Yes, he could have taken the knee again then punted.. That would've been a poor choice of call... If he called it the way a CREEK FAN wanted we took the chance of being 4-2 and not making the playoffs like CREEK! You have absolutely no clue what your talking about! Would you have gave them the ball back with 40 ticks?????outdoorsman;505823 wrote:It is what it is. Poor choice of a call. Pathetic as I see it.
YOUR right IT is what it is!! EL tried to take the knee and the officials and Bruney wouldn't let the game end. So there for Bruney/MF suffered the consequences!LOL -
ThinthickbigredHere is what a high school official has told me . He said that at the end of a game if a team is trying to knee the ball down to kill the clock the official will notify the deffense not to be overzealous and try to decapitate the QB . He would flag you for that . At the same time if the offense is trying to kill the clock and the ref already notified the D to lay off he will not allow a fack knee and then throw the ball . A flag would come out as well because that would make the refs look bad if he tells the D to be cool and then the O pulls a stunt like that . In this case from the way I see it comunication to the ref that EL was trying to kill the clock was not done and at the same time the D was not told to lay off . I think the refs let this get away from them because if the D is overzealous when an Offense is killing the clock then flag them . If the Offens tries a fake knee then throws it flag them .

Potters87ksig489;504386 wrote:That play is illegal. When you are taking a knee, the referee tells the defense to back off so as for no one to get hurt. The defense is in effect...defenseless against a play such as this. The refs should have blown the play dead and thrown a flag.
The famous quote, " Better to be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt " fits this being called illegal. First East Liverpool was in the victory formation however they could not have ran out the clock completely. Martins Ferry had their lineman teeing off on the O-Line of East Liverpool and their linebackers and DB's were jumping over the pile trying to cause a fumble. So East Liverpool called a fake knee, the DB's were too busy jumping over the line to cover a wide open streaking East Liverpool Wideout TD! I for one thought it was a fantastic play call. Martins Ferry was out hit, out hustled, out played, and out coached all game long. You'll have that sometimes, good luck the rest of the season, I hope you win out, we could use the Secondary Points. Go Potters! -
outdoorsmanLMAO......without your joke of a last second TD the game was close.

It doesn't matter how close it was..... What matters is who won, who lost and who picked up a ton of computer points....LOL!!!!!!outdoorsman;506179 wrote:LMAO......without your joke of a last second TD the game was close. -
HEAVYDUTYOk I was there, on first and ten we notified the official of our pending knee, he informed the defense. Upon snapping the ball our center was planted on his butt and knocked back into our QB, the official throws a flag, stops the clock and confers, picks the flag up and waves it off, resets the clock and never restarts it until the ball is snapped again, this time the line backers dive over the top at our QB and Ferry calls time out. On the previous 2 plays the defense refused to cover our wide-out, faced with turning the ball over near midfield with 40 ticks on the clock up by 3, or throwing to an uncovered receiver and kicking off to them with a 9 or 10 point lead, there is not a coach in football who would not do what we did. To talk about classless just shows how much class you have, to insinuate something when you obviously did not witness it first hand again shows your class. AGAIN IF YOU WERE NOT THERE SHUT UP, and if you where there and dont understand football SHUT UP ALSO! If any further clarification is needed I will provide video of the events, and you can see the difference of how they defended the knee after the touchdown and interception!

outdoorsmanShow the video. Not to be a jerk, but that would be great to see and if the refs were so off base, then lets, let them have it.
You have to admit from the outside looking in, it seems out of line. Video please. -

Here's a thread with some Ferry people agreeing with the call.... http://www.ovathletics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7074 -
TiernanTypical classless play commonplace to many of the teams that hail from this region. When its HS football team is the only positive thing a town can hang its entire worthless existence on, shit like this happens. Surprised it wasn't The Big Red.

Little DannyWonder what Dr. Lou, East Liverpool's prodigal son, has to say about all this?
-
Y-Town SteelhoundIt's the defenses' job to stop the offense, if they can't they can't. It's called football. I see no problem with the call.

He would comment without seeing the video like he did for the ending of the LSU & Tenn game this past weekend. -
HEAVYDUTYWell below is the first play with 1:15 left in the game EL is content with running out the clock, and has informed the official of this. Notice the official throws the flag, what you dont see is, he waved off the penalty and then never restarted the clock.
-
HEAVYDUTYHere is play number 2, Martins Ferry calls timout after this play stopping the clock with 1:08 left in the game.
-
HEAVYDUTYNow the situation is 2nd down, Clock is stopped at 1:08. Martins Ferry has established they are not going to allow u to just down the ball without a fight, and have refused to cover our wideout. Only up by 3, and at most we can only run another 50 seconds off the clock. We did the only thing we could and that was make sure we leave the field 5-1 instead of 4-2. Great Call!!!!
-
HEAVYDUTYNow in this final clip you will see EL has put the game away and Martins Ferry actually allows us to down the ball, Lesson Learned I Think!

Mistake, clock should start on the ready. -
SonofanumpIn the second play, if the leaping LB would have landed on the QB, we would have had a major problem.
-
HEAVYDUTYNow seeing that can you blame the coach for doing what he did? I encourage you to go to the beginning of this thread and read the comments, the only one who lost credibility was them!
-
ManO'WarI could see this being an issue if the Potters were up 4 TD's or something, but come on...they were only up 3!
They should have been trying to get a first down and/or score.
Too bad for Ferry. -
RedBlackAttackCompletely understandable choice for EL. What I find most interesting is that, on the fake-knee, the MF linebacker dives over the line again. So, Ferry was still playing all-out. If Ferry is still blitzing, diving over the line, etc, why should EL stop playing? That is how kids get hurt.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what EL did considering how MF was reacting to the knees. -
CaturdayzAnyone else see the Patriots try to do the fake spike and think of this game?

SonofanumpCaturdayz;507738 wrote:Anyone else see the Patriots try to do the fake spike and think of this game?
No because we have two different sets of rule codes. -
ThinthickbigredEast Liverpool was in their right to do this . MF tried to kill the offensive players and EL would not have been able to just run out the clock . No problem with this at all . Did the teams shake hands after the game ? Was there bad blood after the game with the coaches or players or fans ? Just curious.
