play them in weeks 6 and 10.
That leaves week 1. I don't know who we will play, but it will probably be on Thursday and be part of a double-header with Central. -
reddevil90I see 6 games home games... If you get more your lucky. But i seen 8 this year. when you getting 10????
-
FairwoodKingReno wants eight home games, although he would not count the game at Heinz as an away game because the money is so good. As he explained to us, if we play a dog at home that brings no fans, we still sell enough tickets to clear $20K. Even when we play at a place as big as Massillon, we only clear $1000 above expenses. Since we are in a position to play that many home games, we go for it.
-
FairwoodKingI hope it's true that Wheeling Park is off the schedule. They don't bring many fans, and in most years we don't get a large number of computer points. When we played at Park in 2009, it rained and even the Big Red people stayed home. Wheeling Island Stadium was empty. I don't think there is much interest from either end to continue this series.

You're not countiing week 1 that will definitely be a home game. And again, don't count the sugar game at Heinz. -

That's alot of info Fairwood. Better hope Reno doesn't find out about your post. He might yell and scream at you again. -

If Reno had his way, we wouldn't blog about anything. -
DthaneGlad to keep the UHS game going. I'd say no to John Marshall (would rather H/H with Wheeling Central). Orrville, correction, that's the school of the deaf and blind, lol. What about Orrville? Dover? Canton Central Catholic? St. Clairesville? Martin's Ferry would be ok also. EL OK, Salem OK. All have decent facilities. What about Alliance? What ever happened to the Warren Harding connection? If we do any Pittsburgh teams on Fridays, the West Side would be better if H/H, as no one really wants to drive through Pittsburgh on a Friday afternoon. West Allegheny? Mars (the Planets?) Moon? Most of them are in conferences and can only play early in the year. Lot's of banter, just for exercise. The schedule has worked for 25+ years, someone must have a pretty good idea of how to schedule.

Canton CC and East Liverpool dropped us, so they're out. Warren Harding signed a home-and-home contract with us and then backed out because they are going to be in a conference next year and would not be able to play us at home. That turned out to be a bad mistake on their part, because had they honored the first year of the contract, they would have played in Rally at Death Valley and would have taken home a nice paycheck.
We can't play more than one Pittsburgh team because of their WPIAL scheduling obligations. As it is, we will probably play Gateway at Heinz in our week 2 (their week 1). Martins Ferry would be a good choice, but apparently they don't want to play us. -
SykotykI assume the Gateway game would part of a Rally. Any word on who the other potential participants would be? I would assume the usually suspects. Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Thomas Jefferson, North Allegheny, McKeesport, Woodland Hills or even maybe Mount Lebanon, North Hills, Penn Hills, etc.
I would definitely make sure I was home for that. I've enjoyed the past two non-Death Valley rallies (I missed the Rally at Death Valley this year).

I think we have done the state of Ohio proud the last two years . Beating the top teams in Big school WPIAL Pennsylvania and the Top two teams in big school West Virginia this year . But we get ripped apart because we lose to a small college team in Ursulin and a true public school Big power in Massillon . Good job Steubenville. You make us proud -
ThinthickbigredTalking to WPIAL fans at both the events at Wheeling last year and Woodland Hills this year ,those people have a true dislike for Pittsburgh Central . funny stuff . and I mean from several other schools . They are the real deal for sure though
-
ThinthickbigredAkron Garfield is appealing to me. Or another public school out of Akron.
I nice confrence for me . A new Eastern Buckeye league would be
Steubenville
Brooke
East Liverpool
Martin Ferry
Wheeling Park -

What makes you believe Martins Ferry doesn't want to play you? Is it "Martins Ferry apparently doesn't want to play Big Red under Big Red's conditions"? Maybe their schedule is full for next season and there's no openings.FairwoodKing;540628 wrote:Canton CC and East Liverpool dropped us, so they're out.
