Week 5 Orrville (3-1) vs Mansfield Sr. (3-1)
-
OQBHard to believe it's Nice win last week over a good Lexington football team. Still need to take care of the football if we want to win out. Defense is playing great and our offense is making strides with a very young QB who is still learning on the go.
What are your thoughts? -
wallykGotta go with Orrville in this one. Alot of reality checks in the OCC last night.
-
BRFIs this season going by quickly or is it just me thinking that way? Week 5 already! Go Riders!
-
Old RiderBRF...I would agree. This season seems to be moving very quickly!
Its nice coming back home for two weeks after a nice road win and (what SHOULD have been 2 road wins....copley). Our offense has to get better and we HAVE to protect the ball better.
I wouldn't mind seeing Davis and Mason in the backfield and let Tre catch the ball in space out of the slot position...he just runs too upright and dances too much out of the tailback position IMO. He has the size to overpower people but continues to try and wiggle and tip toe....JUST RUN!
Offensive play calling was questionable...3rd and 1 late in the game and we throw???? (Lichti gets sacked for a 9 yrd loss)....2 run plays will get a yard!
Lastly....can we stop running that silly WR slip screen where we throw the ball to Stu all the way across the field for a loss or 1 yard gain?? I would say lets turn the page in the playbook offensively, but I think if we turn the page....its blank!
...Still loving that RED RIDER defense though...keep it going! -
5knotsMy guess the 3rd and 1 was a chance to take a shot down field knowing we come back with 4th and 1 if we need to. I hope that was the plan anyway? I say get the 1st down and keep moving. I give Coach credit he stuck by QB and it payed off. he knows we need him to have confidence to win. Defense will keep us in every game we play. Offense will continue to improve....a lot of talent out there.

Ok, that first line cracked me up! And on the second line, I need to say on here "Kudos to the defense!". -
OQBHaha that screen we have been running it for years, the thing is, our wr's are not blockers they are fast athletes. That is why that play hardly ever works.

worked to perfection in Genoa game several times....Lex DBs just too fast...Galick and Bedow both great players and react very well....when you load the box like they were it is definitely a weapon we have to try. -

Yes that is exactly right 5knotsvery well put , that is why Triway did not play well against us. Their passing game consists of those screen passes and slants/outs. When you have really athletic DB's those plays hardly ever work, but if we would work our WR's at blocking a little bit more that play would work a little bit more.
The coaches like to call those screen plays if the team we are playing blitz a lot, so I'm sure that is why we are running it. We have a very fast athletic WR in Turner, and we have a very inexperienced young QB. What does that equal, a lot of blitzes to put pressure on the QB, and to stop our good running game, hence all those quick screen like passes to Turner. -
OQB
Yes very well put 5knots. That is why Triway did not play well against us, their passing game consists of those short slant/out passes and screens. We were faster and have good athletes on our defense that shut those plays down.5knots;488486 wrote:worked to perfection in Genoa game several times....Lex DBs just too fast...Galick and Bedow both great players and react very well....when you load the box like they were it is definitely a weapon we have to try.
I do know that the coaches like to call those screen plays when a team blitzes us a lot. For example, we have a very good running game and a very very young QB, what does that equal, crowd the box and blitz to stop the run and pressure the QB. That is why we have been running the quick pass/screen to Turner to try and let him make a guy miss and make a big play in the open field. -
RedRider1Forgot the graphic QB08.............
Need these next 2 to solidify top 4 in the region.
About the OCC....yea Wooster and Senior lost, but neither got embarrassed. Wooster really surprised me, and Senior held their own too.
Senior gave up 325 rushing yards...but it took 60 carries by Clear Fork to get it done. -
RedRider1By the way...did i read that Wally Woods got tossed in the Lex game? What happened? Does that mean he's out for the next 2 per OHSAA rules?
-
OQBSorry, RR1 I don't have those like you do....haha
-
Old RiderRR1...yes Wally got tossed..and I believe that is a 2 game suspension.
The slip screen is different than what we have been running...Stu scored on the slip screen and that IS the play we ran with Sam Miller with success in the Genoa game. Im talking about the the hitch pass which is a flat pass out to the wr. It looks like a screen but we use the other recievers as blockers rather than the O-line and its way outside the hash marks near the numbers/sidelines...thats the play that has not had success that I was referring to earlier.
Thats why we are all typing on Ohio Chatter and not calling the plays...LOL -

Yes we have I believe 5 different screens.
The RB slip screen the line blocks either left or right as the RB slips out of the backfield
Go screen (the one that works)Slot Wr is going out towards sideline, wtih other WR/TE blocking
Now screen (the one that doesn't work) the quick throw to the outside WR and the other WR blocks
WR middle screen (this one also works really well) Outside Wr runs into the middle catching the ball right behind the o-line who is setting up like a screen. -
BRFSince there isn't a poll on this thread, BRF will chime in with a WIN prediction for the "Mike Plant" DR thang! Go Riders!
-
5knotsOld Rider pretty sure the 80 yarder to Sam was the wideout screen where he is beyond the numbers.....we had success with others vs Genoa, but the biggie was that one.
-
ArrowGrad02Orrville should be able to handle Mansfield. Red Riders by 14.

5knotsHey Arrow Grad...be nice to have another showdown with Ashland this year week 7. Couldn't been any tougher game last year. We'll do our best to get there 6-1 and in good shape.

Especially since "Mike Plant" is voting for us the rest of the way! -
OQBWent to the "Night with Knight" tonight, what a great night it was. Coach Knight is a legendary coach and it was awesome to be in the same room as him.
-
5knotsI couldn't make it....good turnout?

Looking forward to it also. Everytime Ashland/Orrville play, it seems like an instant classic! Good Luck till then! -
OQB5knots, I was expecting full capacity crowd people standing along the walls, but I would say if they didn't have seats on the court the entire bleachers would've been full. It was a good night, sorry you missed it.

CCRollyOrrville has enough athletes and their defensive coach is smart enough to have a safety or two against the 5-wide spread. You guys should be able to play with them no problem. If the Wooster defensive coordinator had a clue he would've used at least one safety and thrown some junk defenses in there. Rush three, drop eight or whatever. Make Fuller run and punish him everytime he does. Enough about that though, you guys are right...Wooster surprised me also and had a very legit shot to win that game in the 4th quarter without their best player. The Ashland fans and teams arrogance is running wild, would be nice to see you guys knock them down a peg or two. But the game is at Ashland...so we know how that could go.
Orrville over Mansfield in this one, but it won't be a total blowout. Good luck the rest of the way Riders.
