WEEK 9: CAMPBELL MEMORIAL ( 7-1 ) AT NEWTON FALLS ( 1-7 )
-
BigDean1Isn't it amazing how fast the regular season has gone by? It's week nine !!!! A victory for Campbell this Friday will give the Red Devils the AAC-Blue division championship outright. If Campbell wins it will be its first football conference championship since 1991. Wow !!! That was a long time ago. Of course, Campbell was an independent for more than a decade. So there was no conference championship to play for. Seniors, take your younger devil mates up to Newton Falls on Friday and take care of business.
Newton Falls has had a rough season due to injuries and some other issues I will not post here. This is a mismatch on paper. But Campbell must stay focused after an emotional victory over Girard. The Red Devils cannot have a letdown. They cannot look ahead to week 10. The Newton Falls game is just as important for playoff positioning as the previous 8 games. First things first. Beat Newton Falls on Friday night. -
sonnyblackWith all the racial slurs that our kids endured from alot of their fans, not just on the varsity level but at the lower levels too, I hope Campbell lays 50 on them!
-
cmhs_prideSonny come on now....are you trying to tell me that Campbell kids have to endure name calling during games???? Are you sure about that?? I mean from what all the fans of these schools tell me, we are just too quick to judge people and always looking for a fight. It's never because finally we get called one name too many. You're so sensitive. God.....Campbell people are always looking for a problem....... LAY 60 ON THE FALLS.
-
soupcitysoldierRUN IT UP!!!!! this is a rivalry game...we hate them they hate us...make them pay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
BigDean1Fellas, from Boardman, which is the easiest way to get to Newton Falls? I was there just once with sonnyblack and pride. And I can't remember how we got there.
As far as playoff positioning, just win the last two and everything should fall into place. BEAT FALLS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
lets_go_devilsEasiest way is to just take 680 or 11 towards akron and get off the exit for rt 534. Hang a right and just follow til you get to the high school. It's relatively easy to find.
-
OhioThe devils should get it done early.
-
Spread All DayI see Falls winning by 7. Gut feeling cant stray from it
-
reddevil90Spread your just jealous!! and guess what I'm gloating over it. Now spread all day back to Stutters we will get to you soon enough.... Falls will come out guns blazing. But we are just to pumped from last week to give a damn! Campbell by 42. And yes i meant to spell stutters!!! Ha Ha!
A lets go devils i want one of those jerseys!!!!!!!!!!!! lol -
soupcitysoldierspread all day your intelligence is shining through slowly but surely. must be that struthers education. please tell your coaching staff to get ready for the stacked i all day or the spread all day...no pun intended. or a lil of both . by the way i hope you guys win this week thatl just mean more computer points for us. by the way it must really suck that you guys cant win a conference championship...i know its been awhile for us, but thats mostly because you guys were pussy cats and kicked us out your league for 15 years. leave it to a pussy cat to take their ball and run when they cant beat you. pussy cat.
-
reddevil90Soupcity He does this to everyone.. I most of the time don't pay attention to him. Like last week he said campbell didn't have a good offensive line to compete with Girard. And our defensive line is not good. And picked Girard by 14 or 21. And he is the one that said Landon Smith was going to be to much for campbell already weak defense. LOL i just played a little with him here today. its all fun for me now! But we i guess if Joe E is correct jumped to 3rd and i didn't think we would. i guessed we would have stayed at 4th place. But it is not by much i can tell you that. its just a very small fraction of points. so I'm interested in seeing the official. if campbell wins out we could be in good position for number 2 in region 13. is that good or is that bad??? But i hope ITS TIME TO PLAY THE GAME IN WEEK 11 AT HOME!!!!!!
-
oldschoolreddevMathematically, we can move up. Realistically, this is probably where we end up if we win the last two games. I'll take it. Should be an interesting end to the season.

sooner1BigDean make a right on 534 and drive like 5 miles and thschool and stadium is on your right.

Thanks sooner1. As I gaze at maps, I see a few of different ways to get to route 534 from Boardman. Fellas, which is your best recommendation? I don't have a GPS or even a cell phone yet because I live like a caveman or neanderthal man. I don't want to risk getting lost and having to stop at the greenman's place for directions. -

Hey I gave you directions two days ago! LolBigDean1;524234 wrote:Thanks sooner1. As I gaze at maps, I see a few of different ways to get to route 534 from Boardman. But I agree with everyone else. Run it up and set that place ablaze. Leave NO DOUBT in anyones mind to whether or not you are one the valleys elite.
GO DEVILS -
BigDean1
Yes, you and five other people gave me directions !!! From my perspective, if the game is out of hand by halftime, rest some of those starters. There is no sense in risking key injuries just to run up the score. Focus fellas. NO LETDOWNS. BEAT NEWTON FALLS !!!!lets_go_devils;524240 wrote:Hey I gave you directions two days ago! Lol

GO DEVILS -
cmhs_prideBigdean......from Boardman go 224 to 11 North. Take 11 North to 80.......stay on 80 as it turns into 76 and continue on 76 until you get to Newton Falls exit.....rte 534. Make a right and go 5 miles until you run into the high school.
Home Playoff would be nice. Lets just beat this team this week.....hopefully rest our starters and move forward. First things first. -

