Week 5 Orrville (3-1) vs Mansfield Sr. (3-1)

OQBCFColts....Orrville had the great Coach Ernie Mello for so long down at the junior high. His teams always went 5-2 or better while teaching the game of life first then football. He LOVED coaching at that level and never wanted to move up to high school. I was his last team he coached before he retired, and was probably my favorite coach to ever play for.

BRFIn my candlelight ceremony tonight (and, btw, thank you for lighting the first one, O-ville QB), I lit one for my old pal, Coach Mello!
Turner's two INT's were big. He should have had two more, too! I will light a candle for him. -
RedRider1Defense allows 62 total years. 76 passing and minus 16 rushing. Another super outing.
maybe Lex's D wasnt so hot (Clear Fork scored 42 on them tonight)......it's our offense.
Real, real ugly. Tre was limping in the 1st qtr....but had another 32 carries. Great to see Davis, Monheim and Turner get carries. We had to have 200 rushing yds tonight.
Turnovers again killed us. What do we have now, 16 turnovers through 5 games?
We get WH this week, then it's time for Ashland, Madison, CF and Woo. We could lose 3 of those games if we don't get it together. -
OQBGood call BRF,

OQBWe simply can't keep turning the ball over. First off, why in the world are we throwing hailmary passes against an equally athletic team, it's not like we are blowing by them on every pass play. Another thing I did notice tonight, our offensive line looked extremely slow. Slow getting out of their stance, slow reacting to the defender, we couldn't get a sealed block on the edge if our life depended on it. Too many times Lichti has no chance if the defenders are in his face after he takes his drop.
I hope they run their butts off too for all of those stupid stupid stupid penalties!!! NO EXCUSES, it does not take an allstar player to line up correctly, or wait until the center snaps the ball. Did we have a new center tonight? I did notice that Groves was out of the game. -

Man, that's even older than me!
I can't say enough about how good the defense has been it is awesome and part of the reason that for the first time in a Longgggg time, with the bad start, I just KNEW that we would find a way to come back and take this victory! Something I want to share with you all: In my conversation with Coach Sly today, he said that week's 5-8 are the toughest part of the year to prepare for MENTALLY.....to keep the kid's up and prepare and not lose focus. I just thought that was interesting. So, if you happen to see a kid, be sure to give them a word of encouragement. You might not think that what you have to say matters but it all helps, it really does. -
OQBEspecially encourageu our sophomore QB. He is still learning and maturing, but he led us to a victory tonight even though things weren't going so well for us. I'm glad the coaches are sticking to him and not creating a QB controversy. Playing QB at Orrville is a big load to carry, get some praise for the good things but those same people who praise you can rip you a new one just as easily. Takes a strong kid to play that position here. Trust me....I know!

BRFBRF is not wild about having our "gimpy" feature running back carry the ball 32 times in a game like that. I worry about "wear and tear". Also, 6-17 passing doesn't cut it, especially, IMO, when many of those attempts should not have been made. But, we will take it and move on.
