Genoa vs Eastwood

  • Classyposter58
Well once again it all comes down to Genoa and Eastwood for the SLL. The Comets with a win will basically guarantee a 4th consecutive outright championship and another 10-0 season. Is this the year Eastwood finally breaks through? Thoughts?

Genoa is 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Suburban Lakes League
Eastwood is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the SLL

I like Genoa to be able to run through Eastwood's defense. However, this game is pretty much the only way Eastwood can make the playoffs, so desperate measures may be taken by Eastwood. Definately an edge.

    Genoa by 25

    Is Connor back to 100%?
  • birddog23
As far as I know Conner will be back at full strength. Now I know this doesnt mean much but he has 9 touchdowns since he came back from injury after week 2. Last year Genoa couldnt really stop him up the middle, but I am guessing it couldve been bc they were keying on Seifert and Rolf but whatever he did last year it worked.

Like all other games this will come down to who can run the ball and who can stop the run. I like for it to be closer than people think, and Eastwood will come out like their life is depending on this game.

    ^^^It kinda does

Genoa easily takes this. Eastwood is always overrated.

Eastwood needs this game like Lakota needed to beat Genoa in 07.. This'll be Eastwood's best game of the season where they pull out all the stops

Well this is a major game for the Eagles. I mean honestly the last time Eastwood won a big game was in 2007 against Genoa in the playoffs. Ever since then they've pulled a Notre Dame and blown it against every decent team they've played. The one thing that I like about Eastwood is they're getting physical again and that physicality is what won them 5 straight SLL's. I think this is a step in the right direction for the Eagles to catch up to the Comets but honestly I don't see it happening this year. I like Genoa by 2-3 touchdowns

Didnt Eastwood handle a 10-0 Galion in the playoffs last year? Thats a pretty big game I would think.

^^^I was just thinking the same thing...

I was on the fence about that game because Galion was awful last year. I mean really they basically barely beat 2-8 teams the entire season and nobody had Galion winning at all

I dont know how you can say a 10-0 team is awful? I mean yeah sure they struggled against some teams they probably shouldnt have but hell 10-0 is 10-0. And I also think a lot of people had Galion beating Eastwood bc of the whole Eastwood "sneaked" into the playoffs thing.

Eastwood has beaten quality teams many times over the past 3-4 seasons... In 07-08 they beat Oak Harbor (who had 3 all-ohio DL), Clyde, and split with Genoa. The last two seasons they have won Games like Galion, Clyde, and OH but haven't been able to get Genoa and I dont see them doing it this year... Genoa's OL and DL are dominant! Even in the Oak Harbor game this season (which was a hard fought football game) Genoa's OL was getting a 3-5 yard push on the OH DL... Shoulda been a lot of big plays but the lead backs struggled picking up the LB's who were filling holes. Going off what happened between OH and Eastwood, Genoa should be able to pound Eastwood on the ground as easy as Oak Harbor did but thats why we play the game!
  • birddog23
If Eastwood plays the way they did against OH then Genoa wins easily, but I have seen some very solid steps forward the past 2 weeks since.

Glad to hear it Birddog! Eastwood is a class program that folks in Genoa respect very much. I am hoping that Eastwood gives us every bit of a nail biter as was the two 07 games (hoping for results like 07' game one tho)! This Genoa team needs to get battle tested if they are gonna make any run in the playoffs at all.
  • birddog23
Those two '07 games were insane. Two of the best games Ive seen last couple of years.

birdddog when at anytime did connor go off on genoa. i felt as if they didnt give the ball enough, but he did nothing last year against genoa. I do think he will have a better game than last year bc eastwood doesnt have the seifert kid steeling touches from him but still connor wont reach a 100 yards. the genoa DL is just way to good big number 61 is having a monster year on D and number 50 has played limited D but when he is in he is a game changer

Lol well I hope you have but so has Genoa. Teams usually do improve as the season goes on

If i remember correctly Connor had 65 yards last year. He would have had much more if Eastwood would have stopped giving that marshmallow Seifert the ball, and stopped trying a double handoff to a lineman. If Rutherford isn't trying to be cute with his playcalling and just gives his best player the ball this might be a good game. Otherwise I see another blowout.

Will Eastwood kids be putting up "Genoa Sucks" and "Eastwood 35 Genoa 0" banners on Genoa's school again? lol

According the Sentinel-Tribune last year Conner had 82 yards on 16 carries and Seifert had 52 yards on 13 carries. So like I said earlier Genoa didnt do a real good job of stopping Conner up the middle. You can go back and watch the film and they didnt really have answer for him.

Bwcomet, I think those signs last year mightve been made by the Comet faithful to get the boys fired up a little. Well I guess it worked lol
  • birddog23
P.S. - Rutherford is not calling the offensive plays this year. Assistant coach Joe Wyant is.
  • comets082
ok birddog when you get ten carries in a blowout game with no meaning. that doesnt mean he had a good game the varsity was not out there the whole game. if my memory is correct you would of only had three points if we did put are jv against your varsity because there is no way rofl breaks free against our D so rethink what you say is a good game