Thanks pride. You are the second person who gave me that set of directions, so I'll use those. -
reddevil90Had a GPS but my daughters friends decided they wanted to use it and got it stolen. Or so they say. That thing got me to every game on time for 3 years. Ah well time to get a updated one.
Just got done watching the game on My valley sports.com games on demand. And i have to say Ja'les is one of the great backs in our great backfield history. But he sure does fumble a lot. He needs to hold that ball better. cause the playoffs are going to be very tough this year. I do understand that it happends to the best but he had been doing it all year. The coaches can only teach you so much . its up to you to get it fixed. With that said i don't expect a big turn out for the game. Why? last week should have brought out even the most hidden fans and it was great to hear the roar of the stadium. But come on did all the fans move away?? -
soupcitysoldierSC no. 3 in the polls...we still dont control our own destiny...but were looking good.
-
cmhs_prideReddevil90 they did not all move far away. Thats for sure. Those who no longer reside in campbell fall into several categories.
1. They didnt care for football before and they don't care now.
2. They moved within 5 or 10 miles of Campbell.....use to go to all the games.....but suddenly are part of a community which is better than Campbell. In other words, they forgot where they came from.
3. They were diehard devils, however they have children playing in their new communities and ofcourse cannot be faulted for supporting the team their kid plays for.
4. They are a former player(s) who feels somewhat shunned by the lack of acknowledgement of their accomplishments as players and teams of a rich football history. Example....why is it that we never invite a former team or one player for that matter to come in and talk to the kids? From any era? Another example, Why is it that we have only God Knows how many playoff appearances, conference titles, State Rankings, NFL players from many different eras.......yet there is no acknowledgement of that at the stadium? In talking to former players, they feel shunned by the unappreciative way they have been treated and you know what...I dont blame them at all. I mean did you really watch how the whole honoring of the 89' team was taken care of last year? You ever go to a Grid Iron meeting?? Bottom line, I can see why alot of them tell me...."I will never go back to that stadium to watch a game".
5. Finally, some just have a schedule that does not allow them to attend on Friday nights.
Bottom line is this.....for the Struthers game that stadium should be rockin....but you know what...it wont. At least not like it use to. It use to take me an hour to get home from Struthers after we won there. AN HOUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope it takes two hours next Friday.
Side Note, several Newton Falls players including their starting QB are back this week. But the internal problems unfortunately loom over that program. -
reddevil90You know what Pride your right!!! There is only the 89 team that has a web page. In my own mind that team was the one that set the bar high and has yet to be reached or even close to being reached. Oh hold on there was a team I'm sorry. The 90 team. even though they didn't get to the state game they got damn close. Yeah i seen that last year honoring last year! i understand. Why don't they add some recognition to the stadium. Why not some numbers and names. I cant believe that those who have given so much on that field has not been invited to speak about how it felt to go out and play on Friday night and how the stadium rocked. Wow your right i get it. I just didn't want to believe that we can only as fans remember what it was like and that none of today's players know nothing about the 90 team or the 1985 team that started it all. Its something that need to happen before we start to have teams that are 10-0 and nobody to cheer them on but there parents. One other thing I'm trying to do is now is get all the video i can of the teams from the 80's 90's and other videos that is still available from the knapik years and make a YouTube video! we need to let these players know we did not forget them and wont forget them in the future even if the politics choose to forget. We are campbell was a phrase you can here all over campbell on friday nights.
Oh well if there back like i said they Can bring Big Ben if they want. We are not going to be denied!!! -

I've got just about all of the games on dvds from the 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1999, including playoff games. I believe the only game I do not have is the 1990 Campbell-Struthers game, one which I wish I had. These are the coaches films made from the press box. I also have the two highlight films from the 1989 and 1990 seasons. Anyone who visited the old Mike's Place on 12th Street knows how much CMHS memorabilia was hanging off the walls. I remember stopping down at Mike's after every game during the 1989 season. That place was so packed it was hard to move. And I remember walking into the old weight room and seeing many pictures from games. I often wonder where all of that stuff disappeared to. I am not so sure any of us will see much recognition of teams from the past until younger people get seriously involved with the gridiron club and the alumni association. As far as the stadium goes, the only person recognized is the late John Knapick. The field is dedicated in his honor and his name is in bright lights on the scoreboard. First Street should be called John Knapick Drive. The stadium should be called John Knapick Stadium. Plaques, pictures and such of former coaches and players can be placed all over that stadium. Pennants listing the SVC, MVC and hopefully AAC championship teams should be there too. We've got one of the best smaller school stadiums in all of Ohio. It can be made even better than it is with some reflections of the history of the football program added to it. I was very disappointed at the turnout for the Girard game. That was the biggest game Campbell has played in many years. And I believe there were maybe 2,000 fans there, if that. Just a shame. The home side of the stadium has seating for 4,500 fans. At least half of those seats were empty. My guess is Girard brought 300 or so fans tops. A joke for such a big game for both teams.
Regarding the game this coming Friday, Campbell should not take Newton Falls lightly in any way, shape,or form. If indeed they are getting some of their injured players back this might be a more interesting game than many believe. FOCUS on Newton Falls. BEAT THEM !!! -
Gardens35(Cringe)....."the 1985 team that started it all"............my goodness, there was outstanding football being played in Campbell long before 1985.
