Week 11: Massillon Washington (7-3) at Toledo Whitmer (9-1)
-
LeonardoLast year, a 6-4* Canton McKinley team smacked Whitmer out of the playoffs on their home field. Can Massillon Washington repeat that?
-
coyotes22No, McK was 6-4 last year, when they played Whitmer.

This season is unfolding alot like last season for the Tigers, finishing 7-3, ending the reg sea, with a multiple td loss to rival McKinley, the community of Massillon somewhat down and doubtful of hope for the playoffs. Massillon went on a mini-run and found themselves tied at 17 with Cleveland Glenville midway through the 4th qt, in the state semi-final game. Massillon has undoubtably more talent than they did last year at the skill position, but where they "lack" is at the interior on both sides of the ball. Therin lies the problem. All season long, the running game has been a work in progress, (10 weeks is a little too long to have not found some answers), which in turn, hurts the more than capable passing game. On the other side of the ball our safetys are making way to many tackles, and when we DO hit a ballcarrier at or near the line of scrimmage, we seem to forget to wrap our arms, which is where the safetys enter the picture. At times there have been some questionable play calling. Our starting QB is a Sophomore with, I believe 7 starts to his credit. I could go on, but lets get right to it. The Tigers keep it close for 2 and a half quarters....But then.

Old RiderI was not impressed with Massilon's defense at all yesterday. Got gashed with big runs several times and the offensive/defensive fronts were manhandled by a better McK team.
What was with all the penalties? Players need to control their emotions better than that...both teams. -
skankI will say this, in seasons where Massillon has been beaten by McKinley, and qualified for the playoffs in the same season, they are 5-1 the week after the McKinley loss. Three of those seasons, 80,05 & 09, they actually redeemed themselves by beating McKinley in the rematch. Will that be the case this year? I guess that remains to be seen, it really doesn't look like it, but then again, it didn't look like it in 2005 either. Time will tell.

Bigred1995This is what I posted on another site as to why I think Massillon will win this game...
In general a very good NW Ohio team will, in most cases, be considered the underdog to an above average to average NE Ohio team.
A prime example would be last year, a #8 Canton team going to #1 Whitmer and beating them 34 - 13.
I have a feeling Whitmer's season's going to end this year much like it did last year, a highly ranked regional team going out in the first round!
Good luck Massillon! -

Thanks for the well wishes 95, Massillon has been able to put together some nice games this season vs Steubenville and Mentor, but has also been EXTREMLY inconsistant, with UGLY losses to WGH and McKinley, (I don't count Buchtel because it was 2 and a half months ago....though that was ugly also). IF....I said IF, Massillon can stay focused, avoid turnovers and take advantage of their scoring opportunities, (they had the ball I believe 4-6 times inside McK's 30 and came away with 0 pts.), then I believe they will be in it, YES, they will have to do all of that....JUST TO BE IN IT. Massillon kids always play tough, so I'm not so worried about that. -

So then it was their reputation that won regional championships in 01, 02, 05 & 09? I guess if only those other teams had known....Face it, as long as Massillon wins 40% of the regional championships, in any given decade, they're still a title contender. Sorry to disappoint ya'll.
Oh, sorry, I see now that you were talking about Massilon and NOT Massillon. -
